| Weight Loss | A question for women who lost a lot of weight... | Feb 09 2009 08:31 (UTC) |

I've lost 45-50 pounds in the past few years, and I went from a 38DD to a 34DD. My boobs are still holding strong -- except the whole sagging business. At least my husband loves them. :) |

I've had several people say that I look like Danielle Fishel (Topanga on Boy Meets World). And I guess I just have "one of those faces" because I have quite a few people ask if they know me, or tell me that I look like someone they know. |

| The Lounge | anyone listen to foreign music? | Apr 14 2008 23:41 (UTC) |

I love listening to foreign music. :) Basement Jaxx (UK) - LOVE this music; it's electronic dance music, and it always puts me in a good mood. Gipsy Kings (France) - Despite being from France, it's Spanish music (flamenco, salsa, rumba mixes). Los Aterciopelados (Colombia) - One of my favorite Latin bands! Maximo Park (UK) Najma - Born in England, but sings Indian music, which is where her family is from. Ozomatli - Okay, this band is from Los Angeles, but the music is REALLY diverse and really interesting. There's a lot of emphasis on Latin music, hip hop and rock, but there are also some jazz and reggae flairs. The Rasmus (Finland) And there are more, but I think I hit some of my highlights. :) |

The only dreams I've remembered for over a month now have been nightmares, and I've remembered them frequently (almost every night). So I know all about creepy dreams. :( |

Original Post by ktcort13: At least your pants are fitting looser! I'm not losing weight, and my pants seem to be fitting a bit tighter! I'm apparently doing something wrong, so now I guess I need to reevaluate my weight loss and exercise planning. |

| My feet got smaller, too. I used to consistently wear size 7, and now I wear size 5.5 or size 6. And speaking of shoes makes me want to go shoe shopping pretty bad! | |||

Don't go into it feeling like you will gain 15 pounds. I, for one, lost 30 pounds or so freshman year. I still allowed myself to indulge occasionally, but I ate a lot of salads (lots of veggies, little dressing, with some turkey) and fruit and limited my desserts to maybe once a week. It also helps if you have healthy foods in your dorm room (assuming you will be living in one). I ate a lot of oatmeal for breakfast and had soups and/or sandwiches for lunches pretty frequently. And I definitely didn't feel like I was wasting my "points" because the leftover points I had from not eating at the cafeteria I could spend at the little campus grocery store. And just make sure you exercise! Sign up for a class if you need that extra motivation/incentive to do it. |

I spent 5 weeks in the Dominican Republic this past summer - volunteering for half of it (up in some remote mountains), and traveling for the other half through the country. It is a BEAUTIFUL country, and it can offer a little bit of everything. Santo Domingo and Santiago are larger cities that are lively; the people there LOVE to go out dancing and having a few drinks. Plus they are both so rich in history! In Santo Domingo I had the chance to see the oldest church built in the Americas, and it is stunning. Then there's Jarabacoa, which is a town in the forested mountains that offers whitewater rafting and waterfall rappelling (which were both amazing!). And then Cabarete, which is more of a laid-back, beachy, surfer town, which was great for surfing and windsurfing. Oh man, writing about the DR makes me want to go back SO bad! |

| Young Calorie Counters | Whats the deal with no alcohol? | Mar 05 2008 06:11 (UTC) |
6 |
It may be an issue if it's "a few" glasses of wine every night, and it depends on how many is "a few." And it may also be an issue for those trying to lose weight, or even just maintain, because of all the calories in alcoholic drinks. Alcohol makes it easy to consume an awful lot of calories without really realizing it. |

| A recent event reminded me of another thing: To not have the inner-thigh part of my pants wear out and eventually be a hole. My sweatpants just did that this week, and now I don't have any sweatpants to wear to the gym! Sad. :( |

| Last time I was there I got the Chicken Tortilla Soup, which was only 270 calories for one bowl. And I thought it was filling and good! So that may be something to try. If you want a little extra with it, ask for a side of veggies (steamed veggies with Parmesan cheese is 80 calories, and steamed broccoli is also 80 calories), rice (160 calories) or the house salad (140 calories; low-fat vinaigrette dressing is 40 calories extra). So you definitely have options! | |||

I have to agree with the others.. I would recommend not drinking and smoking anymore - or at least cutting back on it so you have those cravings less often. Also, just make sure you have healthy snack alternatives to replace the fast food. If you're at home, have some cereal, oatmeal, apple (with/without peanut butter), etc. If you're out and about, maybe keep smaller snacks in your purse, like 100-calorie packs, an apple, some crackers, etc. You have options, so just make sure those other healthy options are available to you! |

| The Lounge | Getting Married At 18...Why Is It Looked Down Upon? | Feb 25 2008 01:48 (UTC) |

I'm 20 now, and I've been married for a little over 5 months now. And it is a beautiful thing. I can definitely understand the many concerns people have about young marriages.. But it works for me. And for everyone who has known me, they have agreed that it is right for me. Prior to meeting my husband, I did not especially think I would ever marry, and it is amazing at how quickly that changed. And maybe my mentality is just a bit different because I know of so many young marriages that are thriving. But regardless, I love my husband and I'm committed to this marriage. |

