Young Calorie Counters girls 4'11" - 5'2" what size are you? Aug 21 2009

I'm 5'2, about 158 lbs, and a size 12 or 14. This is down from 195 lbs and a size 18 at this time last year.

I'm thrilled by my progress, pretty happy with my body (especially because I know just how much worse it could be), and not at all wishing to be a size 0 or anything like that. Kind of making it up as I go along, not sure where I'll end up.

I'm pear-shaped, so I have shapely hips and a big behind. Haven't heard any complaints from anyone I care about.

Motivation Have you changed the way you think about food? Jul 03 2009

I'm fortunate in the sense that I haven't had many problems with linking food and emotions. I have noticed times where I ate because I was bored or depressed, but it wasn't anywhere near my biggest problem and I haven't seen evidence of it in quite some time.

The main way my thinking has changed relates to nutrition. Just the other day, I was going through the grocery store with my sister. We went through a soda/chip aisle, and I wasn't even tempted. Had the thought "I don't hate my body that much anymore." Same thought crossed my mind when we passed the ramen. I still enjoy soda and chips from time to time, as well as other things that are bad for me (like fast food - definitely a major cause of my previous weight), but a lot of things have lost their appeal. I'd rather have something healthier, more satisfying in more ways than one. Nothing is off limits in this lifestyle change, but what used to be regulars on my menu are rare treats now, if I even find them appealing. I feel a lot better about myself because of it.

I'm a pretty affectionate person, so touching in general is usually okay. Somewhat obvious exceptions are complete strangers and people I don't care for.

Some things bothered me a lot when I was heavier, and they've been bothering me less as I've lost weight. I'm fine when someone picks me up now - not as afraid of hurting them or getting comments about how heavy I am. I just got a new boyfriend, and he likes to touch my stomach. Makes me uncomfortable, but I'm getting used to it.

Of course, part of why I tense up when people touch areas like my stomach and sides is because I'm rather ticklish. T_T

Something that I've had a problem with my whole life is squeezing past seated people, like in the theater or lecture halls. I had to do that last fall when I was a good 20 pounds heavier, and I ended up getting a big bruise on one thigh from the fold-down desk top on the lecture hall seat. And my classmates were trying to take a test. -_-

Similarly, going through narrow spaces. Having to worry about not being able to go through or overestimating how much space there is and banging into something isn't fun.

When I was little, I had a couple of Sailor Moon wall hangings. My sister and I shared a room, and she had an autographed Garbage poster. With her being a decade older, I didn't learn to appreciate the band until later.

For a time, I had a few art prints. The Mona Lisa, Michelangelo's David, a piece by Picasso, and another statue by Michelangelo. Now I have a Fleetwood Mac poster from their Say You Will tour.

Shine - Anna Nalick

Oh the night, makes you a star
And it holds you, cold in its arms
You're the one to whom nobody verses "I love you",
Unless you say it first

So you lie there, holding your breath
And it's strange, how soon you forget
That you're like stars,
They only show up when it's dark,
'Cause they don't know their worth

And I think you need to stop following misery's lead
Shine away, shine away, shine away

Isn't it time you got over
How fragile you are?
We're all waiting
Waiting on your supernova
Cause that's who you are
And you've only,
Begun to shine

There are times when,
The poets and porn stars align
And, you won't know who to believe in,
Well that's a good time to be leaving

And the past knocks on your door
And throws stones at your window
At four in the morning
Well maybe, he thinks it's romantic
He's crazy
But you knew that before

And I think you need to stop following misery's lead
Shine away, shine away, shine away

Isn't it time you got over
How fragile you are?
We're all waiting
Waiting on your supernova
Cause that's who you are
And you've only,
Begun to shine

Yeah, you've only begun to shine

Won't you shine, shine, shine, shine over shadow (oh, oh)
Shine, shine, shine, shine over shadow (oh, oh)
Shine, shine, shine, shine over

And I think you need to stop following misery's lead
Shine away, shine away, shine away

Isn't it time you got over
How fragile you are?
We're all waiting
Waiting on your supernova
Cause that's who you are
And you've only,
Begun to shine

Yeah, you've only begun to shine

Yeah, you've only begun to shine

I just realized that my family's usual meal is a little more summery than the weather may call for.

This year, it was honey baked ham, macaroni salad, potato salad, green beans, deviled eggs, rolls, and peach pie. Dessert is never the same, though, just whatever my parents feel like making or buying. We used to do a veggie tray every year, and I think we did cranberry sauce, too, but our holidays have gotten smaller since my mother's health declined and my sister and I moved away from home.

First of all, dating isn't illegal. Sex could be, depending on what state you're in, but that apparently isn't in their plans, anyways.

The fact that they've known each other for years is a good sign, in my opinion. Shows that they have gotten along and could probably continue to do so. And you said yourself that she appears to be mature. An age gap at a young age and a long distance relationship (if that's what it is or will be) can make things harder, but it isn't impossible.

One of my friends started dating her boyfriend about four years ago. We were both freshmen in high school - her boyfriend was a senior. They got engaged on May 3 of this year, prom night. I was kinda worried when they first started dating, but it seems to be going pretty well so far.

I second the idea for you to go out and have fun while you can. If you try to settle down too young, you may resent your significant other for keeping you from experiencing things that other girls your age are/did.  I wouldn't necessarily say that you need to wait until 30.

Also, don't settle. I know people who have wanted a relationship so badly that they settled for the first person to come along. Not generally a good idea. It's better to be alone forever than stuck in a relationship with someone who makes you miserable simply because you want a relationship.

You sound like a lovely girl. I'm sure you'll have to beat the boys off with a stick soon enough. Wink

My mother has awful teeth, and several have fallen out over the years. She tried to get our dentist to just pull them all so she could get dentures. They'd look better, and she'll have to eventually, anyways. He refused and wants to preserve them for as long as possible. I'm guessing he just wants to get as much money as possible.

Young Calorie Counters Going home Nov 22 2008

Fortunately, my mother shouldn't mind if I add healthy things to the grocery list as long as I eat them. There will probably be so much temptation around, though. Eep!

My parents are supposedly eating healthier and keeping less junk food around the house, but I've heard that before. I'll just have to do my best to pay attention to what I'm eating, make sure I don't fall into old habits.

I kind of expect exercising to be the easy part. We have a treadmill, and I certainly won't mind walking around town after being away. Hello, Memory Lane. Since I've been out of the house and doing these things on my own, I feel less shy about it now. I think I can actually tell my parents I'm trying to lose weight when it was just kind of implied or a bit of a secret before. And hopefully they'll be supportive.

I'm taller than my sister. She's almost 30 and only 4'11".

If I could have a few inches of height shaved off, Liv Tyler (early in her career, think Empire Records or That Thing You Do!) would be my first choice. She is so amazingly gorgeous. I like being short, though. ^_^

I am 17, 5'2, and 190 lbs. I want to drop down to 150, hopefully by the time I go to college this coming fall. If not by then, then by next Thanksgiving. I chose 150 as my final goal (for now) because I have a large frame, and I'd probably start to look sickly if I dropped too far below that. I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I'd love to talk to someone with similar stats, but if anyone in any situation just wants to talk, feel free to send me a message. ^_^
