Hi all and welcome to the newecommers. You will find us all helpful, fun and prone to rant once in a while. We love having you here. (now if I can just remember everyones names )

Rochelle, god bless you. You keep us all in stiches. That is so funny about running into your ex.  I shudder to think if that would happen to me. Of course he's been married 2 more times and has 2 more children that he didn't support in  any way shape or form, but who cares.  Also, your other Avatar was soooo cute, but this one serves a purpose.

Maybe we all take a hint from Cheryl (mamafred), and her pants.  Maybe we could pick an item of clothing with fond memories and use that as a goal to lose weight.  I have already done this and it seems to be helping me. Just a thought, let me know what you think.

I did fantastic at the Japanese Steakhouse, (yes Liz, I think it is an oxymoron) I ordered the steak stir fry, it came with a broth type soup and lettuce and ginger dressing.  Well, I left more than half the rice(white not fried) and brought home half the steak and ate all the veggies and drank green tea.

I seem to be getting enough water during the week, but not on the weekends, so that's my goal for next weekend. Excercise is coming along, finally, I went Saturday and just walked on the treadmill for 45 minutes, no alterations and Sunday I went back and did  full body weight training and 50 situps on the exercise ball.  So that's going the way I want it to for a change.

Liz they do the cake thing here to and its too small an office not to participate, so what I do is take a piece, take 2 small bites and throw it away when no one is looking.

Betty, I'm not sure what to tell you not losing. You seem to be doing the right things. and I think you should get the prize for walking in the cold (hubby too).  I see many people doing the same thing in Michigan, and give them  and you so much credit.  I don't like the cold. I'll keep thinking about it and try to come up with something.

 Take care all

Theresa

Nana, I know you won't be back till Wednesday, but thanks so much for the update. I am very happy that things are going to turn out ok, and stop thinking about those what ifs, it will drive you crazy. You and Terry are in my thoughts and I wish you both the best.

Well, I think I'm much better today and will attempt some excercise tomorrow. Nothing too tough, just something to get back into the swing of things. I'll see how that goes and take it from there.

Betty, I've stopped the leaving something on my plate challenge because....drum roll please... I believe I've learned my portioning because of doing this. While I was sick, I slept mostley and didn't make it over 1200 calories for about 3 days straight. (silly me, I always filled in my calories, lest I forget)

I gained a lb, but I'm not unhappy with that. I'll lose it next week, I hope..

Great post koalared, geez, I'm still grinning. Cheryl, congrat on the loss, still waiting for that day, but great for you. Take care all. Theresa

Hi to all the new folks, and boy am I glad to be back, I've been sick with a nasty cold since last Friday and have been sleeping a whole lot. Betty, Liz and Mamafred, thanks so much for your good wishes. Ro, AN OLD LADY'S COAT, PLEASE. I'm with Betty, you're a new woman, stop thinking old or else. LOL P.S. Great Job on losing that 25.6 lbs.

Well, the good thing about sleeping, is you don't eat too much and I stayed well under my 1400 calories for the last 4 or 5 days. Didn't leave much on my plate, cuz I didn't eat very much. As of today, I'm back up to my water drinking goal. Though, no exercise, something comes up that I can't go, its just so disheartening. I still have the remenants of sickness, but I'm going to try for tomorrow and basically start where I left off.... at the beginning.

In reading the articles that people have posted, I have found some really informative stuff. Thanks bunches.

Anybody heard from nanamoss? I read about her son having a spinal injury from a car accident in her journal?

Carla, too cool for you... 2lbs is a motivating, isn't it? Well, that's all for now. I'm usually a morning writer. I'll yap at you all soon. Theresa

Heres the chick stew recipe, from the Food Network, Giada DeLarentice, the only thing I did different was used boneless chicken breast cut into bite size pieces and used french cut green beans instead of the Kidney beans.  Hope you enjoy.

