Wow dramaqun! Sounds like you had some killer motivation in order to push through pneumonia AND start p90x!

I've got yoga x tonight. I haven't done this program yet. All I know is that I took a yoga class in college, and it was borderline torture. I'm going to try my best to stay motivated through the entire dvd and not give up, despite my previous feelings towards yoga.

epfever1- I have a pull-up bar and resistance bands. When it comes to pull-ups, I can't do them yet either, so I use the bands wrapped around my pull-up bar and do a modified move which is shown in the workout. I opted for the resistance bands because free weights do cost a little more. Good luck starting the program!

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone :)

dramaqun- I can't believe you didn't have a painful start with p90x! That probably made starting into it so much easier :)

jamison-I use my resistance bands for the pull-up moves. I use a middle weight resistance and wrap it around my chin-up bar until I get strong enough. Try the modified move on your knee that is shown in the chest and back video, I think it will really help build up to full pull-ups.

Hello all. I just started p90x this past Friday. I cannot explain how sore I was the entire weekend. My boyfriend and I (he started the progam too) could barely move. It was pretty pathetic considering I'm 22 and he's 23 and we both were pretty athletic throughout high school and college.

Today I did the chest and back and I wanted to get some feedback from you ladies. My wrists hurt pretty bad while I'm doing the push-ups, not to mention I can only do 2 or 3 in good form. Did anyone else face wrist issues? And just as a motivator, how long did it take you all to be able to do a substantial number of push-ups?

Thanks so much!

If you have access to a pool, try to start swimming laps. Swimming doesn't put strain on any joints and, for me, it was always the best way to slim down. I especially saw this in my legs because running and weight training just build my leg muscle instead of slimming them down the way I wanted.

I've also got heart related problems in the family. My dad runs like a maniac(i'm talking 2 hours a day. He's run the Boston, New York, Chicago and other marathons..and he's quite severely asthmatic. go figure)

I've started to run(through a jogging class) And I can do about 2 miles in a bit less than 20 minutes. Much farther of a distance than that right now isn't something I can do with ease, or speed.

It definitely is all about working up to distance and pace. Start out with what's doable for you.

Thanks tiegurl! I get back to school this friday, and classes start the 26th. I'm hoping those few weeks getting settled and catching up with friends doesn't throw me back off the wagon..

Alright, after being MIA for a bit then not really participating I am back on track! It seems like a lot of people are falling into the same pattern of jumping the wagon but are still getting back on like I am.

My successes since joining: I have been really making sure that I am actually hungry before I eat something. This has greatly decreased my unnecessary calories throughout the day and especially at night. I've pretty much completely cut out the junk food. These changes have caused a 5 pound weight loss over the past 2 weeks or so. :)

My new goals are as follows:

Stay under 1400 calories during the week, with some leniency on weekends.

Start training so that I am able to keep up in my jogging and conditioning class that starts on August 26.(It'll consist of running for about 30 minutes two mornings a week)

Keep up my running so I am going at least 2 more days outside of the class

Get back in the pool at least 2 days a week, then I am planning on joining the club swim team at my college which meets for an intense practice between 2 and 4 days a week. A big goal is going to be sticking with the team cause practices are quite difficult.

And of course, stop being so hard on myself! Like most women I'm so critical of the way I look. I think once i get back into daily exercise this self-consciousness will disappear. Working out makes me feel good about myself, as well as making me feel a lot healthier.

I am moving back up to school into a new apartment on Friday so If i seem a bit scarce its because i'm getting everything together. I'm thinking i'll be ok, so i'm not planning on going MIA again :)

Oh i've been a flake about counting and posting here. I have, however, managed to lose about 4 pounds or so. I'm surprised i've lost it, cause I haven't been working out at all...I think its the fact that I've been really good about not snacking out of boredom.

Hey all, I definitely fell off the wagon the end of last week as well as the weekend. I moved out of my apartment this past weekend so the last 10 days have been hectic for me.

I really need to get back on the wagon, cause I was doing so well!! Being home seems to be harder for me because I don't have a gym at my disposal like I do when I am back at school. I am going to re-evaluate my goals for the next two weeks until I move back to school.

peera- Congratulations! Even if now isn't when you expected, thats still great news :)

vicki- I've also come across a lot of trouble with my drinks. I think that is what caused my weight gain to begin with because all of a sudden my calories increased quite a bit every weekend(college student, what can I say) I've cut back a lot more recently, and when I do have a few I make sure not to go overboard if I don't have a calorie deficit that covers it. The days I am a little bad I just make sure to be super good the next day so I don't lose any ground.

I wasn't particularly good yesterday with my food choices( a bit high on both calories and fat) along with not working out. I did make it to the gym today though, for an hour and a half. I feel pretty good about my exercising and yesterday isn't a big deal, but I definitely have noticed that when I have a bad day like that I feel more guilty about it. A few weeks ago I would have told myself that it didn't matter..even if it was 2 or three unhealthy days. Now its harder for me to let that slide by which is decreasing those days quite a bit. :)

I guess I'm a compulsive weigher myself. I don't actually have a scale in my apartment, but I always weigh myself after a workout at the gym.

