That happened to me when I was training for my marathon. I actually lost my third toenail. It just happens, especially if you run A LOT. My suggestion is to take a break from running and try other forms of cardio to give your legs and feet a break. It's definitely not good for your joints if you do it constantly (everyday) |

| Weight Loss | Can you lose weight without exercise? | Apr 23 2008 06:00 (UTC) |

You can definitely lose weight without exercising. A couple of years ago, I lost almost 20 lb without going to the gym at all. Mind you, I was doing other things like biking to school everyday or other various activities, but I never tried to exercise. Two years later, I have kept the weight off except gaining three lb which isn't bad at all (I'm in the progress of losing those three plus five!). But here is one important thing to know. Although the lbs will come off, your body will not be tight and toned. I may be three lbs heavier, but I now work out almost six days a week doing various cardio workouts plus water aerobics. I definitely see a physical change in my body. I'm much tighter and I can see more of my muscles protruding. So, although I'm the same weight, I'm sure I've lost more inches and therefore I look more toned. Exercise is the better way to go. If you don't want to exercise, I say that you focus on your diet (it's also important to know that losing weight is 70% diet and 30% exercise). Then, once your close to your goal weight, start toning and you will look amazing! |

Hi everyone, so I have no idea what happened to me this past week. My healthy eating habits seriously went down the drain minus about three days when I actually ate healthy. I have no idea how much I weigh right now and I don't even want to know. Yesterday I finally got back on track, but I feel bloated and disgusting now, even though I've been eating good these past couple of days. I weighed in at 125 and I seriously feel like I'm at 130 now, but I won't weigh myself! So I feel all you out there who have binged lately, why do we do this? I wish I never had this problem, but what can I do now except to move on and eat right. So my progress is I feel crappy because of the binging, but I will change it from today on. I'll give you a weigh in in a week :) |

Good morning everyone! lfaine, thanks for closing this group, I think it'll be better with a much more intimate setting where there's just enough people to be supportive. Well it's that time, Thursday morning! I'm doing great, although I haven't weighed myself this week. #1 because I didn't eat very well a couple of days ago and #2 Aunt Flow came to visit for a few days :) I'm feeling confident about this weight loss though. I've picked up my workout routine and am finally eating my BMR. For the longest time I was eating 1200 because that's what CC recommended and because I had the mentality that the less I eat, the more I lose! Not! I think the main thing that I'll need support with is not having a cheat day yet. I know that they're not a bad thing, but I promised myself that I won't have a cheat/free day until I reach my goal weight. So you all have to help me with that! |

calculate your BMR. Your BMR is what determines how many calories you should eat minimum. So my BMR is 1400. For the longest time I was eating 1200 bc CC suggested for me to eat that much in order to lose weight on a sedentary lifestyle. The problem is, my body burns 1400 just to stay alive, so it went into starvation mode when i only ate 1200. Of course, I lost my initial 10 lbs that way due to the calories in vs calories out rule, but I finally hit a plateau for a good month and I didn't know why. I researched a lot and I finally calculated my BMR and started eating 1400 a day. It totally worked! I am now down 1 lb from changing my daily calorie intake four days ago. So, see what your bmr is and never eat below that. |

This is what I do and it always works. I usually have those binge cravings right around my totm and I just give in to them. Just last month, I was crabby, tired, hungry, etc and I just ate anything that I wanted to eat. This was my thought process WEll I might as well go to town with it because it's for sure back to my healthy eating habits tomorrow. So I would enjoy my chocolate, my pizza, my whatever because I knew I wouldn't have it for a while. Hope this helps. |

