*aneib* "I know all about oral-fixations, and not just for food (although goodness knows I can't stop eating!). I used to chew my hands, arms, and knuckles as a kid, and even have calluses on my knuckles to prove it. Sometimes I find myself gnawing again... and have to make myself stop. It's an awful habit" Jeez, I know - I am currently chewing cinnamon sugarless gum & I still have the urge to bit my fingernails while chewing the gum. It's rediculous.

*little butterfly* Thank you so much for the picture compliments, I still get self concious especially since I gained so much weight. It will be tough eating foods at first because you simply just don't like them. Do the best you can with the snacking. I found that eating shellfish really helped me. It's meat that's not real heavy but provides alot of nourishment. If you aren't allergic to shellfish & you like seafood, I suggest crab legs or peel & eat shrimp (cold shrimp). You can usually get this at the grocery store & you can snack on this most of the day for protein. Salads are a good way to start eating b/c it's light...cucumbers, olives, baby carrots with pemento cheese is good. Tunafish is a good way to start getting your protein intake too. Don't exclude dairy & bread all together, just don't over do it like I did. It's tricks your body into thinking it's full, when really it needs more food. Overcoming anorexia is indeed a challenge and also very hard to talk about with others. I had no one to talk to about my anorexia / bulimia & I still struggle with it at times. I'm proud of you for reaching out on this message board for help with your eating disorder. That first step is huge and it shows you really want to overcome this. You may send me a message any time if you are needing some support or having a bad day with it etc. You don't have to do this alone :) |

*Jennifer* "Are you from Jax Beach as in Jacksonville, FL? That's where I grew up! Only not on the beach. I lived right outside of Orange Park. Small world!" Holy cow, it is a small world. lol I used to live on the southside of town before I moved to the beach. I went the Englewood (sucky school) & graduated in 95. I can't believe it's been 12 years since I graduated highschool, I'm an old fart. lol

*cathy* "i am very small framed but as my problems got worse and worse it seems like gaining weight has become a small problem... in order to maintain i can only eat very small meals, along with exercising vigorously for two hours six times a week... is my problems with weight due to PCOS?" Yes, I am almost certain of it. Eating 4-5 healthy small meals a day (veggies low in sugar, very low carbs, higher protein) along with regular excercise will help you loose the weight. Talk to your doctor about insulin medicine such as Metformin. For the hormone issue (lack of or heavy periods, facial hair, etc) I take Estrosense. It's all natural & it balances your hormones & periods. I can also enjoy sex again as long as the jerk isn't too rough. I am small framed too. Only 4'10" so I understand what your going through. Feel free to send me a message any time if you have any questions that might be too embarrassing to ask the board. Don't worry, you can get through this PCOS thing... the symptoms are reversable with the right diet & excercise. Just remember to stay away from sugary foods & beverages. Also drink TONS of water!! It flushes out all of the impurities & toxins in your body. Lots of times when we think we are hungry we are really thirsty so water is the key. Good Luck! Mia

*cathy* "does anyone lack a sex drive at times and have pain with sex? " Yes! Absolutely. The last time I had sex it hurt extremely bad. I think it's important that your partner understand that you are sensitive down there. If he can't be romantic & try to "get your juices flowing" so to speak then he's not worth it. Kick him to the curb. (I recently broke it off with a guy b/c he was too rough w/ me; it shows a lack of respect). Otherwise, just take it slow so it doesn't hurt so bad. If you start slow you will be lubricated enough to enjoy the sex & go at whatever speed you want. Just don't over do it; pace yourself and you'll enjoy it more.

*hasta* "Problem is I want to keep going when I get home." Ooh, I have that problem too. Unfortunately I live in the bar district of town (Jax Beach) and I am also a social butterfly in the entertainment business so I have swarm of bar buddies. I live only a few blocks away from the strip so there's always an afterparty at my house of 5 peeps or so (used to be 50 back in the day) I call it "Club Mia - where the party keeps a goin' & drinks don't stop a flowin' " It's only once a week (mainly Friday nights) if that, but it's still enough to blow my diet and make me feel like a hungover lush the next day. I live alone so it's hard not to go out & wanna network with cocktails. It breaks the ice and the monotony. I strain to remember what I did for fun before I was 21.....

