Foods Deli Lunch Ideas Jul 30 2009
22:24 (UTC)

I actually never thought to get a hummus and veggie wrap, I will definitely have to see if the local deli has hummus! Unfortunately my co-workers are not very health conscious, and usually get the specialty sandwiches, all of which generally contain meats such as breaded chicken cutlets, ham and roast beef, with cheese and high calorie dressing, all of which i try to avoid. Today i did try grilled chicken and vegetables which was pretty good, so that's a start. Thanks for your suggestions!

As a college student, I CONSTANTLY get comments about my healthy eating habits, especially after a night out when I refuse pizza at 2 am (one night after a party I actually ordered a grilled chicken salad, and I still haven't let that one down). Honestly, I was pretty much raised on "healthier" food and while I must admit sometimes it is tempting to skip the dessert section, I don't feel as much as a need to indulge in everything I see just because I am "independent". I like to stick to what I am used to. Though I must say, the fact that most of the dining hall food doesn't look appealing anyway, regardless of how healthy or unhealthy it is, does make it a lot easier for me to head straight for the salad bar.

I'm in college, so the options are limited to begin with. I usually eat with a bunch of guys who basically eat anything and everything, so I'm just going to stick with the girls.

L=skinny. She's the only one who doesn't come to the dining hall with us regularly and usually eats sushi and granola bars-and lots of it. But when she does, she usually gets fish if it's available or pasta if it isn't, and ALWAYS gets a side of fries and a brownie for dessert.

H=average/on the thinner side. Usually a plate of pasta and a bowl of cereal, and a cookie for dessert.

C=average/athletic. She's an intense track runner, and a very picky eater. She usually gets pizza and pasta, along with either fish or a burger and eats no more than half of each before she gets sick of it. But she almost always gets a cookie or ice cream for dessert.

A=average/a little bigger, but she's also 5'10. it varies. she eats the widest variety out of all of us. usually she'll go for whatever panini is available, or she'll get creative and make her own sandwiches and meals out of whatever is there. she usually gets a salad as well, and some sort of cake or cookie for dessert. she eats a lot but she's also bigger than us (much taller) and she works out regularly and takes care of herself.

Me=average/on the thinner side. I always get slack for being too healthy. I usually get grilled chicken with a salad consisting of virtually every vegetable at the salad bar (which i also get made fun of) and chick peas, no dressing, and fruit salad for dessert. Occasionally I'll get some ice cream (which I actually think is really frozen yogurt, they just call it ice cream) or sometimes a cup of marshmallows when they have them by the hot chocolate, but very rarely.

after seeing the Parent Trap (the Lindsay Lohan version) when I was around 8 or 9, my sister and I used to eat oreos and peanut butter, in excess. We literally used to eat at least half a bag of oreos between the two of us, dipping them straight into the peanut butter jar. So good, but now that I look back on it, I can't believe I used to do that.

Young Calorie Counters Books Anyone?? Jun 06 2008

My favorite book of all time is "The Portriat of a Lady" by Henry James. It is so heartbreakingly beautiful and absolutely breathtaking. It's about 600 pages long, but it is so worth it I promise.

As far as classics go, I love anything by Jane Austen or JD Salinger, "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte, "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte, and "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott.

If you like something more contemporary, I love anything by Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket). I highly recommend his first adult novel, "The Basic Eight". I also love Chuck Palahniuk, he's one of the most inventive, originial and absurd writers I've ever read.

And for romance, I deffinately suggest Phillipa Gregory. She's a little trashy at times, but the historical context makes me feel better about reading it.

Oh and of course "The Perks of Being a Wallflower". Who hasn't fallen in love with that book??

haha I'm a total English nerd, so I'm going to stop myself here.

Weight Loss Weekend Damage May 27 2008

Thanks for the advice! Just to clear things up, I didn't eat all things things on one particular day, it was spread out throughout the weekend (went to the mexican resturant and then the ice cream place one day, the cafe and the pub another), and I started every day with a healthy breakfast (oatmeal and fruit one day, yogurt and fruit another, a veggie omelette on the last). I know the damage probably isn't too bad, it's just after months of constantly eating healthily, so much unhealthy food in one weekend seems a bit overload to me. I'm just having useless anxiety, and though I know I should just put it behind me and move on, I needed that extra reassurance from someone else that it wasn't THAT bad. Thanks again for your input!!
