Weight Loss I Can Make You Thin w/ Paul McKenna Mar 19 2008

I think the whole key here is the Conscious eating.  I actually watched this show the other night and decided to try it.  Ok, so it's only been a couple days, but I have noticed a difference and I am going to keep trying it.

It does make sense.  I don't necessarily agree with the whole 'eat what you want' aspect of it all, but if you eat SLOWLY and CONSCIOUSLY without distraction, savoring every tiny morsel of food that you eat with ultimate focus - then hello!  You aren't going to want to eat junk.  You will be very aware of what you are putting into your body.

I think that's his point.  So this way you trick the mind...that you can eat what you want without the struggle and failures of 'dieting'.

Like msjez135 mentioned regarding the junk food. I guarantee that if you get ...ummmm...let's say a large fry from Micky D's and eat each fry in three bites being sure to put the fry down after each bite, SLOWLY "savoring" each bite in total concentration -  you won't be able to finish them. For starters they aren't that appetizing in the first place and if you order them, usually they are chomped down without even thinking about it while they are still hot.  If you are eating these frys meditatively you'll more than likely be disgusted and lose the craving.

The eating till your full - meaning if you take 45 minutes to eat the same portion you normally woof down in 15 minutes but STOP BEFORE you feel like you are going to be sick with fullness; leave some food on your plate. Give it a few minutes, you will be more that satisfied.

I started doing this whole meditative eating deal and to be honest, I haven't eaten nearly as much in the last couple days that I am used to nor have I been hungry with cravings.  Again, this has only been a couple days so I can't vouch fully.  It's weird and hard to get used to...but it is making me more aware and fuller faster.  I'm going to keep trying it.  I do know that I am consuming less food and more aware of what I'm putting into my body...which can't be bad!

I guess my point is that it makes perfect sense....why not try it?

Hey Sammi!  Hello everyone!  I have been ultra slack these last few weeks.  Started the new job and I've been in training...will be for 2 more months!  Been so exhausted at the end of the day - haven't worked out much or logged on to CC!  BAD!

I also put on 2.5 pounds in this time! UGH!  This week, I started making myself get up earlier and working out at least 25 minutes in the morning, walking my dog after work and stretching/yoga exercises at night.  Doing what I can.  The gym at work is shut down for the next month due to renovations, so I haven't been able to utilize that.  Soon though.

Congrats to you Sammi on joining a gym AND on quitting smoking.  I'm also trying to quit.  Such a battle!  Cutting back on alcohol, food, smoking, and exercise!  Plus be overall more productive...it gets overwhelming!

But...I am giving it another go!

Hope everyone is doing fabulous and staying in good spirits!

Hey Girls!  I just wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing!  I've been super busy this past week wrapping up my old job and starting my new position.  Which I LOVE btw!  They even have a gym on the bottom level open 24 hours for employees at no additional cost!  AWESOME!  This is just what I needed!

I haven't taken my measurements as of yet, and need to get on the ball and do so.  TOM was here last week, and so I was trying to wait for that to finish.  I haven't dropped any more weight and have been slack on exercising the past week...but I haven't gained which is good.

I hope everyone else is doing well and staying healthy!  Have a wonderful remainder of the week!!!

Oh and Sammi...CONGRATS on your all time low!  Keep it up girl!!! Smile

Hey everyone!  I am so glad to see this thread is still in motion!  Laughing

Cat and Maria - welcome to CC!  Congrats to you both on your current losses and good luck on losing more!!!  I'm stoked to make some new friends!

Cat - Like YJK says, I wouldn't go anywhere under 1200.  I also find myself pretty close to 1200 as well on most days because my diet has changed so much. I am somewhat active myself but list my activity as sedentary, then I log additional activities onto my activity log.  As for time, I think most of us can relate to that.  I try to fit fitness in by taking the stairs instead of the elevator, park far away at the grocery store, carry bags back to the car instead of using the cart, etc.  It all adds up!  Sounds like you are already on the right track!  Good Luck!

Maria - 12 lbs in a month is quite an accomplishment.  Sounds like you are on he right track also!  You will find a ton of motivation here, so just keep up and you will do fine!   4x a week at 35-45 minutes is quite a bit of exercise.  So, you are doing great!  I am lucky to get that much in on my elliptical!  Also, you didn't gain the weight overnight, so you are not going to lose it overnight!  The best way to lose it is slowly to insure that you keep it off.

As for me...I'm super excited because I just got a new job offer!  My hours will be 11am-8pm (great since I am not a morning person!), so I will bypass the horrible Atlanta traffic AND will be able to start doing my workouts in the morning consecutively!  I sooo struggle to work out at 7 am now! So, this will be perfect!  The scale was at 173.2 this morning and I long to get into the 160's!  Seems like forever since I've seen that number!  My measurements are also this weekend...so I am looking forward to that!

Keep it up girls!  WE can do this!!!!

Hi Everyone!!!  Is it too late to join?  I have been looking for a club to join.  Found this on sammii08's posts.  Hey Sammi!!!

I started mid December at 180.  I am now down to 173.8 last weigh in which was this past Monday.  My goal is to be down to 138...but will be really happy at 145-150.

Still have room for me?

Hey everyone!  Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and aren't experiencing a case of the Mondays!  ;)

We actually had snow in Hotlanta this past weekend!  Only a couple inches that was mostly melted by this morning...but it was beautiful while it lasted!  I spend my weekend in North Georgia playing in the snow.  Got some exercise in, was great on the diet...but did consume a number of drinks...BAD, BAD!  Will have to work out a little harder this week.

Despite my number of bad beverages, I still managed to drop 2 more pounds!

Hey Geri!

