Health & Support TRYING to be insanely positive Apr 18 2008

I can relate 100%. I think all the time, "Will this ever end?" I honestly think I will be counting calories or carbs or whatever else for the rest of my life. But, I understand what you mean about trying to stay positive. Honestly, I can't give any good advice, haha, because i'm there too. But, sometimes I think it helps to know there are others out there too. I do exercise alot. Mainly cardio; running and cycling. I've noticed that effects my positivity alot. The exercise releases endorphins in the body and gives you like a high and I always feel better and happy after.

Fitness Protein shakes everyday?? Apr 13 2008

It really depends on how much protein you are getting in. Even on workout days, if i'm eating enough protein throughout the day and I know I will be eating it in the evening then I don't have to drink it. Me personally, I am a meat eater, I eat A LOT of chicken, burger pattys, fish. In order not to over eat my proteins I don't even drink a shake unless on that day I hardly had any protein. So, keep track of your typical daily protein intake and figure it out from there.

I'd suggest, if you don't already know, to go on mypyramid.com and find out approx. how much protein to daily intake. Then look at your food log and see about how much you do intake. If it's below on most days then I would drink the shake on most days when it's below.

Fitness Does muscle really weigh more than fat? Apr 11 2008

1.) Don't weight yourself too often. I wouldn't recommend more then once a week. Especially when you're weight training. It will drive you crazy! If you think about it; the difference in weight between fat and muscle.. Fat is not firm or stable and it just jiggles there. Muscle is hard and firm and stable. Can you see how that would make a difference?

I'm 5'8, going on 22, and looking to lost about 15-20 as well! It's so not easy and I workout all the time. But, I drink as well which doesn't help me at all! I'm taking my sports nutrition consultant exam in May and my personal training exam in June so let me know if you need any help!

It's still very cold here as well :( I keep watching the weather waiting for a day it will be in its high 60's so I can give it a shot in the evening. But, It's been all summer since i've run and I can't take it anymore. I think i'm going to start it off on the treadmill while it's cold and work up to the outside in a few weeks. Hopefully not too much longer! I'm antsy!

Fitness "The Firm" workout. Anyone else tried it? Mar 28 2008

Well, there's a web site www.firmdirect.com it really is amazingly intense. I'd recommend go to like wal mart or maybe target and just buy one dvd to see what it does. I had to borrow one from a friend and the first video I was done. Then I went out and bought the whole set! haha, now i'm on a lil kick about telling everyone about it

oh, it's no typo. 3,000 cals daily on workout days. Meaning, at my job, running around the office I burn typically 2000 daily. Then I hit the gym for an hour or so of intense cardio and burn approx. 1000. So, yea, some days 3000 throughout the entire day.. But, cals are still about 1500 intake. So actually I was 1500 cals deficit. But yea. I'm a newbie kind of too so it's okay! I joined in December but never actually did anything on here until the past few weeks. I'm learning too.

I am 22 and I do remember when I was 14 and obsessed over my weight. I was anorexic and bulimic for seven years and now i'm a health and physical fitness major in school. But, I think it's very good to have a site like this where even kids can join and kind of vent. But, it wasn't that long ago that if I had a site like this where I could express how I was feeling and get opinions from non-judgemental people then I would have been so much better off to have so much more support. So, I know it seems frustrating to see so may children on here because they're still growing and when you're 32 you see a 14 year old child that should be having fun. But, for them, it's nice to have all kinds of support so atleast hopefully they won't resort to some kind of eating disorder. I found myself frustrated when I first joined this site, as I was reading blogs and noticing that these girls are like 12.. but, then I started to think back and remember how it was for me, and it can be frustrating because they don't know what you or I know right now. But, they will learn in time. It's good for them to vent though.

I agree with srlhome as well. That's because yea, you're eating... but there are certain nutrients that your body does need. So, if you're not eating what you're body needs then you're body will remain hungry until it gets what it needs. 1200 is the bare minimum if you don't go under that then atleast you're not in starvation mode. Eat fruits, vegetables, protein, good carbs (wheat breads), and don't forget you're calcium. Especially since you've had bulimia issues, you're bones are probably weaker and more brittle then that of a typical healthy female. So, I suguest drinking alot of milk in your diet, skim milk preferably. Only approx 80 cals per glass. And for me, milk seems to fill me up pretty well.

