Weight Loss Atkins Nov 21 2009

The reason for people not being able to maintain the weight loss from the diet is that the diet promotes 'ketone' production, which at high levels can be toxic (research this. You will find a lot of interesting things behind it). This is also why there is so much controversy over the Atkins diet. People are also discouraged from eating carbohydrates, which is unhealthy (for the reason that it produces ketones in excess for energy). Carbohydrates are our main energy source. Glucose from carbohydrate is the primary energy source for the brain and normal body functions.

I do not approve of or support this diet because it's a fad diet. It doesn't promote Variety, moderation, balance, and adequacy as a whole. I say just choose to lead an active and healthy lifestyle with nutrient dense foods and moderate exercise. =) Watch out for fad diets!

(by the way, the atkins diet is suitable in some cases; say you have a disease of some sort where you are recommended to have low amounts of carbohydrate. But for most of us, it is not a healthy choice.)

"So now, then I was going through some stuff and I needed to talk to him about something, and he abruptly told me that he needed to not chat"

Sounds like it was pretty important to you but you've not mentioned what it was in your post but he turned on a dime at whatever it was.  Did you hurt him?  Was it too intimate or something to do with an ex?  Did it imply you were doing too much planning with him already figuring into those plans?  All of these things will send a guy running.

Here is a hugely helpful hint (hopefully) from what I've learned over the years.  Never, ever force a situation that isn't meant to be.  You may get it and you may be pretty proud of yourself for that at the time but it is amazing how twisted and distructive those situations can get.  Worse so when the guy is really "nice" and doesn't want to hurt you so doesn't have the guts to really tell you how he feels and walk away.

Wait and see what happens.  If it is meant to be he'll be back but, tempting as it may be NEVER, EVER BEG! Let him decide that he misses the contact from you.  Don't cold shoulder him but let him know that things are slightly different.  Let him text you first and if/when he does get in touch, don't go overboard again.  Always hold something back.

The one thing that is age related is the desire to rush.  You don't have to tell him everything about yourself in the first few months:)  Reveal in layers and remember that, if you are thinking about this one guy that you'd love to settle down with forever...you need something to talk about in 40 years time.  Don't rush so much:)

Oh, no, it was nothing at all like that. :)

It was just something I'd talked to him about before and he told me I could always come to him about it. So that's why it was weird. But then he told me it had nothing to do with it anyway. He has just been spending less time on his studies and if he doesn't turn back around, his career will be over. I can understand it all now...I think I just needed to think about it all, because what happened just caused a lot of confusion and misunderstanding.

He texted me last night...
"I have a couple friends who want to meet with us for breakfast on that sunday. They would really like to meet you. I take it you still want to come, right? :)"

and I told him of course and he seemed happy about it and said it'll be a super fun day.

maybe I just misunderstood the whole thing. I think maybe it was just that we were spending too much time talking. period. so it was overconsuming our time that should be spent studying. but I am still confused, and I probably will be until him and I talk about it in person (if we do talk about it.) but right now, it looks like things are going to be okay.

Thank you all for your advice. It helped immensely.

Have a great week!

I think his reasons are justified also...and I am trying so hard not to let my emotions rule the situation, because I know how much he wants to be a doctor. He has it all going for him, and I don't want to be the reason he loses everything...you know?

I do wish I wasn't so sad, but I will heal. I just let my heart go too soon without realizing it (oops), so that's why it hurts so bad.

The relationship is going from being close to being casual; and that's super hard.

Thank you again.

The thing is that he was as persistent as me; and this was just one thing I needed help with...but it was just out of nowhere; like he snapped out of it and was just sort of like "whoa, what am I doing?"

it's not easy to explain, but thanks for your input.

Foods Iron sources? Nov 07 2009
15:13 (UTC)
1

There are 2 types of iron,

1. heme - available only in animal protein (the most bioavailable, meaning it is absorbed and used better by body cells)

2. non heme - available in both animal and plant foods (if you rely solely on plant products, you may not be absorbing enough iron.)

Remember that vitamin C enhances both heme and nonheme iron absorption, so having plenty of "c" in your diet is important as well.