Chicken Stew

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 stalks celery, cut into bite-size pieces
1 carrot, peeled, cut into bite-size pieces
1 small onion, chopped
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can chopped tomatoes
1 (14-ounce) can low-salt chicken broth
1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, torn into pieces
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
2 chicken breast with ribs (about 1 1/2 pounds total)
1 (15-ounce) can organic kidney beans, drained (rinsed if not organic)

Serving suggestion: crusty bread

Heat the oil in a heavy 5 1/2-quart saucepan over medium heat. Add the celery, carrot, and onion. Saute the vegetables until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Stir in the tomatoes with their juices, chicken broth, basil, tomato paste, bay leaf, and thyme. Add the chicken breasts; press to submerge.

Bring the cooking liquid to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer gently uncovered until the chicken is almost cooked through, turning the chicken breasts over and stirring the mixture occasionally, about 25 minutes. Using tongs, transfer the chicken breasts to a work surface and cool for 5 minutes. Discard the bay leaf. Add the kidney beans to the pot and simmer until the liquid has reduced into a stew consistency, about 10 minutes.

Discard the skin and bones from the chicken breasts. Shred or cut the chicken into bite- size pieces. Return the chicken meat to the stew. Bring the stew just to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

Ladle the stew into serving bowls and serve with the bread.

Hi all, I know I don't have time for another website and thanks for posting that. I'm doing pretty darn good. I did the scale thing today and I finally lost! l'm down to 184, that 6 lbs total and I believe its the gym that helped. I tried interval training as suggest by the excercise portion of this website and golly I like it. I did forty minutes on the treadmill last night alternating 3 minutes at speed 3 and 2 minutes speed 3.5 all at a 4 % incline. I can see this is going to work for me although I have to remember to do other things too, I've been neglecting my morning work out, just can seem to get up early enogh. I can do better on my H2O intake, I'm almost reaching my goal, but haven't hit it in couple days. I'm also doing pretty good at leaving something on my plate. I'm really aware of doing that and Betty thank you for the suggestion.

I haven't forgot about posting that chicken stew recipe, I just haven't had time. I write here a lot from work, and lately I've been too busy to check. I'll shoot for this weekend.

Hi to all the newcomers, you will find this too be a great place although Gardensue who started this thread, hasn't posted anything here since the begining.

Take care all and let's all make conscience decisions next week to lose, lose, lose.

take care, Theresa

Betty, Nana, Ro and all..... what a group we are, it's so much fun reading all these posts.  Well, I didn't leave anything on plate last night, but it was because it was a small portion of left over chicken stew. I have to give you all this recipe, it was fantastic, healthy and  has no carbohydrates in it and its from Giada Delaurentis from the Food Network... Can you tell I'm a Daigo? LOL  I will put it up either today or tomorrow as I'm at work and don't have it.

Made it to the gym, but couldn't do any cardio because I have some swelling in my right foot from God know what. So I did 45 minutes of weight training and will get the cardio done tonite hopefully.

Hasta, Welcome back, I did miss you.

Yap at you all later after the gym...

Theresa

Hi all and here's to a better week, I'm sure!

Carla, I'm so jealous. I love animals of all kinds and can't have any because of where I live.

Della, we are going to do this week, I have a good feeling and my husband, who cooks way better than I do is out of town for the week.  So that means simplicity for me. who likes cooking for one. I plan to do the gym a little every day to work up my intensity.  We'll see how that goes, good intentions you know. LOL

I didn't quite drink enough water yesteday, boo hoo, but I'm really aware of it today and want to do better.

I was able to follow Bettys suggeston and leave something on my plate for dinner last night. We had braised beef brisket with roasted potatoes and carrots. I only had 2 ounces of meat and 1 small potato instead of 2. I think that she had a great idea to work on portion control.

I love all the recipes showing up, although I haven't had a chance to check out all recipes.com website yet.  Probably some time this week.

Any one that is new to this thread, you can ask questions if you don't know how to do something.  I know if did some manuevering when I first started. So ask away.