| Weight Loss | 2 months off... 8lbs on! | Mar 15 2008 00:45 (UTC) |

I definitely sympathize with you. I studied abroad in Greece this past summer. Before I went, I averaged from 125-126. I sure did go to town with the food there. Crepes, pizza, bread, everything that I never eat in the States. I noticed my clothes getting tighter, but in a way, I didn't care, I still wanted to have fun and eat. I still looked good in my bathing suit, so I wasn't complaining. I stayed there from June to August and I gained a good 10 lb. I finally got to use my scale again and it said I was 136! And that was actually after being home for a good three weeks. During those first three weeks back I started eating semi-healthy, so I know I gained probably 12-15 lb and lost 2-5 lb before finally weighing myself. I was so upset and a lot of my jeans didn't fit me anymore and I hated looking at myself naked in the mirror. I decided that that was the last time I would ever see the 130s again, i joined CC and now I'm back to 125. My goal is 117-120, and I promised myself I was done with the gaining and losing crap because its so unhealthy for my body. So what I'm trying to say is that you definitely can lose this weight again, but you have to be determined and disciplined. Of course, it takes time. It took me three months to lose those 10 lb and then I hit a plateau, but finally go over it because I upped my calorie intake. Good luck! |

| Foods | Another pizza question | Mar 14 2008 17:03 (UTC) |

Of course pizza can be considered an extremely healthy choice! The catch is, it is only healthy (or at least you know it's healthy) if you make it yourself. You could get the frozen kind (south beach diet, amy's, etc) but I don't consider them to be that good. They have the same ingredients as unhealthy pizza, just a lot smaller. Trader Joe's has this amazing Almost whole wheat pizza dough. It's already made and all you have to do is shape it and add your stuff to it and bake it. The whole dough is about 1140 calories, so even half of it would be around 550 cals if you have that much calorie room. For personal pizzas, I weigh the dough, so I know exactly how many calories of it I'm consuming, top it with fat free pizza sauce, fat free shredded cheese, loads of veggies (mushrooms, bell peppers, tomatoes, olives, artichoke hearts, etc) and pop it in the oven. It's absolutely amazing and very healthy. Another pizza that I discovered is called fit 'n free pizza. i ordered it online and they're 7" fat free pizzas that just have cheese. I take them out of the freezer, put more fat free pizza sauce ( i love sauce!) add my veggies, pop it in the oven and acompany it with an amazing salad. I have been having this meal for last two days for lunch and dinner! The great thing is that the whole meal is about 350 cals with the pizza itself being 252 cals! Pizza can definitely be altered to fit your needs. I'm such a pizza girl and I deprived myself so long because every fast food place out there is so unhealthy with 500 cals a slice! But now I seriously eat pizza almost everyday! |

| My personal opinion is that it's totally fine for women to "binge" during their totm. i always give myself a good free day during pmsing and I do feel a lot better. The thing is you have to get right back on track and not keep binging the whole 7 days of pmsing and 3-5 days of your period! | |||

By all means don't get carried away with the eating more thing! You may only have to up your calories by 100 or 200 more and that' s not a lot at all, but can make a huge difference. That just means eat an additional apple, two tablespoons of PB, very little! Don't take advantage of my post and then complain that it didn't work bc you went overboard. Just a warning! |

That's so great all of you are also realizing that eating more is definitely beneficial in your weight loss journeys. I am enjoying these bigger meals. I'm only eating 200 more calories a day, but that goes a long way! I find myself always eating, literally every 2-3 hours, which is highly recommended. This also bumps up your metabolism. I found myself physically hungry this morning after only two hours of eating a good sized breakfast, so I know that it's not because I don't eat a lot when I do eat. I don't know about you all, but if this is what I have to do (eat at my BMR) to lose weight, this healthy lifestyle deal will not be that hard to follow (give or take those special occasions that have amazing food and you must eat it) Good luck everyone and great job! |

i don't understand what the confusion is unless I'm totally getting this wrong as well. There is an eat meter on your account and that is what you should be following in terms of the numbers of calories you eat if you want to lose weight. If you want to lose weight, you definitely don't eat as much as your burn meter, you eat as much only if you want to maintain. So do the profiles if you haven't already, and the eat meter will tell you how much to eat in order to lose weight. The burn meter will always be higher than the eat meter if you want to lose weight. The eat meter is determined through the profile you make yourself (height, sex, age, weight) |

| Weight Loss | messing up, and getting back on track | Mar 06 2008 01:27 (UTC) |

