Hi everyone. It's me, Milfred. I came back to c-c after more than ten months' absence because I found myself thinking a lot about Molly and wanted to see how she was doing. When I got here I was impressed that you guys have all hung in there and are actually still active! I don't know if anyone remembers me, and it's okay if you don't; I wasn't that active. But in case you do, I wanna offer an update. H 5'7 SW 178 HW 185 CW 158 GW 140 After I stopped using C-C I didn't lose any weight for a long time. Then my boyfriend and I got bought out of our apartment and got separate apartments, and then I lost some of the weight. For the past 2 months, I've plateaued at 154 - 158. What I've been able to do is maintain a moderate diet which is not low enough in calories to get me to my goal weight. But I'm feeling a million times better now than I did then, and everybody is noticing I'm thinner. It's unmistakable. |

| yep. That's a tough one. I find that because i forgive myself, I end up eating more, or for days on end, like you. I am sure it's better to beat yourself up, as long as you don't vomit or anything.
People'll tell you to try using cinnamon to.. um, affect your blood sugar or stabilize it and reduce cravings. They'll also say try chromium, and maybe beans or sweet potatoes. All foods with chemicals said to reduce sugar cravings. I think it's malarkey. Doesn't work for me. I'll binge on beans or sweet potatoes, and chromium doesn't seem to make a damn bit of difference. Vitamin B, maybe, I've heard, or some form of it, also is said to help. I take B 50 and it doesn't make a damn difference. Just demand more from yourself and if you screw up, beat yourself up, but don't do any physical harm to yourself. |

oh I think it's baloney!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANY diet with the same restricted calories would have you losing. In other words, it's the caloric restriction, not the "special individualized plan" that makes you lose the weight. |

Call it good. Don't eat more. You might burn 1,000 calories on the job, but that doesn't mean you're burning 1,000 MORE calories than you would in that 7 hours sitting behind a desk. Get what I'm saying? You may burn just 350 calories MORE than you would sitting at a desk for 7 hours. (arbitrary guess.) |

You guys and your DDR. People on this site are crazy about DDR. So I went out and got DDR, knowing the music would suck, but I planned to use my own adjustable-speed tape player, and play tapes of my favorite music, adjusted to the tempo of the DDR steps. It doesn't work. The tempo on the damn DDR keeps changing. DDR is also very difficult, and for me to play at a level I can actually get the steps right at, I'm not getting much exercise. I'm glad you all like DDR so much. I wish I could get into it. But bleck!! Maybe I'll change my mind if I get good at it. I wish it would say more varied words of encouragement. That'd be cool. I love its words of encouragement. Do you get really good at it, so you can actually jump around and do the steps at a rate that makes you sweat? That'd make it feel a little more productive and less like a waste of time! |

I bet people are gonna tell you all sorts of CRAP, like you need to force yourself to eat. Truth is, you need ot rest and eat EXACTLY as much as you feel like eating, because when you are sick, sometimes it is beneficial for the body to starve; the body will let you know via hunger level. I hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself!! |

Wow. I forgot that I posted this. This is great. Okay. I got DDR of Craigslist for 40 bucks. The music sucks and I'm not good enough at it to break a sweat - I just miss a lot, unless it's really slow. Does it get better?! Do you always suck at it when you first get it, then when you gain skills, you can get a good workout? I was thinking I could syncronize a tape of my own music with adjustable tape speed, but the damn thing keeps changing tempos. I HATE IT!! Maybe I can sell it for a hundred bucks. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to bike. I live in San Francisco and I am terrified of getting killed. Truly. This country has no infrastructure for bikes! I have no car, and I'm not near any trails. I love to walk. It's been so cold and rainy lately. (I'm so full of excuses tonight!) I enrolled in an exercise class at the city college. That was a brilliant suggestion! Watching a movie is a brilliant suggestion, too. I have a small trampoline in my room, and I could use it while I watch TV or a movie. I'll watch something on You Tube, actually, and jump. Thanks for that suggestion! |

enzyme1- yes!! When I was thin, I was CONSTANTLY telling myself to stop eating. I was at a healthy weight, but every bite was saying goodbye to the food, like I had to accept that I couldn't ever allow myself to eat "enough." I was always saying, "Stop eating" to myself. I've been fat for 3 years, and I got fat by allowing myself to eat whatever I wanted, and it was SUCH A RELIEF. Except being fat is HELL. It's a worse hell than constantly telling myself to stop eating. |

| I feel like crap unless I go every day. It's so erratic - like my eating. It depends what I'm eating, but I've gone a week without going, though lately I go every day. I think eating a lot of fiber has the same effect as abusing laxatives - it creates dependency, and then when you can't eat all that fiber, you won't go - it'll take, like, a week before I go when I stop eating tons of vegetables, which I can't really afford all the time. | |||

