I gotta say, arresting them is pretty extreme BUT they were WARNED and WARNED again before gradution ceremonies started. When I graduated, everyone was told numerous times to hold your applaus until the end. The reason being is that some people are video taping and their child's name comes along and you can't hear ANYTHING. It is ANNOYING and the people in the crowd should have more respect for other people than to act that way. The people who are cheering individually are being selfish and rude.

That means increasing calories and decreasing calories on alternate days. I, for instance, might eat the following (this is just an example, you should follow your OWN calories restrictions): 1,300 calories Monday 1,500 calories Tuesday 1,200 calories Wednesday 1,400 calories Thursday etc. I do this when my weight loss stalls to jumpstart my losing again. |

I think he breathed heavy into the microphone like that because he suffered from vocal paralysis a few years ago. Don't know for sure but I think that's what it is.
I HATED that guitar hero ad. I also hated David Cook after his kissed his guitar pick and flicked into the crowd like a moron. |

I have this problem as we are ALWAYS expected to go out to lunch with my inlaws after church on Sunday. We normally end up at whereever his dad likes to eat. Always order a salad (no eggs, no cheese, no bacon bits) at the beginning with dressing on the side. Dip the fork in the dressing and eat salad (as I learned on here) When I do get my entree, I always make sure I eat all vegetables first and I always always ask the waitress if the veggies are prepared in butter, if so, I ask her if they can be prepared differently. Never had one say no. I try to order grilled, broiled or sauteed fish when I do order my entree. If they don't have that I'll have something else that is somewhat lean. If I feel like I want something else, I eat it, but I watch my portions and sometimes thats really hard, you know, to tell yourself to stop but it makes me feel good afterward that I maintained self control at that point (something I struggle with). the only reason I do this is because I do not want this to be my cheat meal. I want to keep my cheat meal for normally Saturday night or Sunday night.

Thanks guys! It can happen for any of us. It just takes a little hard work and determination. I know some people are really strict about what they eat and I just couldn't do it that way. I'm a southern girl through and through and on race days (big race fan) you can bet you butt I'm gonna be drinking a beer while my husband is smoking a chicken or ribs or something else oh so tasty. (this week its smoked pork butt with home made vinegar based bbq sauce). I'll make some beans and some reduced fat potato salad and call it a day. I still count my calories too on my off days and I eat good that morning and eat okay at lunch so I can splurge with dinner and a couple Corona lights. yum yum |

This is a very good carrot cake recipe with about 215 cals per serving. You can always make an icing out of cream cheese (low fat) and a little powder sugar and vanilla. You are changing an awful lot of ingredients up there and if you don't mind your cake not coming out how you like the first time I say go for it. I experiment all the time and come up with different recipes to try. Well Lauren- Its my ttom too and I'm just struggling not to binge. Its hard, I know. I haven't but today's only the second day...LOL....what I do is try to keep fruit around. I slice up a BUNCH of apple slices and pre-measure tbsps of peanut butter. When I am craving, I eat that......or I brush my teeth LOL...... Oh but for me, (yes I know this is strange) I could crumble up a bunch of cool ranch doritos onto some vanilla full fat Breyers and be in heaven.... |

Thanks Feddie- I know I need to make myself exercise, but your right, it is easier said that done! I am going to make myself do it tomorrow. I feel better when I do it anyway. Maybe I'll even take my poochie for a walk this evening. There are so many people on here now. I am trying to catch up on these post but every time I start reading them I have to get off the computer! So I am just going to say, Way to go ladies! Oh. on the smoking question.......I did smoke almost 8 years. I quit about 7 months ago. I was fat regardless of smoking. Quitting smoking didn't make me gain weight, it made me get it in my head I want to be healthy and made me start making the effort to LOSE weight. I didn't gain ONE SINGLE POUND when I quit smoking. Its all a mental thing. Yeah, the cravings were there, so I chewed gum. I went through ALOT of gum. I also chewed the tops off my pens up and bit my fingernails off and yelled at my husband. I lived. A habit takes 21 days to break. I also felt better, my acid reflux got somewhat better, I stopped getting bronchitis, I quit feeling like I was going to suffocate sometimes etc. I'd NEVER pick up another cigarette again, EVER. Its not only the risk of cancer, which is a big risk, its the fact that you stink, it turns your teeth yellow, you can NEVER have fresh breath, your clothes stink, your car stinks, if you smoke inside, everything you own becomes nicotine stained and yellow tinged. Your health insurance premiums are higher, you life insurance is harder to get, it costs wayyyyyy to much money to buy a pack a day or more and on and on and on and on.....I'll get off my soapbox now..... Anyway, welcome to the new folks and I hope all of you guys are doing GREAT. I'm a work in progress and will keep going.... |

Hi Ladies- I haven't been on much (even to log calories..blehh) lately because I've taken on an extra workload for a girl in the office on maternity leave. I'm so behind. I gotta question-----a personal one. PMS....I have it bad. I realllllllllllly struggle to exercise because the cramping is so bad and the bleeding is so heavy. I've only exercised one day this week and its Thursday. I went over on my cals by 80 last night because we ate pizza because I was just tooooo run down to cook and told hubs to stop and get what he wanted. Is anyone else in this boat? How do you stop it? I can't go back on bc because hubs and I hope to get pregnant in the next year (when we both get down to a healtier weight). I struggle so terribly for about a week every single month. I don't know if it is hampering my weight loss or not since I've lost about 20 lbs since Jan 1. but I feel like it is.
Any advice?