Good luck

Weight Loss Could I be at my ideal weight? Nov 02 2009

VERY possible. My nutrition professor was talking one day about a guy who ran every day and had a well balanced diet and exercise life and looked as if he was obese; yet he was extremely healthy and well all around/. Everyone is different. We tend to rely too much on what advertisement makes us think we are supposed to look like. Just make sure you are staying healthy. That's all that REALLY matters. :)

Weight Loss 3 pounds away from a healthy BMI but.. Oct 27 2009

remember that BMI does not measure your body composition (the amount of fat and lean protein in your body). It is only based on a ratio of your weight in kg and height in meters, and is not the best tool to use for those with a greater amount of muscle mass. Have you ever had a BIA done? (Bioelectrical impedance analysis). It's a great tool for everyone, and it works so well, because it sends a very small electrical current throughout your body (since water is a good conductor of electricity and muscle is associated with lots of water) and therefore it gets a good idea +/- an error of 2-3% of body fat present. I recomend this method personally. :) Good luck with everything! You never know; you may be healthy based on your genes, ethnicity, and other factors. I hope I helped.

Weight Loss Low Carb? Oct 27 2009

Yes Fantasy, you are CORRECT! Carbohydrates are converted into glucose which is vital for our brains and everyday body functions.

You can always trim the fat off meat or just buy lean meats to reduce the saturated fat intake.

Keep in mind that mono and polyunsaturated fats are great for you.

You should be getting between 45-65% of your calories from carbs, 20-35% from fat, and 12-20% should come from protein. :) Just keep your diet moderate, adequate, balanced, and varied and you will be fine. ;)

Weight Loss Nothing's Happening Oct 02 2009
13:12 (UTC)

well if what you are saying is true, that you are at that low of a weight for your height and still have excess, I'd say muscle mass is most likely low, and body fat is higher *what they call 'skinnyfat'*. You should be eating no less than 1700 calories at your age and for your height, but that is minimum. I agree with gi-jane. completely. you should be eating about 2200 calories and try doing strengthening exercises instead of just walking. I hope it helps. Good luck!

The Lounge Spanking? Sep 21 2009

I wasn't spanked; I was whipped with a belt, and always had bruises, therefore I disagree with spanking or whipping children. I would probably just tap them on the hand with a moderate (not hard) force if they said anything or did something bad. I think that if someone leaves a bruise, it's too hard and that they should rethink their actions and use some self control.

edit:

with me, even when I got the worst spankings it was for something small and stupid. I rarely misbehaved

Weight Loss CAN NOT lose weight..is it my Yaz? Sep 17 2009

when taking oral contraceptives, usually you are told that it can cause an increase in appetite because of the increase in hormones and such...if you are getting more hungry than you used to and eat more snacks than you should, try snacking on the more nutrient dense stuff and less energy dense stuff. Try eating high volume, high fiber foods that fill you up more and keep you full longer, without making you spend too many calories during non-meal times.

Foods Sugar Intake aaaarrgghhh!!!!! Sep 17 2009
21:51 (UTC)

just keep your REFINED sugars under 25 g. Fruits are great, and they have lots of fiber, so it's more likely that you will maintain the energy your body gets from the glucose it produces. You're only more likely to crash when eating refined sugars without some sort of protein and fiber with it. Our bodies are amazing and weird things

Weight Loss Most likely to have the fewest calories? May 29 2009
16:46 (UTC)

If it were me, I'd be choosing between the hot or cold cereal and the vegetarian omelet WITHOUT CHEESE though. I'd most likely choose the omelet. Remember to order no cheese if you want to be light on the calories, because even a vegetarian omelet can rack up to like 800 calories or more. They pile on all kinds of cheese to make it taste good. Not to mention, they put a lot of oil in it. I know that I Hop has a thing where you can get the healthier omelet that is made out of egg beaters so it's like 300-400 calories. At this place, you could maybe ask if they could and "make your own" omelete I guess...but if you want to play it safe, go for the oatmeal, and have them put all the added stuff on the side. :) GOOD LUCK

Health & Support Dizzy lightheadedness!! What does it mean, why wont it stop? Apr 09 2009

from what I've heard, lots of times, women who are active and healthier than others who don't get regular exercise or eat properly are actually more likely to develop dizzy spells caused by a sudden drop in blood sugar. It's because our bodies take less energy trying to pump blood through our hearts since we already have a high RMR (Resting metabolic rate). This is why a lot of times you may experience dizzy spells upon standing from a sitting or lying possition. It happens to me a lot. :) I hope I helped. I just read something about this in SHAPE magazine.
