Weight Loss Muscle vs. Fat Dec 13 2007

Okay I have been working out for 10 weeks, have a calorie deficit of over 500 daily, and for 9 weeks, the scale  did not move, and now it went up 5 pounds.  I do not have a certain medical condition.  So I am DEFYING PHYSICS< so why don't YOU tell me the explanation.
Weight Loss I binge 1000 calories at a time. Please help me. Dec 11 2007

One of the biggest things I am trying to tackle is binging.  I am the type that will be hard core for months, then have 3 weeks of total chaos, seriously eating anything or anyone that gets in my way.  Its horrible.  I am going to therapy and this is one of the things I am trying to tackle.  One of the things that is helping, is make a list of all the things you like and dislike about yourself. It might take awhile to do the like list, but it will come to you.  If you have a lot of problems coming up with something, I can help you. Only read the dislike list once, and throw it away.  Most of the things on it are usually something you cannot change, or you are already working on.  Then , every morning get up and read the good list.  The things you like about yourself.  Right before a binge, get out your list.  Make yourself have to eat one healthy thing before you can start to binge, like a big bowl of salad, or an apple, and then read your list again.  Give it a try, its hard to harm yourself when you are reading good things about yourself everyday.

I have had several doctors try to push this surgery on me, telling me people like me come in all the time, and cannot lose weight no matter how much they exercise, or diet.  That the only way I would lose was the surgery!! I was SHOCKED.  I have had my blood checked, several times and I don't have anything out, everything is either in range or below normal where thats a good thing!  I don't have high blood pressure.  Basically i am a healthy overweight person.  I heard they push the surgery because they get a cut.  Like the meds they push.  I wasn't about to be cut open.  My cousin had the surgery and died a few months later.  I am 280, he was close to 600.  So to me, they shouldn't be pushing these surgeries on just anyone they "think" needs it! Some people believe everything their doctors say, so you can imagine why a lot of people choose the surgery.

It is hard to go back to those years, but I do remember the pressure to be skinny, even back 20 years ago.  And at that age, most little things are a crisis.  I can remember a pound being a HUGE deal because of the constant comparison amongst us girls.  So, even though, I have like a ton of weight to lose, and its not significant to me, I also remember that I am in a different scene.  Some get carried away, but like all forums, you will have that.  Peace.  Only love prevails.

Thanks for all the info!  Some of the things I had heard before, but some I had not, and it always helps to hear something new to keep a different focus other than the losing weight.......I guess I just feel like everything I try is always the same result - no weight loss.  I have been working out for 9 weeks, my clothes still fit the same, and I just started this calorie counting program, because after 8 months of WW and working out, I only lost 17 pounds.......and then South Beach and working out, I gained weight, and then went back to WW, working out harder, thinking it would be better, and gained 15 pounds in 9 weeks......Then I gave up for a few months, now I am back working out , 9th week, and started this eating program.  I really hate weighing on the scale, and I have to for this program, because it depresses me so much.  It puts all those horrible negatives in my head, that I am trying so hard to shut out.....It just sucks.  I am going to stick with it.  I have come this far working out, and have no cravings, as well as have cut out my table salt.  Something has got to give soon.  Thanks for the support and hearing me out.  I really really appreciate it.

I am cutting out things I love, too, and I did exactly what you did, cut the sugar and replace with Splenda, and hated it.  Then somone suggested I cut my two cups down to one cup, and have my coffee the way I like it!  Try using organic cane sugar, its much sweeter than regular sugar so you use less!  Also, I started drinking a carnation with 1% milk for breakfast, and its very filling.  It tastes like chocolate milk.  You can do all kinds of things with the carnation, like the vanilla, and add a banana and orange and make a very very filling smoothie.  And instead of juice, two clementines are sweet, delicious, and filling!

Hi, I have only been a member since Nov 29th, this year.  I stopped drinking a few months ago because I always ate like crap the day after I went out partying, not to mention the calories in drinking were killing me!!  So I am nervous about my work party this week, and how I will handle it.  Plus a birthday party at work this week, where they serve cake to everyone, and also, a 4hour training session tomorrow night, where they are feeding us pizza.  I have 3 possible sabotages this week, and am hoping I can be strong and just get through hell week.

Hi all!  Thanks for the warm welcome....Its great to have a place to talk to people, being that everyone I know, and love, is skinny, can eat anything they want, and just cannot understand the daily struggle with food...This site has opened my eyes to a bunch of things I could not have seen otherwise.  Like how much sodium I am eating, no wonder my rings barely fit sometimes!  For everyone struggling out there, this is the hardest time to get through, pizza parties, birthdays, christmas parties, cookies, candy....and I have three of those things this week.  I am struggling, with the first thing, a big 4 hour training session and they are feeding us pizza.  To not eat, its like I point myself out that I am different, and I know I shouldn't care, but I do.  Its embarrassing.  BUt I am going to do it, and bring my own food.  This will be really hard, because I LOVE pizza....but for me if I go there, it will start  a manic craving and lead to a whole week of bad eating......so for now...wish me strength.....:)  Thanks for listening!

Foods Avocados Nov 29 2007

Another healthy fat is coconut oil if you need a change completley, and fresh raw coconut.

As far as avocados:

Avacado Quesadillas

Ingredients:

  • About 8 corn tortillas
  • 1 can black beans
  • 1 ripe avacado
  • 1 lime
  • 6-8 oz Monterey jack cheese, shredded.

Steps:

Drain the juice off the beans and dump the beans into a mixing bowl. Slice avacado into bowl. Squeeze lime juice into the bowl. Add cheese, and mash all the ingredients together.

Smear the mixture onto tortillas to make quesadillas, and fry in oil until tortillas are crispy. Eat.

Instead of frying in oil, you can bake them and spray lightly with pam.