I hate fish too but wanted to start eating it just like you did. Right now I am at 1 time per week. There are only 2 of us. A really good recipe I use is: 2 tilapia fillet (they really are mild and not at all fishy tasting) 1/2 tbsp brown sugar 1/2 tbsp olive oil 2 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp. lemon pepper Mix brown sugar, olive oil and lemon juice together. Marinate the fish for 15 minutes in the fridge. Sprinkle fish with lemon pepper and put on a broiler pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Set your oven on broil and broil the fish about 6 minutes on the middle rack in the oven (the thicker your fillets, the more you'll have to broil them). Take them out and enjoy. We love to eat this with a salad and baked potato. It's delicious.

The surgery isn't THAT bad if you do have it. I was up and around in about 3 or 4 days and back to work in a week. The bad part was no exercising for 6 weeks but you can walk and things like that. Just nothing straining.

Before I had my gallbladder removed I would have pain from eating all sorts of things but mainly from just eating when I shouldn't be eating. I could eat something one day and be fine but eat it the next day and be in horrible pain. The pain would travel up my belly, into my shoulder blades and into my chest and arm. It felt like a heart attack. I made tooo many expensive trips to the ER because I was scared to death I was having a heart attack before I was diagnosed with gall bladder disease. Always, always check with your doc. Gall bladders can rupture just like an appendix can. Please make sure that you are keeping your MD up to date on your condition. |

Hi Elecia I had my gall bladder removed about 8 months ago. Its not too bad. I stayed in the hospital one night. The pain that night was bad because of the gas in your abdomen where they inflate your abdomen to do the surgery. Its very painful but can be controlled by the pain meds. Don't hesitate to tell the nurse when the first bit of discomfort sets in because it doesn't take long to get terribly worse. When they tell you to get up and walk so the pain goes away, listen to them. Walking also helps to prevent any blood clots that might form. I would say get up and walk for atleast a few minutes every hour. I was intubated and that caused my throat to be sore for a week or two. They gave me throat numbing spray for that. Before my surgery, I was taken into a prep room and given an IV, the last thing I remember was my preacher being in the room praying with my family for the doctor to have wisdom and guidance during the surgery. I was loopy after about 15 minutes. I was completely out after about 25 minutes. I remember waking up hurting a bit in the recovery room, got another shot in my IV and was out again for a couple hours. They do 4 small incisions 2 about 1" long and 2 less that a 1/4" long. I went home the next day and the incisions are sore, they must be kept covered for as long as the doctors tell you to keep them covered. The day I got home, my husband was there with me but he went back to work the next day, so he missed 2 days. I missed one week of work. You'll be told not to do ANY lifting for atleast 6 weeks after your surgery. Listen to that, if you do lift, your muscles are so torn in your abdomen at that point that you can cause yourself to get a hiatal hernia. If you do get a hernia, that is more surgery. NO EXERCISE. My doc stressed that to me. No swimming, no lifting, no running, jogging or fast walking etc. I was off of the pain meds and just taking ibprofen after the first week of surgery. You are NOT allowed to drive for 1 week after surgery. You will have to have someone that can take you where you need to go. I had a follow up appt. at the end of the first week to check my incisions and to make sure I was doing okay. Six weeks later I was good to go! I have to say the worst part of the whole thing was figuring out what I could still eat afterward. Maybe TMI but anything greasy (at all) would go straight through me. I was freakin paranoid to go out to eat anywhere because of the need to be near my bathroom. I still have trouble with eating certain things, like too much fiber etc. I am still learning what I can and cannot eat. A plus is if it eat way to much, it goes right through me. That has made it easier not to totally stuff myself when I go out to eat or anything else. I cannot have fried foods, greasy foods, super spicy stuff, etc. I hope it all goes well for you and you'll be amazed that the miserable pain that you've been having in your back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and sides will no longer be there. It was amazing for me! I had forgotten how good life could be when you don't hurt so much

***You know, that's one of the reasons I look forward to being thin: I think people treat you with less respect when you're a big woman*** I totally agree. I've been the skinny chick before and its so much easier. enna---that totally sucks. I hope that she has a crappy vaca too. She stinks. jpetty---sometimes people are cruel and don't even realize it. I think that maybe they have their own character flaws that they need to deal with. Ladies, the flu is going around and I contracted it. I am clearing up now but was miserable Sat-wednesday. I hated it. I didn't eat healthy when I ate and didn't eat what I should have been eating. I ate whatever hubby brought home (cheeseburgers and fries). I don't guess it helps that I am PMS'n somethin fierce and crave sweet and carb rich foods. I got back on track with exercising today and eating right. I'll be just under my calorie goal of 1,400 for the day. I hope the rest of you are doing well. |

