| Weight Loss | Cambridge Diet | Jun 19 2008 14:07 (UTC) |

I am currently doing the Cambridge diet. Today is my 8th day. I started at 236 and am currently at 229. I plan on staying on it until I lose A LOT more weight. Someone I work with did this plan about a year and a half ago and lost 105 pounds in 8 months. She looks great and hasn't put it back on. I think the reason people gain it back when they cut calories is because when you do something as drastic as this, it can be SOO good to start eating again that you overdo it and it triggers a binge session. I am doing it because I need some time to get away from food and reconnect with my stomach. I need to let it shrink to a normal size and to experience what hunger feels like. In the 8 days so far, I have not felt hungry except when it's time to eat. You can have 3 or 4 shakes a day - you can have shakes or soups. I like both but the soups are especially good. You can have chicken broth, and you can also stir in dried herbs, pepper and tobasco sauce into the soups to help give it more flavor. VLCD get a hard time mostly because people fear 1) starvation mode and 2) I think a lot of it comes down to some people thinking it's dangerous. To be honest my doctor told me that while I was not HUGE, it is MORE dangerous for me to dismiss it and that to be so overweight is far far more detrimental to your health than these sorts of plans are if followed properly and preferably if you are monitored by your doctor monthly. I wish that people would not put down others who are trying to do SOMETHING rather than nothing about their weight. Do I know for sure I will stay on this until the end? No frankly - but at 8 days in I feel like things are going well. We'll see how it goes. I am listening to my doctor and my body in the meantime. |

It's so refreshing to hear others telling their stories - I mean it makes me feel less like a weirdo! Tomorrow is my first day of forcing myself to get into a good routine. I have a long way ahead of me. I also have suffered from depression in the past and I think that may be where some of this habit has stemmed from for me. I am no longer depressed though and no longer on any form of medication or anything so I need to just kick my own butt. |