Congrats on your current weight loss - that's quite an achievement!  Good for you!

I'm also new here.  Just saw your note on my other thread.  thanks for that!

My Chart for calorie intake says I need 1500.  I have been eating around 1200-1300 also.  With all the fruits and vegi's - I haven't been able to stomach much more.  But on days I work out really hard I have been eating 1400-1500 calories.

Welcome to CC!  You will find tons of support and motivation to help you here!  Congrats again for your loss and your commitment!

Congrats to you Sam!  That's awesome!  I have to do the small meal thing or else I binge and/or get tired throughout the day.  Everyone's different...glad you found something that is working for you.

My monthly friend came to visit me and I am up 3 pounds!!!  UGH! So discouraging!  I know it's water weight...I've been staying within my calorie guidelines and working out almost everyday.  I just really want to 'hurt' my scale! LOL!

Ohhhh...and I have been to 3 stores...3! looking for a damn fabric measuring tape.  Coincidentally all 3 were sold out!!!  Trying another one tomorrow on my lunch break.  Unfortunately there aren't any craft/sewing stores near my work.  The hunt continues...

Welcome Jamoselen!  Glad to see you join!  Good luck to you!

Hope everyone else is doing well and has a happy, healthy week!!!

Hey Emily G!  Hey Sharon!  Good to hear form you girls!  I've added both of you!  Let's kick butt in 2008 and lose this weight!!!

I worked out for about an hour and a half last night...and amazingly enough as sore as I was, I managed to do the elliptical for 30 minutes this morning!  Go me!  I've decided to do my Friday workouts in the morning so that Friday night I can relax, have fun, whatever.

I haven't dropped any pounds in a couple weeks - but I am also probably gaining muscle.  Going to buy a fabric tape measure today to take measurements.  I will post this weekend.  Also decided to start taking monthly photos of myself to see my progress.

I'm so excited for the new year!!!  Glad we have a nice support group going here!  Good luck girls!  We can do it!!!

Fitness buying an elliptical Jan 08 2008

I just got one from Sam's Club for $399!  So far so good!  I love it!  You can adjust the stride from 13", 15", or 18".  It has a built in fan and 10 different workouts.  I had to buy a large board to stabilize it on our fully carpeted floor...but it does a great job!  Also assembly was pretty painless.

The Proform website has closeouts on ellipticals and shipping is usually included in the price.  Nordictrack is also supposed to be really good.

If you find one you like...go to http://www.pricegrabber.com/ to make sure you are getting the best price!

You can also check Play it Again Sports or Craig's list for deals on used ellipticals.

I think that if someone is truly unhappy about a physical feature that they have then plastic surgery could be very beneficial for them. It could change their whole life creating more confidence and improving self esteem! Go for it then!

I don't think it's a good thing when people abuse it, getting multiple surgeries to make themselves look like a plastic Barbie doll...it's sad actually. There is nothing that can be done to make that person feel better about themselves. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes!

If I had to pick one thing on me - I would get a chin lift. I have a hereditary double chin...no matter how much weight I lose it will ALWAYS be there! When I am caught in a deep laugh photo it really comes out! It is not so obvious when I weigh less but always there. Even a chin lift can't fix it completely...and it's a VERY expensive procedure. Soooo...I will just learn o live with it - and lose weight! :)

*edit* I also have the 'noassatall' disease! haha! Working on those bun exercises! Wink

WoW!  Thanks so much for he useful information!!!  I just tagged this!

I have always heard that 5-6 small meals works best.  That's really hard for me...so what I do is snack throughout the day.  Fruit, natural trail mix, carrot sticks, celery, cherry tomatos, yogurt, etc. and eat smaller 'main' meals.  My problem is eating more calories in the morning, less at night.  I have never been a breakfast person!  I love dinner though!  It's tough.  Slowly converting though!

I am also not a morning person AT ALL!  I am a total night owl!  It's everything I can do to get up in the morning and make it to work on time!  Today however I forced myself to get out of bed a few minutes earlier and did 15 minutes of cardio before work. *pats self on back!* I'm going to do this for a week and then increase my early rise and morning cardio by 5 additional minutes the following week and so on.  I think gradual is best - you don't shock your body (or your mind) so much!

I trained myself to get up early before...it can be done.  Eventually you do get used to it.  It takes time though.  Increase your rise gradually - you will get used to it!

Again...thanks soooo much for this information!  That was very thoughtful of you to take the time to share this with us!

Fitness Need advice about purchasing an elliptical machine. Dec 18 2007

I also am looking for a nice durable elliptical myself for Christmas....it's the only thing on my wish list.  I could take some advice on this as well.  I have some family members throwing in...so I am looking for somehing that is in the $400-$500 range....TOPS!

I have belonged to gyms before and when I went, the elliptical is mostly what I used.    I think that I would rather get one than sign on another membership...would be more apt to use it!  I have had two knee surgerys and so this is the best piece of equipment for me to use.  Low impact.  I also have an excercise bike and some weights.  Plus I live in Atlanta and have belonged to a couple gyms.  The best time for me to go was after work (to avoid traffic!)...I stopped going because it got so crowded.  I found myself waiting on equipment and/or people waiting on me!  Very annoying!

So...I would like some advice on this as well - Recommendations Please!  I can't afford a $3200 piece of equipment!

Thanks!

I add the juice of half a lemon and tsp of honey or pur maple syrup to cold or hot water...it's delicious and nutritious!

Also, to help eliminate bloating...try adding a little bit of 100% Pure Cranberry Juice, like Knudson's or Mountain Sun.  You can find it in the health food section at the grocery.  It's expensive...but you only need to add a little to the water.  If you want to sweeten it a little, try adding a splenda.
