| Foods | going to an indian restaurant for dinner.. | Apr 14 2009 07:29 (UTC) |

yea tandoori chicken would be best... im not sure they can make requests w/ oil etc. I went to an indian buffet yesterday and all i ate were the chicken dishes. I just tried to eat as little of the curry as possible. I also filled up on fruit and salad at the buffet. They have some healthy daals (lentils and bean curries) that would be good but def. not my idea of "delicious" indian food. |

yea that's easily 1500 calories at least. The meat is about 900 calories, an 8 inch sub will be at least 400 calories, and finally the cheese will probably add 200 calories at least. Total of appox ~ 1500 calories. There's a supermarket prevalent in upstate NY that sells subs and has nutritional facts for everything they sell. That's what I used to estimate. Just either go to the Sub Shop link or better estimate, individually added the items (salami, cheese, bread, etc). Here you go:

i guess i misunderstood. I thought u meant u were RUNNING 2.5 miles fast meaning like 1.5 mph to 4 mph not that u were running YOUR 2.5 miles because i putting in 4 mph for 15 minutes only gives about 80. If you are "jogging" at a 4 mph pace that equals wakling on that first site (go all the way to the bottom. Jogging is subjective because I walk at a 4mph like the site says so u should see exactly how much ur burning by putting accurate numbers. |

Like the first person said, the information is misleading, but is ultimately true. Breakdown of carbs can occur at a greater rate so when you're running and exerting yourself hard these are the stores your body is going to tap into first. Walking, however, needs not much energy and doesn't need energy as quickly and therefore will tap into your fat stores. But also, a calorie is a calorie. You'll just lose more fat while walking (but have to walk for longer for the same amount of calories). Its basically a choice/preference for what you are looking for. Speaking of HIIT (high intensity interval training) as its ultimately called when you run hard, walk, run hard, walk, etc, does not burn more calories while yo do the actual exercise, but boosts your metabolism better than any other cardio and helps burn more calories after your workouts. Plus it feel so damn satisfying after you finish your set.
Also, 270 calories for a 15 minute mile seems really realy high. I did a search and found a couple sites that both say u lose 80 calories in that time which sounds right. You should look into that. Maybe you're calculator is unrealiable. Can you post up a link. Even CC only says about 110. |

| Weight Loss | Is anyone using activity to manage occasional overeating? | Apr 10 2009 03:48 (UTC) |

yea that's fine. that's what a lot of people do including myself. Usually its the day after or something though because you should be eating after any workout. I do this when I find myself eating too much as in your case or when i go out and drink a lot. |

| Foods | going to Applebee's tonight - any suggestions??? | Apr 09 2009 23:24 (UTC) |

it seems like u already know how you're going to attack the night, but something i do when i know im going out to eat is restirct my calories slightly during the day so I don't feel guilty if i eat a little more and this way I can still enjoy myself without thinking too much about the affects. Also, u don't need to necessarily order the "healthy" stuff. You could eat nachos but only eat a couple of them and very slowly to let ur sister eat most of them and u can always share a meal or even if u order ur own, portion yourself and box up the rest. |

| Weight Loss | What is similar to fat's density? | Apr 09 2009 05:42 (UTC) |
7 |
It sounds like you unclear what density is; density = mass divided by volume. It has nothing to do with the consistency, type of material, etc. Playdough works fine because it is compressible. All you have to do is find how much mass a fat has in a given volume (this will be a constant). lets say the density is 1 kilogram per meter cubed. All you would do is duplicate that with your playdough by either squishing or expanding it so its the same volume than added or moving mass to it and then voila.
"what kind of goop would be similar to the density fat holds?" unless u mean fat HAS density by that statement, it doesn't make sense. it would be clear to say "what kind of goop would be similar to the density of fat?" Again, as long as you can find something that compresses to the mass and dimensions of fat, you can use that as your model. |

its suppose to include ur 300 calorie workout. Moderate exercise is subjective. 300 calories for me would be light. If thats the only exercise u do then ur total cals should be 1608. u overestimated by over 700 |

r u frickin' joking 86bg? there's NO WAY u will be able to tell the difference in gravity from sitting/lying down to standing up. wow, that's one of the dumbest things i've ever heard.
and fredontoast, you're right. I believe I mentioned that earlier. Mass is what accounts for the difference.
I'm still just surprised at what 86bg said. geez. |

charge less? why would they charge less? they want to make money. Why do you think olive garden offers unlimited breadsticks and salad/soup? because they get to charge you more and are making a larger profit off of it. The breadsticks, salad, and soups cost almost nothing per table because of the large quantities they buy. Same with any other restaurant. They want to buy in bulk and save. If they start offering smaller portions, than they would be purchasing less and probably be paying more per x amount. Plus it makes fatties happy. Why can't people just share a meal? thats the SAME thing. |

| Calorie Count | Nutrition Grades: How reliable are they? | Apr 06 2009 10:16 (UTC) |
|
that's highly doubtful. Everything is given a weighted average. Bananas have some weight to them and that may be why you're grade is improving. If i eat 1000g and have a B grade, than chew 10 pieces of gum that all get Fs, the grade will unlikely change because my total intake would be maybe 1010 and that's only 1% increase in total food weight. If i eat 1000g and i eat a banana that weighs 150g that's 15% boost in my calorie intake so you should expect it to affect ur grade.
I'm sure if you substitute a banana for some other fruit that gets an A with the same weight it'll have the same affects. |

Most fast food places have nutrition facts. Along with a lot of restaurants if you search for them. I'm glad you're not going to cheesecake factory. Less of a line for me when i get there. And again if you search, you'll find their nutritional facts and realize they're the same as any restaurant. |

| Fitness | Muscle weighs 5 times more than fat??! | Apr 06 2009 09:33 (UTC) |

correct. Weight = Mass x Gravity. Density = Mass divided by Volume. So, by your hypothetical, given the same volume, muscles will have more mass and hence more density. Gravity doesn't change for us, so the higher mass will therefore weigh more. |

oh man. this is FANTASTIC. This is the family's and girlfriend's favorite place to eat. I heard their food was loaded with calories. But between 1000-2000 is NOT bad at all for a restaurant. That's pretty average to me. Nice. Now I don't feel so bad. |
