One excellent video : Jeanette Jenkins Hollywood Trainer...it is only 30 minutes long with two workouts to choose from. I would start out with 1-3 pound weights, and it shouldn't be too tough. There is even a pregnant woman featured, which I find to be an excellent motivator! If she can do it, so can I :) I believe a reduced calorie, healthy balanced diet combined with ab and total body exercises, combined with cardio does eradicate belly fat. It did for me. I am not flat-stomached yet, but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel now. I have a four pack that is aaaaalmost completely visible and my waist is like 26 inches something like that. I am NOT bragging just saying. It worked for me. |

I would do this every other night for a week: 2 sets of 30 walking lunges (you can walk back & forth in your living room, mine is 5 lunges each way so i go back and forth 6 times) 2 sets of 25 squats 2 sets of 25 crunches 2 sets of 25 butt lifts, holding the last one for 10 sec each set 2 sets of 10 push ups (or whatever you can do) hold plank pose or bridge for 30 sec-1 minute twice you could trim this down if you wanted, but these types of exercises will help reshape your body. you can always get a dvd workout which does all this in 20 minutes if you're in a hurry. oh, and if you decide to start doing resistance exercises you will have to eat a bit more.

Hi there, been through something similar, lost around 60 then got pregnant and gained 50 and kept around 20. I was (am) young also. Lost it, gained it again, lost it again. Nosouix is very insightful and totally right. Your body fat stands no chance against the good things you are doing! Think of it that way. Also, don't do too much at first. Whenever I fall off the wagon I try to start slow even though it is the last thing I want to do. When I'm finally fed up (literally and figuratively, lol) I want to go run 5 miles and then do yoga all in the same day, but it's too much too fast. I have to remind myself not to burn out quickly, cuz being active is something I want to learn to sustain forever. |

It was a combination of overeating and inactivity, for sure. I found (and still find, sometimes) way too much comfort in food! I think I was genuinely afraid of exercise. I believe that school made me hate exercise. I always enjoyed it until eighth grade when my coach would torment me for my glasses being crooked and for constantly pulling at my bra (which was new to me and UNCOMFORTABLE). I DESPISED THAT BITCH. I skipped gym for a whole semester to avoid the embarassment lol...I had to rediscover it as an adult and I learned to love movement, dance, weight training, yoga, running, all of it again. |

I was actually thinking on this very subject the other day. I have one child, a two year old, who does not go to day care and is at home with either me or her father all day, everyday. I was thinking what it must be like to be single when you come home at night, cuz my single, childless friends seem to have pretty full, busy lives also, but what the hell is it filled with? haha I was thinking well, I come home, change diapers, figure out why she's upset, make her something to eat, watch a movie of her choosing (well, watch it for five minutes till she finds something else we need to go do) my whole night seems to revolve around her. I love it, this is what I want because she is so amazing I'm lucky to even get to be around her let alone clean her poop. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't mind playing the Sims for hours like I used to or watching some "adult" TV. Those are things I assume my single friends can do when they wish. I think that is the thing about it, when you have kids you do not have "free" time. You have to share your time with them, it's "us" time. I don't think anyone who doesn't have kids could wrap their mind around this concept. I would probably scoff if someone said that to me 3 years ago, but it is just the plain truth. PS, My husband's entire day revolves around her and then he goes to work. I go to work all day, then my night revolves around her. When she goes to bed, I work out...LOL... Oh yes, and one more thing, I cannot take a shower before 9pm because my daughter will get excited and think she gets to take a bath if the water is running. Sometimes by that time I am EXHAUSTED and too tired to even shower. Single people bathe as they wish!!!! |

in someone's journal...i've always heard the same things you've said, that it helps alleviate cramping and improves mood, if you can actually convince yourself to do it, lol. i just hate when ideas like that get perpetuated, that we women need to lie down in a darkened room for 3 days a month... |

hi there :) all you have to do is go under tools and then under "burn meter". it will ask you questions about yourself and suggest how many calories you should eat to lose 1-2 pounds per week. about the exercise, one thing at a time, it's great you're on this site and committed to you healthy. just start walking at night or buy an easy workout dvd to get you started. when you start seeing the pounds drop you won't need any more motivation to get active! good luck with everything! |

maybe you could google some sites that tell you sizes based on measurements? i was a size 22 at 205 and a 13 at around 150-160. i think that might be cuz of my butt being so big, cuz 22 seems high to most people. perhaps you will be a size 13 at 175? don't get too obsessed with numbers tho, i no longer care what size i wear, just that i feel fit and healthy in my skin and in my clothes. |

i think shape has to be kind of "flowery" and girlie cuz hardcore fitness enthusiasts are not the only people who read it. if they talked about lifting heavy weights they would scare away most of their readers. but all that cardio talk scares me away, or used to lol...i enjoy cardio nowadays so i like the little articles saying how to do a challenging interval workout on the elliptical or treadmill...it even gives you some ideas for a playlist to listen to while you do it. i dunno, i like it. but i guess they have a responsibility to help people understand other ways to work out since they have so much exposure. |