When I'm home however, we have a scale and I find that weighing myself every day sometimes discourages me more than anything. I figure weighing myself every couple of days is a lot better than every day, for me anyway.

Then I always have to keep in mind that I'm probably gaining muscle at a similar rate that I am losing fat, so the pounds don't quickly drop off.

My week so far has been really good. I've been staying under my calorie goals, and worked out an hour each day. :)

I'm back for hopefully another two weeks of being good. I really enjoyed the previous thread and feel like it helped me stay on track.

I was away for the weekend and did surprisingly well considering my options. Not to say that I stayed under my calorie limits, but I definitely could have done so much more damage.

for my consistency plan, I am trying to make my goal of losing around 12 pounds by the time school starts up for me in august(the 26th) I am looking back on how I have felt the past 7 months as my motivation to keep on track, as well as looking forward to fit into ALL of my shorts and pants that fit perfectly less than 10 months ago. My motivation to be more active stems from those reasons, as well as getting my body healthy. My family has some history of health related problems, so I am going to get a jump start to prevent that now.

For short term goals, I might give myself a little treat if i've done particularly well during a week or two week period. momof2funykds, I like your ideas of manicures, pedicures clothes, and things like that. I usually don't treat myself that often to those, so I think it would be pretty good motivation.

I'm definitely joining this group! I'm 5'6" at about 138 looking to get back down to 126(ish) I've been wanting to lose about 15 pounds or so since Christmas, but just haven't been able to keep myself on track to do so.

I have, however, been fairly good lately with watching what I eat as well as going to the gym. I'm down maybe 4 pounds, depending on when I weigh myself. My weight has always fluctuated quite a lot depending on the day.

My biggest motivation lately has been the fact that a lot of my shorts and pants are not fitting very well and i'm determined not to go up another size. I try to plan out certain days to go to the gym and leave myself post-it notes as motivational reminders.

anyone have a really affective work out for getting rid of the lower belly pudge, as well as thinning out the thighs? I've been working on an eliptical and a stationary bike, but not long enough or consistent enough to see results.

Welcome Jessica. I have the same night time habit as you do! Its been tough to break, but I'm getting there as I'm sure you can do the same. I've also had trouble being consistent in counting my calories, but i've found this group to be pretty helpful on feeling more obligated to stick to your plan.

Thanks for the encouragement inshapemommy, I think it really helps to have that. As for activity motivation, I find it very difficult as well. Lately i've just been telling myself that if I get out there and be active I will feel better about myself and eventually enjoy working out(that's my reasoning anyway)

Another strategy of mine is writing it down somewhere, I'm a big fan of leaving myself post-it notes telling myself to get moving!

So my week last week was not as good as I know that it can be. I slipped up at the end of the week and the weekend. Weekends are particularly difficult for me because my boyfriend comes to visit me.

This week I am determined to get to the gym tomorrow and wednesday for an hour at least. I am leaving early on thursday to go to the beach with some friends and I want to look good in my bikini this weekend. I know it will be tough food wise with 4th of july and all, but I am going to try my best to make good decisions.

I realize that losing these 10 pounds is hard for me because I absolutely love food, I am not full of motivation to work out, and the fact that my boyfriend tells me I'm perfect and thinks i'm crazy for wanting to lose weight. I'm starting to really crack down on myself and limit the amount and types of food that will throw me off track.

Health & Support Period period period. Where are you? Jun 26 2008

I went through the exact same problem. I am your height, and also weighed about 125 my freshman year. I worked out on a regular basis, and my college campus consists of mountains...literally. My period would come every 3 months sometimes, every other month, definitely not on a regular basis. I also went the the gynecologist and got the same results of being perfectly fine.

After losing about 8 pounds one year, then gaining 15 the next, mine was finally regular my second semester of sophmore year, without the aid of birth control.  I am however on it now, because when I would get my period, I would physically get sick from the severity of my cramps. fun fun.

It will eventually become regular. Just a note, my gyno told me that if after a three month time span if I did not get my period that I should go back to see her. So if it's going that long i'd make another appointment, just in case.

So after realizing I ate way too much for dinner, and the fact that less than half of my shorts still fit the right way, I stopped making excuses for not working out today.

I ran nearly a mile and a half around my college campus, and hit an elliptical machine for 25 minutes.

I've been telling myself that I would lose weight since right around Christmas time, but have not been sucessful. I may have finally got it into my head that longing for the shape I used to be won't do me any good. Neither will trying to convince myself that I can eat as much as I used to(especially since I used to swim for an hour every day of the week, and 2 hours on the weekend)

Supersized, in order to make that change of not snacking out of boredom I'm just not going to buy junky food at the grocery store anymore. And making sure I log my calories will show just how badly i've been eating lately, and will aid me in a healthier meal routine so I can actually start losing weight.

I'd like to join! I think if I have some involvement with other members I will be more likely to stick to my goals:

Get to the gym/work out at least 4 times during the week(got two days down so far)

Log my meals to keep track

Stop snacking out of boredom! That is definitely my weakness.

Make better choices if I go out to eat over the weekend with my boyfriend.
