Jessinca, (ps if ca is CAlifornia, you ROCK!) I'm pretty sure it depends on what kind of fats from those extra calories you took in to be able to make them into muscle. Good fat and fat from protein, can be turned into muscle, but bad fat from soda and candy and junk it going to be next to impossible to turn into anything but fat. It has something to do with how the bad fat sticks to your tummy and works with your system. (thank you Magic School Bus). :-) Roxie10 |

3500 calories = 1 lb of PURE FAT! Nothing good. You can maintain your calories but eat junk and still gain weight, like Jakinkale said, water weight, undigested food weight, and food waiting to be "realeased" weight. On the other hand, you can also eat well and still gain weight too, but if you go 3500 calories over your maintence, you are putting 1 lbs of pure fat, and a lot more lbs of water, food, and other bad stuff. |

| The whole "skinny dissing fat/fat dissing skinny" sounds like a good subject for a new forumn, but NOT this one. That's not what THIS one is all about and it's not what this one is trying to accomplish. | |||

Yes, a calories is a calorie, but it's not all about controlling your calories. You should be looking, and probably focusing on the other nutrition facts. Check it out: My Cereal (Fruit Loops 2cups): 236 Calories - 52.6 carb - 1.8 fiber - 2 protein My Oatmeal (Apples and Cinn 2pkgs): 260 Cals - 53 carbs - 5.4 fiber - 5.4 protein More Carbs, More Calories, but more than double the protein and fiber. It's all about being healthy. When i eat cereal, my blue slice, is huge and my yellow is but a little sliver. When i eat my oatmeal it's the blue is almost half and my yellow meets my blue. And the fat from my cereal is pure bad fat, but the fat from my oatmeal, is from the sugar/fat in the dried apples the fat in proteins (good fat) and of course some bad fat too. |

Wow, seriously girls, put the claws away. I dont' think anyone is saying that one weight is better than an others or a positive can't be on both sides. If you don't like the thread, you don't have to read it. This is just a woman who is saying she has a full healthy body and is embracing it. All women want to look good but some women just aren't built to be skinny and some aren't built to be big. In my opinion this site is about encouraging each other. Weither the person needs to gain weight or lose weight, and being happy and comfortable with who you are. We can always find ways to better ourselves and find things we don't like about ourselves but it's nice to start to think about what your doing well and the benefits of where you are at today, rather than where you might someday be. Dont you think there is enough cenorship on politically correctness? |

I had the same question when I first started counting everything. AFter some research this is what i found for a female in her 20's: Protein: 200lbs would be 72 grams per day (weight x .36) Carbs: 180-230g per day Sodium: 2300-2500 per day Fiber: 25-30 grams per day to stay regular Fat: I was suggested to keep it between 10-25% and have most of your fat be from your protein sources and not from candy, soda, and stuff like that. Hope it helps and good luck with your goals! Drop me a message if you find yourself in need of encouragment, accountability, or just someone to vent to. Roxie10

For me, it all started with some Nike or shoe ad that said "if you started when you first thought of it, you'd be done by now" and showed a picture of a chick running. That was my inspriation. I know that when I start saying "later" or "tomorrow" I do nothing, but if I catch myself before I convince myself and say "screw, lets do it now and get it over with" than, although starting off it's begrungingly I start getting into it, and I always feel better than sitting on the couch saying "at the end of this episode". As for skipping snacks, my hypocritical advise is to just look at everything for 3-5 seconds before you eat it. Or compare it with the work it takes to get rid of it, are those M&M's really worth the 30 minutes of cardio?

It's not too often I see people say something about wanting to gain weight, but it's good that you make a goal to get healhier. 5'8 and 80 lbs can't be good for your health. I agree that you should see a doctor, but if you didn' want to. I would recommend starting off small. 19000 Calories is insane, and wouldn't make you any healthier than being 80lbs. Maybe you can attempt 3500 Calories a day and try to take in good amounts of protein. One thing I can say for sure is don't try to put on fat, but put on weight in muscle and body. Dont eat McDonalds everyday and sit on a couch. Try to keep up walks or moving about, maybe even hit the gym and do minor cardio and weights. (take some women's protein things with you). Another good way to gain some weight is if you like the taste of Slim Fast, drink a couple Slim Fasts a day WITH or INCLUDING you meals. Slim Fast as a meal subsistute should help you loose weight, but if you keep eating what you do and have it in addition to your meals, you should start to gain weight. If you need someone to talk to, you can always hit me up. I try to log in daily to update my food and activity logs, and I might knwo a bit of where your coming from. :) Roxie10 |