Original Post by garfieldfreak: if i were you i would keep eating small amounts, just frequently, every 3-4 hours. i promise you will continue to lose weight, in fact you may lose more because you will stimulate your metabolism eating this way. i eat 300-400 cals five times a day and i am at my lowest weight EVER. you need to eat also because you're a teen, as the others have already said :) congratulations on your success carl! |

Original Post by spirochete: That may be, but doing yoga has made my muscles look different. When I was strictly lifting weights my body was well...bulkier. I dunno how or why but I look taller and leaner this time around. I don't see how stretching wouldn't change the way your body looks. |

Original Post by dbackerfan: hehe yes i just read that thread..i think it's awesome that you guys lift so heavy, i used to and haven't in awhile. but even convincing some women to lift *anything* is difficult. although power yoga is a good substitute. i think i was afraid of the muscular look too (my husband isn't thrilled when i look buff, even now i am too buff and all i do are calisthenics like pushups and yoga and circuit training and kickboxing). but now i am planning on getting certified as a PT so i think looking buff would be to my benefit. ultimately, you can control how "big" you get. also yoga (and pilates..ugh not my favorite) i think helps lengthen the muscles you make lifting. |

Original Post by rmgarcia: congratulations! i'm glad you can relate cuz it really does feel good to see the changes in your body. i'm sorry, but running and doing cardio all the time just will not re-shape your arms like what most people are trying to achieve, and i wish they would realize this! i love cardio too but resistance is key. way to go girl! thanks basketkase, it helps to hear a male perspective, cuz i think that's what most chicks are scared of -- not being considered attractive cuz they aren't "soft". |

| YES IT MAKES SENSE!!!! if you look at actresses, which unfortunately is most people's ideal, they have more lean body mass than they do fat. why would you want fat and not muscle? muscle burns fat. muscle burns calories. muscle is what makes you look lean instead of soft and flabby! | |||

isn't it cool to be able to eat all day long tho? i love it! haha i'm always thinking about my next meal or snack with excitement...i must sound like a dork. i think one of the keys to this whole skinny lifestyle is making sure you aren't deprived. here are some snacking ideas for ya: peanut butter with your apple smoothies south beach wraps/pizzas 1/2 turkey sandwich on double fiber bread veggies with hummus black beans with lowfat cheese and jalapenos try to have carbs AND protein with each meal/snack
any ideas you have are appreciated! i love new food. i just read about polenta on a thread, i wanna go get some now. also quinoa, never made it before. i am in love with barley. it's better for you than oatmeal even! you can make it into a salad or a soup or eat it with splenda and cinnamon. |

yo jeni :) hiya i think gi jane is right...you should eat real food lady! i used to eat just like u, in little bits and pieces, and i think that's why i wasn't succeeding like i wanted to. you should really try to eat at least 300 calories for breakfast, if possible. i read somewhere that will control your eating all day long, and i have found it to be soooo helpful. some options: two eggs, thrown in the pan, 1 slice whole grain toast and an orange. or some low sugar yogurt with like kashi cereal and a banana. those are both 300 calories and take 5 minutes to make and eat. if i remember right you're not a breakfast type of girl right? |

DON'T consider this a setback...you're just a little bit further behind what you thought you were, so of course it's a little discouraging. But you have made TONS of progress! Imagine what you bodyfat percentage was when you were at your highest weight! You singlehandedly slashed that! Now- I was 140 and 5'2 which felt like a great accomplishment (and hey it was!) but I just didn't feel like I looked my best yet. When I took measures to reduce my body fat and increse my muscle mass, my weight loss really took off! I never thought I would get under 130 but it happened, and it will if you keep on pushing, ESPECIALLY with a proper weight training regimen! I have a normal BMI now, I never thought that would happen, honestly. You are at the perfect place to start chiseling out the body you want for yourself! We short girls have it hard, we have to work twice as hard to fit into the silly categories they've built for us... |