I feel you on this one. I have weighed the exact same for the past two months because every week I have been giving myself an extremely "free day". That means that I literally go to town one day probably eating thousands of calories. Granted, I'm at a healthy weight and only 6 lbs from where I want to be, but it's frustrating not seeing the scale budge. I guess I should give myself credit because even though I have been binging at least once a week, I've definitely been maintaining. I just think of it this way. Alright, I definitely ate whatever I wanted this day, tomorrow it is back on track. I don't know about you, but the day after i eat like crap, I feel like crap and I just want to feel light and fit again. I also think of a certain weight that I never want to go back to and that also keeps me on track. But I decided today that I won't have anymore cheat days until I lose these last six lbs and then I'll give myself a free day once a week and maintain my goal weight. Goodluck! |

I definitely understand where you all are coming from. I'm a very healthy eater and I do not have any junk food in my home. However, that definitely does not prevent me from getting those cravings. I have binged on healthy food before, but honestly, it's not that great to do. If you're binging that most likely means that you're going over your calorie limit for the day, even if it's on healthy food. The point is, you're probably consuming more than you're expending, which certainly leads to weight gain. This also isn't a healthy habit, so I would try to break it. The only advice I can give is allow yourself once a week or once every two weeks to eat what you want. This will keep you sane and most likely will curb those binging sessions. I've done it and I can easily stick to my healthy eating without binging because I don't deprive myself. Think about it, if you do have one of your binge moments and don't have any healthy food around, you will go grab that donut or burger. Start getting into the good habits now :) |

Stuffed chicken is actually my specialtly! You really don't need a specific recipe. Just choose what you want to stuff the chicken with and stuff it! I love stuffing my chicken with fat free tomato and basil feta cheese and spinach. It's absolutely amazing. You can either slit a pocket in the middle of the breast or pound the breast flat and roll it like an enchilada. Season the outside of the chicken with anything you like (salt , pepper, cajun seasoning, rosemary, oregano, etc.) |

When people first start out dieting (i.e. totally changing their eating habits and lifestyle in general) The first few pounds that come off tend to be water weight. I'm pretty sure that those 12 lbs included water weight, but of course fat too! Congrats! Losing water weight is good too! keep at it. You'll most likely see the weight loss slowing down, but losing gradually is better, so it ends up staying off |

| Fitness | How much water a day ...& does it really help? | Jan 24 2008 23:44 (UTC) |
|
I don't know if you're familiar with the term water retention, but that is what happens when you don't drink water. It sounds contradictory but think about it... If you don't drink water then your body thinks that you are deprived of it and will try to hold onto as much water as it could, which leads to holding water, which causes the scale to stay still or go up. Also, drinking water helps flush out all of the sodium that you intake throughout the day (Americans tend to consume way more sodium than they expect). Water makes you skin look fresh and rejuvenated, gives you energy, etc. |

just to let you all know. Muscle definitely does not weigh more than fat. One pound of muscle is equal to one pound of fat. A pound is a pound:) The difference between muscle and fat is that muscle has less volume, meaning that it takes up less space in your body. That's why muscular people look my tight and fit than those who have more fat. You should also know that a person with more muscle at 125 lb burns more calories than a person with more fat at 125 lb. FYI... |

I think it's a personal thing. If you google side effects to anything. This internet will find something no doubt. I love splenda I use at least two packets every single day for as long as I can remember and I haven't had any side effects whatsoever. If you like to use sugar in lieu of splenda, google side effects to sugar and you will definitely find something negative. I agree with a previous post, don't go making crazy claims about something you know very little about. you can't believe everything you read. |