YES! I know exactly what this is. Here's what you have to do. Go on a STRICT, specific diet. NO CHEATING. Every time you cheat, you will flood life into the disease. I don't know exactly what the "disease" is - I think it's undiscovered. But here's what to do. I had this; doctors couldn't TOUCH it; I cured it myself over 2 years of research and experimentation. For several months, and maybe even a year, until this disease dies: NO VINEGAR, meaning no mayonaise, most salad dressings have vinegar, some pickles have it... NO SUGAR, including fruit and even milk. You may have carbs in the form of certain grains, which you may prepare by boiling and adding oils and spices. NO ALCOHOL Those are the most important prohibitions. They seem to feed the disease. You should feel better after a week of no cheating on this. Now I'll list the other things that are less emphatically prohibited. spoiled or old food - everything you eat should be fresh. I can't really explain this, but I can theorize that maybe when food ages, bacteria or some form of microscopic life grows on it, and this stuff feeds the disease organism and makes it flourish. blue cheese - my theory is that the disease "eats" the mold in the blue cheese. all cheese Now, here's what I did. I can't "recommend" it to you because it seems so extreme, but it worked for me. I got a GOOD lactobacillus acidophilus suppliment. It took a LONG TIME AND A LOT OF MONEY TO FIND ONE THAT WORKED. The germs have to be alive in there, and it has to be JUST L. Acidophilus, NOT A MIXED CULTURE. I got "Allerdophilus" from the refrigerated section of a health food store. That seems to be the best one. It cost me about 19 dollars a bottle. I started taking 1 pill a day, which did nothing. I took 3 pills and the morning and 3 at night. That helped. My problem was so bad I ended up taking 10 pills in the morning and 10 at night. That really, really helped. It didn't give me diarrhea; it just settled my stomach and stopped the gas. I started developing mild acid reflux, but it was hugely preferable to the heinous gas. Subsequent research led me to conclude that L. Acidophilus was actually killing the disease. I also ate raw ginger. For a few minutes after eating a mouthful of the unberably hot stuff, I would feel better. I actually carried raw ginger around with me everywhere because it was the only way I could cope with the disease's symptoms. It really, really does help, potently, but not for a very long time. Still, it is better than any pharmaceutical medicine I have ever tried. (You have to really chow down on it, though, and it's rather difficult to do since it burns your mouth.) It is a MUST, because in subsequent research, I found that it actually probably kills the disease. If you want to email or message me, I'd love to communicate with you on a regular basis and try to help you through this, by the way. It would mean a lot to me to see somebody else get over this thing. I don't take anything for the problem anymore. My digestion is normal, but I generally avoid vinegar (though I do occasionally use mustard and mayonaise) and alcohol, and sort of avoid sugar, but not by any means strictly. I have soy sauce occasionally, and I eat as much fruit as I want, and I'm fine now. I killed the disease organism, whatever it was. I'll add things as I remember - for example, YOU MUST TAKE THE ACIDOPHILUS ON AN EMPTY STOMACH!! This is absolutely imperative. AVOID SOY SAUCE AND NUTRITIONAL YEAST!! (I forgot about that one). And good god, avoid Bragg's liquid aminos. Ok. So I had this regimen, and I did it a few times. I took the Acidophilus every day, no matter what. If I screwed up and ate so I wasn't on an empty stomach, I took it anyway, but you are wasting pills if you do that. I did the ginger every day, sometimes with acidophilus, sometimes on an empty stomach, sometimes a full one. I ended up drinking TONS of water, because in order to eat the ginger, I wouldn't be able to handle it unless I alternated bites of ginger with sips of cold water. I'm sure drinking TONS of water was an indespensible piece of the cure. So here's the regimen: Wake up. DONT EAT. Immediately, take acidophilus (in an amount you have to customize - be careful at first. It may hurt you to take as much as I did; I don't know.) You may eat ginger. DONT TAKE ANY VITAMINS right now. I don't know what specific vitamins to avoid, but for me, B Complex seemed to aggrivate it. Just do without them until you're better. WAIT AT LEAST 1 HOUR (I would wait 2 if I could) BEFORE EATING AFTER YOU TAKE THE ACIDOPHILUS. When you eat, eat something like boiled quinoa with some olive oil and salt and turmeric, or something like that. I could list 200 foods that'd be okay and 200 that wouldn't. I don't know what the rhyme or reason is; I never came to understand it. I just experimented on myself and found foods that were ok and foods that were not. I could draw some generalizations, but a lot of it was a true mystery. Are you vegetarian? I would avoid tomatoes for now, but again, I'm not sure about that. I'd avoid corn for sure, though. Your diet is the thing that will kill this. The pills are pointless without the diet. You must starve the disease to death, eating things it can't use. Once it diminishes, you will be able to feel it flourish if you drink a glass of orange juice. You will notice subtler changes once it stops being SO BIG. OK. Last thing I'm gonna say is, DO NOT EAT IN THE EVENING because YOU MUST TAKE THE ACIDOPHILUS ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. Depending on how much you've eaten, I'd leave 4 hours before taking that night-time dose. This is a basic outline of some things I did. I would also wake up in the middle of the night (set my alarm) to take pills on an empty stomach. I also used lots of herbs that may have helped - cinnamon, cloves, I can't remember offhand... Also, I did run a complex course of powdered herbs and teas for a couple of weeks at a time. I'll tell you about that too, but it's rather extremely involved. The acidophilus on an empty stomach (work up to a humungous dose, but make sure it won't hurt you) and the diet should work WONDERS. |

