I had a yay! moment today.  I'm a teacher, and one of the wonderful parents at my school brought in cheesecake!  Now normally I wouldn't mind eating it as long as I had planned around it and given myself enough calories to eat some.  I found out about the cheesecake after I had already eaten my lunch.  I was able to avoid the cake and left school that day a very happy girl!

I'll join.  I started losing weight July 2007.  My highest weight was 164, lowest was 128.  This last year I have gained about 8 pounds back (booo!).  I'm working at dropping the weight back down to where I was, and maybe a little bit more.  I'd really like to lose it before my vacation in mid June, but I know I won't be able  to.  I think I'll try to lose about 5lbs before vacation, and then worry abut the rest after.

Vegetarian Veg friendly baking? May 10 2009
05:07 (UTC)

My husband is vegan, and this is my favorite brownie recipe.   They are so good.  If you can't find vegan chocolate chips, just leave them out.

Ingredients

1 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/2 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla

3/4 cup flour

1/3 cup cocoa powder

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips

1.  Preheat oven to 350.  Spray an 8 x 8 baking pan with nonstick spray.

2.  Mix applesauce, sugar, and vanilla in a medium bowl.  In another bowl mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

3.  Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients, then fold in chocolate chips.

4.  Spread in pan and bake 25-30 minutes.  Cool before slicing.

This brownies are so yummy!

Health & Support Migraines Dec 14 2008

My husband suffers from migraines. From about November 2007 until about six weeks ago, he had a migraine every day, all day.  He says that the on the pain scale his migraines reached from anywhere between a 3-7.  He went to a neurologist when they first started and got all the drugs and such thrown at him.  He's been on several different anti-convulsives and anti-depressants to fight the migraines.  He's also been given every pain pill imaginable from regular Tylenol all the way up to Vicodin.  The medicines he was taking weren't helping at all.  He still had migraines everyday.

About nine weeks ago, after research of our own, we decided that what the doctors were doing wasn't effective at all.  First,  he started on a detox from his pain medicine.  Then, we went on a very restrictive diet.  It is an all vegan diet, with many other restrictions.  Besides vegan, he doesn't eat nuts, yeast, fermented things, preservatives, artificial coloring, coffee, chocolate, vinegar, and a few other things I'm probably forgetting.  After being on the diet for a week, his headaches were gone.  It was an amazing relief  from a year of migraines everyday.

I went from a tight 14 to a 6.  I didn't buy new close till I got down to an 8.  I got made fun of a bit at work for my baggy saggy clothes :-).  I'm hoping to drop down another size, and I'm putting off buying any clothing until I drop a few more pounds.  I currently wear mostly my 8's.  I have a few 6's, but I didn't want to spend too much money while I'm trying to lose still.

Jessica, we sound like we're in almost the same situation!

I already take a good multivitamin everyday, but I'm going to my ob/gyn in February to see what prenatals I should take.  I also know that if you are on the pill, you should go off of it a few months before you want to start trying, just to let your body get used to functioning normally.

I'm going to add you to friends, I bet we'll have a lot to talk about over the next year :-).

I'm trying to finish losing weight before we start ttc.  Hubby and I have agreed to start trying in May after I'm finished with school for the summer (I'm a teacher).  I'd like to lose about 10-15 more lbs before We start trying.  I'm not sure if I'm exactly in the same boat as you, but I wouldn't mind finding another weight loss buddy :-).

I'd like to join as well.  I'm 5'3, 23 years old.  I started CC in August 2007 at 165.  I'm currently 130, and wanting to get down to 120.  I also want to get into killer shape before my husband and I start a family.

I was plateaued at about 136 for probably 2 months.  It was horrid.  What finally got me going again was eating at or a little bit above my maintenance calories for a week.  Then I lowered back down to my dieting calories.  It worked like a charm and I started loosing 1-2lbs per week after that.