Young Calorie Counters I am so fed up with everything - it seems my life is one long bingeing cycle.... Feb 27 2008

The problem with 'dieting' is that sometimes people think that's exactly what losing weight is. Just a temporary diet until they hit their goal weight and then once they hit it they can go back to what they were doing. It's not about the diet that got you to lose weight, but you need to turn it into a lifestyle change. You need to turn your entire lifestyle into a healthy change. Because the binging will make you keep gaining until you're back at square one. Once in a great while, to have pizza or whatever your heart desires is okay but you need to make that life style change and still watch what you eat. Just cuz you've lost it doesn't mean you've won the war. You've just won a battle. Now it's another one to keep yourself on track. Alot of people also think losing the weight is the hard art and maintenance is the easy part but that's not true either. For some people  the  first couple weeks of maintenance  is just as hard as the first couple weeks of losing weight. Don't lost focus! Good luck!

First off, at 102 lbs... how tall are you and how old? If you're saying that you're 19 lbs under weight and you have a very serious problem about gaining when you're that much under... You probably need to see more then just a nutritionalist, you probably need a therapist. I know myself because I went through seven years of anorexia and bulimia. But other then that, you should probably call your nutritionalist first thing in the morning and tell her that it's very important you see her asap because it sounds like you have a problem. I'm not trying to be rude at all, sorry if it might come off that way, but in all honesty, you should call your nutritionalist right away sweetheart.
Weight Loss so many calories before noon? Feb 27 2008
01:40 (UTC)

That's totally me. In the AM I eat an easy 600 by noon if not more. It is best to get alot of your calories and your carbs in in the AM because that's all energy and it helps to kick start your day off with the right amount of energy. So, you're fine. When I started I used to sweat it too, eating so much in the morning, but I've noticed that if I eat more in the morning i'm not so hungry in the evening. It's when you don't eat enough in the morning you have a better chance of binging in the evening and that it never good.

Weight Loss Why am I not losing? Feb 26 2008
00:18 (UTC)
I typically eat about 1200.. even on days that I exercise to the max. So, i'm sure i'm taking in too few calories. The days I typically eat 1900 are the days that I kind of "binge" on maybe a few cookies or a brownie. I am starting my menstrual cycle in approx. 5 days and I just realized that. It could possibly be water weight maybe? Hopefully. But thankyou everyone!

I don't want to go at all today! On Wednesday I ran for an hour and since then I haven't felt like going... Atleast you have you're fiance to make you go, that's good. My boy is in Iraq so he's not here to make me go and most of my friends have different gym memberships :( So, i'm on my own in the battle haha
Fitness ello! are there any personal trainers/fitness instructors out there? Jan 31 2008
00:23 (UTC)

I'm working on ACE personal training certification right now. It is tough though. Alot of friends of mine are trainers and they say they started with NEASTA. I actually think i'm going to go with NEASTA and get certified through them first to get my foot in the door and then finish up my ACE. I hear NEASTA is alot easier to start off.

Fitness After a workout Jan 30 2008

It's because your muscles swell up with fluids whenever you're lifting weights that's all. Especially when you're doing a very intense workout. What happens is you're lifting more then what you're body is used to and when you're lifting you're mussels tear so they swell up when you're body sends to repair the tears. So, that 'burn' you probably feel is when your muscles have torn-that burn is the fluids that your body has sent. The burn is what you feel as the fluids hit the tear of the muscle.

When I want something I shouldn't have I usually brush my teeth. Nobody wants to eat after brushing their teeth. eww. Although, depending on the week and the day (weather it's been an A, B day or not) sometimes I just eat it but in proportion. Meaning, I control myself and don't binge. Like, the other night I was craving cookies and so I looked at my caloriecount and it had been a pretty healthy day and I was still well below calories for the day so I treated myself and had two. Of course, whenever I do "cheat" I tend to do the gym thing later that day or I do something to raise my metabism to help burn the extra bad calories.