Hi Camami. My advice to you would be to upload a picture (of you or your pet) - it makes it feel a lot more personal when you're showing a piece of you, be it your face, your cat, your painting, whatever... an image we can associate with your name. Then get active in a forum like Molly's Diet Rants or Going for Gold or one of those. They are tight, small communities. Log EVERYTHING you eat, NO MATTER WHAT. Get a food scale. You might get one at a thrift store. I got mine at a garage sale for a buck. Invest 20 if you have to. It's worth it. Once you start logging your food, you inevitably begin to learn to make better choices. It's almost like magic. See what other people on here are eating (the successful ones, like mollymouser, who is a big inspiration to me). Read the forum posts, post actively. INVOLVE YOURSELF IN THE ONLINE COMMUNITY! I think that's step one. Welcome to Calorie Count! I've lost 8 LBS since December 14th, 2007, when I joined. I'm 5;7 1/2 and 170 LBS. My goal is 140 or 134. WE CAN DO IT!! |
|||
| Motivation | what is your goal? | Jan 09 2008 02:45 (UTC) |
|
| My goal is, from my current 170, (SW 178, Dec 14, 07) to reach 140 LBS (which looks very, very skinny, somehow, on my 5'7 and a half inch medium frame with large breasts) and fit into my skinniest jeans, which are size 4, which I wore when I was 140LBS. I also intend to run a 5k, and be able to suspend my weight easily so that I can enjoy being close to my boyfriend(and not crush him, as he complains I do, so I keep having so change positions, annoyingly; I didn't have that problem when I was thin - it was so much physically easier to be close to him. I could put my weight on him without crushing him.) I want to be able to be carried and not feel awkward. I want to sit on my friends' laps (in occasional situations like on the bus or in a crowded cafe) without feeling like I'm crushing them. I want to walk up the huge hills of San Francisco with ease. I want to get on the bus and feel everybody staring at me because I am so attractive. I want to hike through the wilderness without the handicap of fatigue. I want to wear my old size 7 JC Penny dress (before vanity sizing). I want to be able to wear attractive shoes and not kill my feet because I'm so heavy I can't wear anything but comfy sneakers. | |||
| Vegetarian | HELP! Too much fat in my vegan diet! | Jan 07 2008 22:49 (UTC) |
2 |
| That's the thing about being vegan. I used to be vegan, and I was FAT. The only proteins you can get come with either loads of fat or loads of carbs. If you plan it out just right, you can get enough protein without being fat, but it leaves you no wiggle room. I got very frustrated, though eating meat and animal products perpetuates the torture of animals, and gave up being vegan. | |||

|||
| Maintaining | Do I REALLY burn as many calories as my burn meter says? | Jan 07 2008 05:07 (UTC) |
9 |
| I think the burn meter is inaccurate when you add exercise to it because it doesn't subtract the number of calories you'd be burning at rest from the number of calories you burn during exercise. If you burn 60 calories for an hour at rest, but you exercise for that hour and burn 400, I think it thinks you've burned 460 when you've really burned 400.b | |||

why do people get angry when you mention ddr? I'm trying to buy it on CL, so I can get it cheaply, but I just pissed off the seller by trying to be a cheapskate and haggle the price way down. I don't know if I'll like it or not; I am afraid the music will defeat the fun for me, but I had this bright idea I'd make tapes of music I love and play them on my hand-held tape player with adjustable speed and turn the dial to adjust the speed to the correct tempo. Tennis is a great idea. I know I like tennis. I will look into where to play tennis around here for free, and getting a cheap raquet CL. |
