I work out at curves 5 times a week without much other exercise in between and I try to eat around 1300 cals a day. My metabolism has not slowed down and my body is not in starvation mode. I'm 5'3, 127 lbs though... I reckon 1800 cals will be too much. You will lose very slowing probably, but in the end you should listen to your own body and make use of CC's tools. hehe |

I eat fish coz it's healthy and low in calories etc etc... But I'm sick of it. I don't eat red meat so I have chicken with lunch and fish for supper every day. It's getting really monotonous :( |

| Weight Loss | Does Anyone Here Ever Get Hungry????? | Sep 21 2008 11:05 (UTC) |

Damn girl I'm hungry every day. The other day I read a headline of a magazine with Julianne Moore on the cover which said: "I'm always hungry, I think most actresses are." I eat 1300 cals per day and it's always like I'm just waiting for the next meal. It's a crappy way to live, but once I've lost enough weight, I'll slowly increase my calories to maintain so living this way is just temporary. It helps to bulk up your meals with lots of veggies and eat regular, low GI meals. |

| Weight Loss | Breakfast activates hunger? | Sep 18 2008 19:44 (UTC) |

It's really important to kick-start your metabolism for the day by eating breakfast so I wouldn't really advise postponing it. Rather eat a mid-morning snack and try to consume most of your calories in by lunchtime to keep you sustained instead of eating only breakfast and then bingeing coz you're ravenous by lunctime. |

I am 16 y/o, 5'3, 126 lbs. My goal is to eat 1300. No less than 1250 and no more than 1350. On days when I decide to treat myself, I won't go over my BMR so I'll still lose weight. I have been eating like this for 2 1/2 mnths and have lost 12 lbs so far. |

I can get a lil obsessive sometimes... Like today I logged a small slice of iceberg lettuce XD Only 1 calorie, ya know. But yesterday I had a home-made brownie from a small shop in the center of my town in South Africa and I just logged a random fudge brownie, simply as an indication, no fuss. |

Omg I read about the most ridiculous diet last night. It's called the Johnson's Alternate Day diet or something... you have "up-days" and "down-days". On the first day you eat as much of anything that you want (basically binge) then the next day, you eat between 300 and 500 calories! Is the guy who came up with this insane?! Then you continue alternating your days and somehow expect to lose weight, despite completely screwing up your metabolism. DO NOT EVER DO IT. I refuse to. |

I've never been significantly overweight, but throughout the first half of this year I've been eating a lot of junk. I also learned to cook this year so you can imagine how crazy I've been going with all the fatty, delicious ingredients! I picked up 8 kgs over the past year, which is a large amount of weight for such a short time, and I don't want it to get out of hand. Therefore I am now using my new culinary skills to make wholesome dishes. I'm passionate about making healthy versions of unhealthy favourites. |

| Weight Loss | Losing weight and being social | Sep 14 2008 13:45 (UTC) |

I also have this problem. I mean, why should everything in life revolve around food?! Go out, have dinner. Go to the movies, eat popcorn. Get together with friends, have tea and pancakes. WTF!! Drives me insane... Everytime I go to my friends' houses, we have a BBQ (South Africans LOVE to BBQ) and I always end up eating all the chips or sweets before the meal even begins. So now for the next couple of weeks I've decided not to go out, just to get back on track. Anti-social, I know. From now on, if my friends want to see me, they must come over to MY house and I will cook for them ^_^ |

I eat USN meal replacement protein bars as a mid-afternoon snack sometimes, which are covered in chocolate but have a low amount of fat and are very nutritious. They are 260 cals and come in vanilla ice cream or lemon cheesecake flavour. Very yummy, NO guilt coz they're actually good for you! |

| Fitness | Curves - hey is this a good workout??? | Sep 11 2008 10:48 (UTC) |

I'm 16 years old, 5'3 127 lbs and I've been working out at Curves for 2 1/2 months. So far I've lost 10 lbs which really surprised me because I was also extremely skeptical in the beginning as to whether or not it would work. I've always been into free weights and more advanced circuit training, but I started hating the place where I was working out and there were no other gyms in my area so I joined curves. I've never really been overweight, but my goal is to have a good body, not to simply lose weight. I lost the 10 lbs just as fast as I would in the regular gym and also have muscle tone, which leads me to believe that diet is the most important thing. As long as you stay active (I burn just under 300 calories per workout) and maintain a calorie deficit, you will get the results you want. |

I have loads of frozen vegetables in the freezer which only need to be steamed for 5mins to accompany all the frozen hake fillets I have stocked up. I have loads of these cheap cup noodles for days when I come home from a party and I'm starving but can't eat late at night. The noodles are only 60 calories for the cup! I wouldn't be surprised if it was really made of cardboard... I also have plenty of chicken breasts and piles of packets of wheat-free pasta. |

| Foods | Does Activia work? | Sep 10 2008 20:54 (UTC) |

Yoghurt contains 0 dietary fibre actually. What activia does help with though, is flatulence (a member of my family uses activia for this). If you're looking for fibre I suggest bran cereal for breakfast and include lots of fruit and veg in your diet. Water also helps with digestion. |

Open the cereal box the night before... Or put the cereal in the bowl the night before and then just add milk the next day. XD It sounds to me like your roomie is actually being very selfish and inconsiderate towards you so tell him/her to deal with the consequences of having such an irregular schedule. |

| Weight Loss | Keeping you confort food around the house ? Will you binge if you do? | Sep 10 2008 20:28 (UTC) |
|
I'm not able to do this at all. I can't have just 1 cookie or 2 blocks of chocolate, that just doesn't satisfy me. Whenever I have treats in the house I end up eating the whole pack so I just stay away from it. Once in a while when I really feel like having something, I'll plan something small and incorporate it into my calorie 'budget' for the day, so that I don't impulsively binge and maintain control over my diet. |

I think if your friends really were true friends, they would be more supportive and show respect for your new lifestyle. You are your own person so you don't have to let other people's lack of ambition stand in the way of your success. |

| Weight Loss | Dream Binging | Sep 10 2008 13:50 (UTC) |

I keep a dream journal and I dream about food almost every night. I always dream about bingeing on carbs or high-calorie things. Often it's toast with jam and cheese (I never even ate this regularly before I started losing weight) and m&m's is a common theme (m&m's are my favourite though). It's annoying and makes me crave it the next day. |

Original Post by allyferr: I don't drink whatsoever, but I have the same problem after I've eaten a big or satisfying meal. If I eat a single bowl of food e.g. a pasta dish instead of several small courses e.g. a sandwich and salad, I'll want another course and start craving pudding. And if I just have a small cheat, I start thinking that I've ruined my diet for the day anyway and binge uncontrollably. I can't just have one biscuit, I always eat the whole pack. And if I don't reward myself within 1 month, I'll eat everything in sight, even if I don't like it which makes me gain half the weight I lost for that month. GRRRRRRRRRR!!! >.< Days without bingeing: 4 |