I use plain soy milk and vegan margarine.  Earth balance is a good one.  You can also use smart balance light.  Be careful though, I've heard that some times Smart Balance changes ingredients and is not vegan.

My husband can't have chocolate, so to be nice we don't keep it in the house.  So instead of hot chocolate during the winter, we drink hot Carob :-).  We mix vanilla soymilk with 1 T carob powder and the sweetener of your choice.  It tastes a lot like hot chocolate, but more like a spiced hot chocolate.  Its pretty tasty.

not really sure how I've lost weight.  I haven't exercised, and I haven't logged most of my calories this week.    I don't think I've been over eating this week, just not watching as closely as I should be.

Thank you for all the suggestions.  A lot of the things you suggested we already do.  I guess its just a matter of getting him to actually eat enough.  He's on a restrictive diet because of migraines, and the medicine he takes for it causes appetite loss. (We're on the vegan diet as a means to start backing away from the medications he's on)  I guess i just need to continue to force feed him more food :-)

Thanks again!

I should add something to my post.  My husband also can't eat nuts, or yeast.  He gets migraines and is on a very restrictive diet to prevent them.  I think thats about all he can't have: strictly vegan, and no nuts or yeast.

Weight Loss 28, fem, looking to go from 140 to 120 lbs by this fall-similar stats and goals anyone? Nov 11 2008

I am similar to you both as well, toastyocie and glivings.  I am 23 years old, 5'3, and currently 132 lbs.  My ultimate goal is around 115-120.  My first goal is 125 by Christmas.  I started my wieght loss in July 2007 at 164.  My weight loss has slowed to a crawl since I hit around 135.  I am also a new vegan glivings!  I try to stick to it, but I also have a hard time when I really want to eat and a good vegan option isn't around, normally when I'm at work and a food attack occurs :-)

My husband gets migraines that last for days, and we've switched to a vegan diet this week to hopefully combat the headaches.  :-)  So I have been vegan for 4 days.

For the last year I've eaten a vegatarian plus fish diet (I know there's a special word for that, but I forget what it is Smile )

I got married at 19 after having dated my husband for 4 years.  I had the baby bug very bad when we first got married.  We decided to wait until we were both out of school.  I'm 23 now, and I'm starting to get the baby bug very badly again.  :-).  My husband is 27, and he is still wanting to wait a while longer.  He is very financial minded and wants us to wait and save for a year so I can stay home more comfortably the first year.  I know this is a very rational and responsible thing to do, but I'm so ready now to get pregnant!  :-)

I started this program 2 weeks ago.  I've upped my calories from around 1300 to between 1700 to 1900.  I've lost about 3 pounds already.  I love this program because I really feel like I'm accomplishing something.  I feel like I'm working hard and getting something done instead of just going on the elliptical or doing my pilates video.  I'm getting something usable out of it.  I hope I continue to feel this strong sense of accomplishment and satisfaction from the program through out the entire thing.

I'm currently in a size  8.  I'm 5'3, 133 lbs.  I know that I'll be atleast a 6 at my goal weight of 120.  I'd love to be in a 4, but I've never been that small so I'm not sure if I can get there.  I started out at 164 in a size 14

It was my husbands birthday this week, so we went  out to eat two different times, once with my family and once with his.  I always try to eat moderatly healthy when going out, but I just don't think its possible to really know what you are eating.  I can always taste the fat in the "steamed" vegetables.  Hopefully I'll feel more on track next week.

Current weight: 135

Progress This Week:  lost 1 lb of bloat/water weight from ttom

Hooray for Me:  I made my husband an absolutly wonderful sugary calorie filled cake for his birthday as was his request.  I only at one half of a piece.  Its been sitting in the fridge, and I haven't touched it since his birthday.  Its a major breakthrough for me.  I can't control myself around the sweets.

Needs Improvement:  I need to start exercising in the morning if I know I'm going to miss my night workout because of scheduling.  I was busy a few days this week and missed my workout completely.  I'd really like to convince myself to get up early to do it.