Take care

Theresa

Hi all and welcome to all the new contributors, this is getting to be a busy place, but the way I look at it, the more the merrier. Its really nice to have you all here.

yea! I made it to the gym yesterday and spent an hour on the treadmill. It was not intense at all, just trying to get back into the swing. Intesity comes later.

Carla, you sound like you have a good plan, the only thing I would suggest is to eat something before you go to anything like that.

Here is my first recipe for a "Baked Monte Christo Sandwich" that I got out of Womans' Day Magazine. Its my substitute for grilled sandwiches which I love.

4 servings

8 slices whole wheat bread 4 slices cheese (one that melts) 24 slices deli ham 2 egg whites 1/2 cup fat free milk

Preheat the oven to 450. Beat egg whites and milk in a shallow bowl. Put the sandwiches together and dip in the egg mixtures and put on a baking sheet spray with cooking spray. Bake for 6 minutes or until golden brown, then turn over and bake for 5 more minutes.

Stats: 250 calories, 6g fat (sat 3g) Sodium 1230, carb 27g, fiber 2g, sugars 5g and protein 20 g.

I had this yesterday with a bowl of vegtable soup and it worked nicely with my calorie counting. Enjoy, and more to come.

Gosh, I've had a busy week this week, and haven't been here in a bit, and look at all the new contributors.  I think we have something wonderful.  As always if you would like to ad me to your friends I would love to have you and welcome to all.

As I said, I've be really busy this week, back am back on track now.  I didn't lose any this week, but I didn't gain either, so that good.  I haven't been to the gym all week, but that ends tomorrow. I also have plenty of time to "catch up" as my husband, an attorney, has a trial out town next week and anything I eat will be up to me, not to mention plenty of time to exercise at home and the gym.  I think I will turn my phone on vibrate too. LOL

I would like to get in on the recipes thing.  I've been collecting recipes since I got married 10 years ago and started keeping them in a a big 4 inch binder with plastic sheet protectors. But only started the low cal stuff this last year. I'll sift thru what I have and post it when I get a chance.

Welcome again all newcomers and us not too oldies too.

Theresa

Welcome to our groups machelleg444, you will find us full of fun, advice, rants of own and just down right good people, although so you know, we have a few guys floating around here too. I too had a hysterectomy and gainedabout 25 of the 43 I'm trying to lose.

I drink 20 oz bottles of water and usually about 3 a day, acording to your info, I should be drinking 5 Wow Wee!!! (I'll have to buy more TP LOL).  And that info from the article Betty is good too.  It gives me a guideline on how often to change up, before that, I just figured if the exercise got too easy, that was a good sign to me that something needed to change.

I'm hearing good news from lots of people in our group.  That is such great news especially from MJ, that's your first loss isn't it?   Way to go all!

I use 8th Continent Soy Milk for my cereal and I drink a 6 oz glass after a cardio workout instead of an expensive protein drink.

Welcome to our group lam7, I'm sure you will enjoy it here, this is a great bunch of people and very supportive and you will probably get a laugh or two when you least expect it.

Hey Nana and Revins GREAT GOING Keep up the good work!

Just a suggestion, if you don't have the protein drinks available, Try Soy Milk, I use it because I'm lactose intolerant and they have made great stride to make it taste very good. I drink a 6 oz glass when I come home from the gym.

Hi all and welcome abner,

I too only weigh myself once a week on Fridays after the usual bathroom routine. I picked Fridays cuz I can be faithful to my lifestyle change thru the week, but sometimes slip on the weekend. That's my theory and it works for me.

Hey, I've be going to the gym routinely, and doing different cardios like the treadmill and the eliptical. I'm still working up to a longer time and more resistence, but things are going well so far. It seems to be working, I lost one pound this week. Yea!

Great article Trish, thanks for posting it.

I also, started a new afghan, one for my niece who is due with a little boy in the end of Feb. Its about 1/3 done.