Ohhh....last night we had Chicken Soft Tacos, home made of course I cut up chicken tenders and cook with cooking spray, mix low sodium taco seasoning in the pan Put on low carb, low fat tortillas (about 80 cals each) and sprinkle with 2% shredded chedder cheese. I use reduced fat sour cream and eat about 1/2 a tbsp of it on my taco. I saute onions, peppers and jalepenos in a little olive oil and voila....a quick easy dinner with not too many calories. |

Thanks guys. I swear sometimes it makes me feel crazy to think they way I do! I did eat my lasagna last night and boy oh boy it was good. The cottage cheese makes it a bit runny but it still tasted great and I love the large curd cottage cheese in it. LOL Ally I do the same thing with the Lean Cuisines. I eat them religiously for lunch so that I can account for every single calorie I ingest! My hubby makes fun of me for that! I have a stock pile of them in my freezer! I guess it will take time to adjust.......it just needs to hurry up! Kim- I struggle with my cal intake too. Like for instance, just now, breakfast for me was 2 egg whites and a banana and my snack was some strawberries. Well, I was still hungry so I ate a handful of nuts. We all know how many calories you have to log when you log nuts so it drives me.....well......nuts! I know they are good fats but still..... My husband is dieting with me fortunately but what he does is eats something not so good for him at work and then calls me because he feels guilty about eating a 1,000,000 calorie snickers or reese cups and tells me. Aaargghhh....I don't want to hear it. I crave it too!!!! Hi Amri----I don't live in Ohio...I'm in SC. |

Thanks for the welcome ennazus! Oh and happy birthday jackattack! I love cake too.....yummmmmmm I posted this on the lounge but not response....tell me what you think gotta question. I just want to see if anyone else feels this way sometimes. I have a problem with the way I think about food (duh or I wouldn't be chubby in the first place). Now my problem is reversed. I seem to have a hard time accepting the fact that you can still eat the same foods as you used to but just healthier versions of it AND it still tastes the same. Like tonight, I am going to make lasagna that averages out to 374 calories per serving using fat free cheese, cottage cheese replacement for ricotta etc. I'll eat this with a salad and small piece of garlic bread for a total of about 550 calories for dinner. BUT in my head, while I am eating I'll think, there's NO freaking WAY this is healthy for you....etc.....even though I know the calorie count, the fat grams, sodium, etc. I'm good all day, at breakfast and at lunch with what I eat, it's just dinner where these thoughts sneak up on me. I can't do the 6 meals a day suggestion either because since I had my gall bladder removed, if i eat when I am not hungry, I go straight to the bathroom. I have to eat small breakfasts and lunches because of that too. I can't be in the bathroom all day at work. I've tried it. Anyway...... Even though I've logged it in already and I know I am under 50% for carbs for the day and under my goal fat intake for the day, I'll still have these thoughts and it makes for a stressful eating time and makes me not enjoy my dessert before bed (a 100 calorie slim a bear ice cream). Am I crazy? Does anyone else think like this? I know, KNOW its unhealthy to think like this. |

Ohhh....I wanna join. I want to lose about 80lbs total. I have a good bit left to go. Won't know the actual number until tomorrow (my weigh in day). I don't go to the gym but I do walk on the treadmill....I dropped a drawer full of clothes on my foot on Sunday so i haven't walked this week because it hurts to wear a shoe that touches the top of my foot. I hope to be back on the treadmill in the morning. I do good about staying between 1,200 and 1,400 calories everyday and fortunately my husband is doing this with me so I have someone IRL that I can gripe to as well. |

I might have PCOS. I don't know for sure and need to schedule another appt with the gyno. I do have ovarian cysts for sure but the pain that I was association with PCOS I think was my gallbladder (I don't have it anymore). I haven't had any pain and my period has been regular every month since I had my gb removed. I think I might have been misdiagnosed and now it has screwed chances of changing insurance without a prexisting condition. I have lost about 17 lbs since Christmas (losing quickly because I'm heavier) and am getting stable at 1.5-2 lbs a week now. Diet and exercise. I think PCOS sometimes is tossed out too quickly (as with me) because there is no actual test for it. It is just the elimation of other problems. IDK. I was also on Metformin. I was to darn paranoid to take it because I enjoy the occasional beer or tweo and you can't drink AT ALL on it. |

Hi Kyle! I'm kinda new here too....a month or so I guess. It was so hard to get through the first 2 weeks of counting calories but once I made it through that two weeks, I got into the groove of being able to pick out what I can eat already knowing what calories were in it. The big thing was planning ahead for my meals. I just wanted to say welcome! |
