Foods Egg whites Nov 22 2009

Original Post by bigd147:

The best thing about egg whites from the carton is the convenience.  Yeah, the yoke is the best part, but it is also where all the "bad stuff" is . . . that's why I am eating whites . . . I use the carton whites and like them (probably have gotten used to them), but if they bother you use real eggs and separate the white from the yoke . . . I don’t think you will see that much different through . . . I think is a major pain in the butt to separate eggs, plus I have a hard time wasting anything, so it is tough on me to throw the yokes in the trash . . . you can always do the half and half mix Feljones suggested . . . I do that sometimes . . . NAD

How are the yolks bad? =/  I eat like 3 eggs a day.

I vote for:

  • mini bagels
  • mini pastries
  • tuna sandwiches
  • selections of cakes/cookies
  • dark chocolate covered strawberries
  • fruit
That way, you'll have small servings of the really decadent stuff, and can eat regular portions of the "healthier" foods =]

Health & Support Not enough fat and protein? Nov 21 2009

Original Post by shalem:

I'm going to be blunt.  You are eating a lot of the wrong things.  In what you just listed you are getting a lot of fat and bad carbs.  The croissants are loaded with fat and white flour, these are gong to just make you more hungry.  Also the cheese is loaded with fat (unless you have fat free or low fat).  I'm guessing that your pb & j is on white bread, peanut butter is high in fat and white bread just makes you more hungry.  Eggs are a great way to get protein and the green onion and green pepper are great but skip the cheese if you've already had a lot of fat.

You could eat much more food and not be hungry if you would change WHAT your eating.  And things like Wu-Yi and Hoodia are a waste of money, they don't work.

Have you used all the help that this site has to offer?  You can find out exactly how many calories you need and how many calories each food has in it right here.

There is no reason to be so hungry all the time.  Do a little research and I'm sure you can find a better way.  Good luck

I agree that you could be having more protein and fiber.  However, fat is not a bad thing...I would just substitute healthier carbs and add more proteins in.  And yes, HOodia and the weird tea are not solutions to your bad eating habits - you should stop spending money on those.

Weight Loss Struggling Losing Weight Nov 21 2009

Your body has a lot of fat because you're not doing any resistance exercises.

You're always hungry because you're not eating enough to match your burn.

You're not losing because your consumed calories are too low.

Solution: do some resistance exercises if you're worried about fitting into your clothes, and increase the amount of calories consumed right now.

Foods Kashi Go Lean Cereals? Do they taste good? Nov 21 2009

I like GoLean.  It has a different taste from Fiber One (with that, you get an overly sweet sensation, followed by a cardboard taste, which is when the artificial horridness hits you) and from All-bran.  I think it's a perfect balance between REAL sweetness and blandness.  I personally don't like the GoLean Crunch that much though, since it's too sweet for me.  If you're one to like "adult" cereals, GoLean is a good choice.  If you're a kid cereal person, you should try GoLean Crunch.

Thanks for the reminder to post, Sara!

Wow, I realized that I was very stressed out!  I took a stress management session yesterday, and I did not go overboard on the food last night!  I think I'm going to give myself more "me" time in the future to just straighten things out, and give ample time for myself to work on things such as projects and papers and presentations.  So in terms of my goal, I didn't do that great at all until just yesterday...hopefully it'll keep up as time passes and I continue to work these good habits into my life. =]

Health & Support Starting to night-binge again... Nov 19 2009
02:26 (UTC)

I'm starting to lose the amount of time I have free every day to cook.  I like to cook fresh foods, so every dish takes me about 10 minutes to prepare and cook.  Unfortunately, I only have one pot (I'm not going to buy another one because it means I'll have to throw out an extra $30 after using it for only a semester since I can't afford to take it home with me or store it over the summer).  I do like to slow-cook, but I ran out on the amount of meat in my freezer (beans just don't cut it for me to be "meaty"), and meat hasn't been on sale for the past few weeks, so I've been just buying it little by little until I can hoard all of it in my freezer again.  Hence I start snacking it up a lot because a bunch of lunchmeat or cheese is a lot easier to prepare and eat than boiling an egg.  (eggybumfluff, you can tell I already eat lots of fat and protein right before sleeping, but it doesn't really work =/)

Ugh, anyway, thanks to whoever who actually took the time to read that rant.  I guess I just needed to vent.

tessa, I'll try your advice.  Maybe I'll just let the fat slide and eat it instead of throwing it in the trash whenever I prepare soups and stuff.

Foods Cacao nibs Nov 18 2009
08:52 (UTC)

Ehhh purchased 2 pounds of these nibs, and found that I don't like them very much =[  When I first tasted them, they gave off a more fermented taste like anything, like wine.  I don't mind it too much, but I was looking for more of an unsweetened baking chocolate taste.  Any suggestions for what to do with the rest?  I don't have a blender, unfortunately, so I can't grind the nibs.

Cookie crisps are TERRIBLE =[  They don't taste a bit like cookies.

My favorite cereals in the past have been kashi, trader joe's, and some of fiber one and all-bran's.

meg - when I had standard meals (right now it's a lot of snacking due to laziness and the "oh! I just ate, so let's just eat another something that's light") I found it really easy to stay on track because I cooked and appreciated things more, and ate at the table the proper meals instead of the snacks at the computer.  My good day would typically look like this:

Breakfast: Always milk and oats with some flaxseed and a hard boiled egg

Lunch: Rice, about 2-3 servings of steamed vegetable, a protein, and some milk

Dinner: I would usually be really creative about this, but sometimes it would be beef soup, a small sandwich, and a yogurt

Intermittently I would have snacks of nuts and seeds in between to ensure I got enough fats.