Take care all

Hi Maryanne,

And welcome to our group, if there is anything we can do for you, don't hesitate to ask. Sounds like you are off to a good start. This website has many tools to choose from, so make the best of it with those you feel will help.   Welcome again.

Saturday, I was shopping and being the Sale Nut that I am, I'm always looking for deals. I found this shirt that I absolutely fell in love with (and was on sale) but I could only find it in XL and I wear a 1X.  I bought it anyway and put it on a hanger in front of my mirror.  I decided that this will be my inspiration. To fit in that shirt and I'm going to do it.

MJ

As you know I belong to a gym, and haven't put it to very good use until now. I think that what you have at home should do the trick, but if it guidance you need than the gym is the place to go.  I go to Bally and they have several classes, from yoga, to kick boxing to stationary bike class (my hubby's favorite). My point is that if you feel that will help you GO FOR IT! just be wary of commiting to a long term obligation until you're are sure that's what you want to do.

Happy New all!

Take care,

Theresa

Hi all!

Hey, we all made thru the Holidays and whether we fell down or stayed upright or somewhere in the middle, its a new year so lets put it all behind us and keep on trying.   That's what I plan to do, with no regrets for anything.

MJ just think of how motivated you will be WHEN you do lose.  I was just like you, geez, I've had and paid for a gym membership for 3 1/2 years.  I went gun-ho when I first started, but didn't lose anything after 5 months and blamed it all on the gym and stopped going.  Fact was I was eating and drinking what ever I wanted to and it turned out to be a wash.  Now I've started eating better and started back at the gym and because I finally saw that scale stay under 190 lbs (my start weight) for over 3 weeks, it really helped me to get going back to the gym, and honestly, I look forward to it and only hate it minorly.  So maybe if you gave it a good try and saw some loss, it would help you out.

I hope this helps and keep us up to date cuz we care!

Betty and Nana thanks for the compliment!  Tapas is so versitile, anything goes..

Take care everyone,

Theresa

Hi Betty,

A Tapas is Spanish for "small plates" or appetizer portions, so instead of having a great big meal with way too much food all at once, we made several small plates and stretched it out over a 2 hour time period. That way everyone has a chance to digest and no one walks away with that bloated full feeling. It's a big thing here in Michigan and there are many restaurants that serve this kind of food with sometimes up to 40 choices some being as simple as an olive assortment to Ahi Tuna minced with veggies and olive oil. As always, there a good choices and not so good choices, but eating a resturant like this is easy to stay in line. The following is a the website for one of our favorite restaurants called Vicente. Their menu should give you a better idea of somethings that are offered. They also off full meal portions, but I have never tried those.

It's back to the gym today, Yea! I feel better about going and I know this will help in my effort to lose. I did gain 2 lbs over the holidays, no regrets though. I had a good time, and wouldn't change a thing.

My parties still aren't over though, I'm one of those people who have a birthday on Dec 27, and becuz growing up, it always seemed to be a forgotten day, my husband always makes it special for me. New years shouldn't be too bad, we always stay home, cook a nice dinner at home, and watch an old movie and have champagne at midnight.

Then it will be all over until next year. Yippe!

Happy New Year to all!

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays! I finally finished that afghan I was crocheting and my mother-in-law just loved it. All that work is so worth that kind of appreciation. And that means I was able to get my butt to the gym. Started with 10 minutes eliptical to warm up and walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes, just as a first day thing. I'm going to work up to alternating the eliptical and the treadmill along with 20 minutes of strength traing every other day. Thats my goal and I hoping writing it down will help.

I had to go after last nights party. We had it our house and everything we made was low fat, but we had many dishes because we did a Tappas dinner. I only ate small portions, but when I filled out my calories for yesterday, geez louise, it was over 2700. So I'm going to be correcting today and tomorrow and so far I've done ok today. I just have to get thru the party tonight, but I see what I could do better and will just have to do it.

How is everyone else coping with the holidays?

Take Care,

Theresa