I hear ya! Drinking & not eating is what got me chunky in the first place. I don't drink often but when I do I binge. I love doing shots & sipping my weak Captain & Coke all night. Unforunately my poision of choice has tons of sugar. I've switched to Bicardi & Diet or flavored Vodka & Tonic but man, the next day - all I crave is milk & Chef boyarde (that's my hangover therapy). The only thing that has helped me somewhat is drinking water with my cocktails. If I drink a glass of water for every shot or drink then I don't drink as much & I don't blow my diet as bad. The next day I have a bowl of grapenuts & skim milk which takes the place of my chef boyarde and milk therapy. Chin up girlie, it's seems we all have the weekend vice every now and again! Cheers! lol Mia |

"i think the chronic exhaustion is the worst part. no matter how much sleep i get, i feel like i have been running the whole day, my brain and my body feel like mush. its depressing. " I feel the exact same way. All I want to do is sleep or lay on the couch. Having PCOS sucks. I did find an herbal pill that helped me with my periods & hormones though, it's call Estrosense - you can order it online or get it from your local health food store. I even think I'm ovulating again (although I am in no way ready for motherhood yet). |

I am a recovering anorexic / bulimic. Let me tell you, please please eat 4 to 5 small meals a day, if you don't you will in fact GAIN alot of weight simply because your body knows that you are starving it & it will start storing every little thing you do eat as fat. Whenever we deprive our body of what it needs our bodies internal brain will work overtime in storing everything possible to keep it alive. If you start eating very healthy (don't overdo it with carbs) and snack all day long eventually your body will know that you are no longer starving it & it will start burning the food instead of storing it as fat. I became anorexic / bulimic not because I thought I was too fat but because I was grieving from a tramatic death and going through a devistating breakup. I couldn't eat, sleep or function at all. All I wanted to do was smoke cigarrettes and resort to a fantasy world in books, music, etc to mask my pain. Everytime I ate or drank anything I threw it right up. This resulted in serious health problems for me. I lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks and was down to a shocking 78 lbs! Although I was still modeling, my doctor ordered me to move out of my apartment & move back in with my father or else I was going to die of starvation / dehydration. He gave my dad strict instructions to feed me Ensure to help me gain weight & maintain nutrition. I was so skinny that my pants were falling right off of me (pants that were already a size 1) and my boss sent me home b/c I looked so sick, forcing me to take a leave of absence. Soon after, I lost my job & began drinking alot of alcohol. I figured it was inevitable that I would throw up so either it was eat food and still be depressed later vomiting up food or drink alcohol that would fill me up, temporarily make me feel better because of the buz and if I had to vomit up the alchohol it wouldn't hurt so much because it was only liquid. Being only 21 years old I had no idea what I was doing to my body. If I wasn't drinking alcohol, I was drinking a gallon of milk every other day to sooth my stomach & eating crackers or bread every once in awhile for food. I am now 30 years old and 140lbs. 50 lbs heavier than my healthy body weight. I have severe G.I issues, IBS, Acid Reflux, possible stomach ulcers and I have developed Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)- a condition that causes you to have heavier periods, results in infertility and you are insulin resistant (sort of like pre diabetes) causing major weight gain, some facial hair growth & possible obesity. I have a feeling that if it weren't for my eating disorder & the alcohol, I would have never developed PCOS. I want you to go to my picture gallery & see the difference. There are several pictures from when I felt I was a normal weight - and then there is one in particular (black and white picture in a castle from 2000) where I was anorexic. If you look closely you can see how skinny I am by the wrists & how big my mouth is. All the pictures have dates so you know which ones are recent & which ones are older. Please please take my advice and start eating small healthy meals a day & DO NOT try to fill up on a piece of bread or a glass of milk. It's not worth it - anorexia will kill you or make you so sick you'll want to die, trust me. |

The last one I saw was Across the Universe. It's a musical to Beatles songs but it's VERY artistic & entertaining. Lots of visuals. If you appreciate art / music / etc you'll like this movie. I'm not sure if it's still in theatres though - you may wanna check your listings. |

Hey all! I'm an artist; I paint in mixed media & I am also an art critic for Movement Magazine. You can check out my articles at movementmagazine.com & click on the Arts & Culture section - that's me :) I am also a singer / songwriter (much better singer than artist), an actress, author / screenplay writer and model. I do all of this at nights & weekends & work in the mortgage biz during the day. I'm new to this site (just joined today) so I don't know anybody yet. Good luck with all of your weight loss goals guys - nice to meet ya! Mia