It is amazing how a few pounds just slip right on without getting noticed. Darn them! And my husband is very fit, so I'm trying to get in shape so I can moderately keep up with him. Haha. |

| The Lounge | Why grammar and punctuation are important.(thanks carrihound!) | Feb 08 2008 07:26 (UTC) |

| I'm in a Journalism program at a university, and a pre-requirement to get into the J-School is a grammar course; I personally think EVERY student should be required to take that course, honestly. It starts with the basics, becomes more in-depth and would greatly improve anyone's understanding of grammar and how to write. It was hilarious that our text book and workbook had grammatical errors, though! Goes to show how easily grammatical errors slip through the cracks, even when editors are paid to look for them! | |||
| The Lounge | i've had it up to here with this britney stuff!!!! | Feb 07 2008 16:56 (UTC) |

Well, unfortunately entertainment and celebrity gossip probably makes more money for media than international news. Budgets have been cut, its profits are decreasing, the number of international news bureaus are decreasing, etc.. On a news TV program, international news only earns about 14% of its airtime, while a newspaper is only 8% international news. And I read that in national U.S. surveys, international news (when ranked in a poll of what readers want out of their newspaper/news) is around 9th place, compared to the higher-ranked sports and entertainment. At least that's what I've been reading/learning about in my Journalism class lately.. And it is a shame. It's amazing how many resources and connections we have to international news, yet so many people don't utilize them or seem to care. |

1. Do you exercise regularly? I try to. I work out at least 3 times a week, but I'm shooting for 5-6 times a week. 2. Do you run regularly? I'm beginning to. I used to hate running (it was really uncomfortable and kind of painful), but I'm starting to enjoy it. I want to push myself to become better at it. 3. Have you ever been injured while running? Other than a mild cramp, no. 4. Have you been running for over 3 years? No way! I used to hate running. 5. Are you ever worried about getting hurt by someone else while running? (i.e. getting hit by a car, kidnapped..etc.) I used to run outside in a park next to the river, and I did have some concerns because the area has been known for homeless people, druggies and who-knows-what. Because of that, I stuck to daylight hours (afternoon) running on well-traveled paths that almost always had at least one other person in sight on the path. |

| Weight Loss | Are any of you going to reward your self when you reach your goal weight. And in what way? | Feb 05 2008 22:38 (UTC) |

| Shopping! I have about 15-20 pounds until I reach my (tentative) goal, and at that point I'll want some new clothes.. Hopefully I'll be able to find a pair of jeans that I love to buy. And my ultimate "reward" that I'm hoping for is to just feel comfortable and confident in my skin and in whatever I'm wearing. (Which includes wearing a swimsuit this summer!) | |||

| My hubby and I agreed on no gifts this year. We just want to spend some good quality time together, and that's the most important thing. However, we do want to make the day a little special, so I'm going to get some strawberries and chocolates as a dessert, and I'd like to make him a good breakfast or dinner. And I know he really loves Western movies, so we'll probably watch one while we eat our dessert. :) | |||

| My husband will be joining the ROTC, and then will be serving 4 years active duty in the Army after college graduation.. So I'm not affiliated with the military yet, but I will be. I'm glad that my husband's so excited and motivated, but I don't know much about military life, so it'll be a learning experience! |

Take fitness classes at your college/university; they probably offer aerobic classes, weight training, pilates, etc. That way you have a class where attendance counts, which should provide some motivation for working out. What I'm doing is taking a Pilates class, and because it's at the Rec Center, I go straight to the gym after the class and work out a little bit more (Elliptical, treadmill, etc). That gives me extra incentive to work out - if I'm already in the building, I might as well just do it! And other classes I've taken and enjoyed are: kickboxing, step aerobics and body sculpting. Also, find a work-out buddy! It's more motivating to exercise if someone is willing to go to the gym with you. Or get some work-out videos/DVDs, if you have the room where you're living. I live in a small apartment, but I still have enough room for my Billy Blank's Tae Bo videos, thankfully! As for the drinking.. You're just going to have to make a conscious effort to not drink as much, at all, or to find a lower-calorie drink. |

It also helps if you go out with a person or two who don't drink.. That way it's not "just you." Helps to have a support system in those kind of situations! |

Original Post by cellulitedelight: You should go to a Planned Parenthood. Free condoms! A nurse I saw there last time told me that you could go in there and get up to 99 condoms every day if you wanted. (Maybe different for other Planned Parenthoods, but I'm sure all of them would provide condoms.) Plus I got free birth control (pills) through them, and they were really helpful providing me with one that worked for my body. I'm a newlywed, so I needed the birth control and all that. PLUS my husband and I are in school, so paying for birth control would be an issue.. So needless to say, I'm incredibly thankful for all the help of Planned Parenthood! And I know you're getting married in a few months, so I thought I'd make sure you consider going to a Planned Parenthood! |

| The Lounge | What's your nickname? | Jan 16 2008 07:00 (UTC) |

My parents nicknamed me "Scooter" when I was a teeny, tiny girl. Instead of crawling, I preferred "scooting" on my stomach.. (Which apparently led me to ramming my head into a wall or two in my day. Awesome.) Also, my younger cousin Jenny and I used to spend almost all our time together. It got to the point that my mom was talking about us and mixed our names together without even realizing it. Jenny became Kenny, and I (Kelli) became Jelli. (And of course there are the rhymes for Kelli that are super fun, like "smelly" - my little brother loved that one.) |
