| Pregnancy & Parenting | Cloth diapering? | Sep 22 2009 14:50 (UTC) |

My amazing friend gifted me with 2 premium sized prefolds, 4 newborn prefolds (using as doublers or laying under her butt during diaper changes, haha), 5 fitteds, a snappi, an AIO, 3 covers, 2 pockets, 3 inserts, and 4 hemp doublers. I have been washing them with a free and clear detergent and some baking soda in warm wash and thankfully the weather has been nice enough to dry outside! So far the pockets are my favorite so I'll be getting more when funds allow. |

I'm not entirely sure what kinds I'll be getting yet, my friend just told me she is sending me a few different kinds to get me started. I'm assuming there will be AIO, pockets, etc. I will be washing them myself, no diaper service comes this far (20 minutes) out of the city. Thankfully I have a washer and dryer in my apartment otherwise cloth would be impossible I think! :) |

Original Post by bier: Thank you!! I also looked into gDiapers and what held me back was the cost of the inserts. We haven't started cloth yet, a friend is giving me some gently used diapers in all styles... I know she said pockets and all in ones. When we settle on what works best for Pearl we'll stock up on more, she's really helping me out, it seems like the start up for cloth can be pricey! |

Oh my goodness, congrats to all of you. I am not pregnant, but I had my April 2009 baby so this is so surreal to see April due dates already! I don't know why though, my LO is 5 months so what am I expecting? Haha. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | When should i have a baby? | Aug 16 2009 15:10 (UTC) |

I have to laugh at this, it's funny that when dogs wake you up in the middle of the night there is a "good reason", babies cry for a reason, too.... babies can't tell you what is wrong, so they cry and let you figure it out. And I think you get plenty of exercise having a baby to look after, especially once they're mobile. To the OP, I would wait if I were in your position. I just had my first at 27 and still need to finish school. My husband and I are trying to juggle schedules to keep our daughter out of daycare, it's rewarding but trying on a relationship... everything changes and if you don't have a solid foundation there I would think things would be a lot worse. Enjoy being together right now, when things are less hectic think about bringing another life into the world. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | how do you get your babies to sleep? | Aug 15 2009 02:29 (UTC) |

I HAVE to rock Pearl until she's out cold, if I try putting her down drowsy her eyes pop open and she rolls onto her belly and cries every time without fail! I don't mind, though... she's not going to let me rock her to sleep forever. :) |

We go for a well baby visit (and shots, eek!) on Monday and I'm going to ask about giving her a cold carrot to nom on, my mom swears by it but I'm too nervous since Pearl isn't on solids yet. I can now SEE the tooth about to come through! Poor baby. |

All mine did was cause me to lose my mucus plug and have some painful cramping. I ended up being induced the day before my due date, had her at just past midnight on my due date. |

Thanks Vanessa! Yeah she's not really a drooler and now it's so bad I have had a bib on her 24/7. We were in the grocery store earlier and she kept spitting out her pacifier and shoving her bib in her mouth and gnawing on it. Earlier today I went to make a bottle and had her in the swing, I came back and she was bent over chewing on the side of the swing! She is for sure in some pain. :( No fever yet, though. Today was a bit better than yesterday, she actually took a 30 minute and a 45 minute nap. Yesterday she had zero naps. She tossed and turned ALL night, I had her in bed with me (my husband works nights now) and I kept waking up because she was whimpering in her sleep. Poor little peanut. Cold teethers are working well, paci in the freezer for a few minutes is working. Distractions are working somewhat... we took a long bath together this afternoon and she was all smiles until we got out. My mom and SIL keep telling me it's "too early" for her to be teething and it must be something else. I read somewhere online that it can start around 3 months, so I'm trusting my mommy instincts, especially since she is showing all the signs. |

Original Post by diningerx4: Whenever you have a spare minute. Sex doesn't have to be a night time, in the bed activity. I love co-sleeping. I fall asleep with my baby in the bed with me and my husband will occasionally move her to the crib, then bring her back when he leaves for work at 3 am. She also naps in my bed so I can nap, too. She sleeps so much better in our bed, I think because it smells like us. She also loves to hold hands or just brush her hand over one of us while she falls asleep. Pearl is allowed in our bed for as long as she wants to be there. I see nothing weird about co-sleeping, it feels like what is right. I don't think cave people were putting their baby in it's own space to sleep. :) |

The "back to sleep" campaign has been very successful in my opinion, SIDS deaths have dropped 50%. That being said, though.... there is no much you can do if you have a tummy sleeper. Babies tend to get their way. :) |

No, but I should have!! It's so gross to me that people are out there thinking perverted thoughts about pregnant women, it was the one time in my life that I actually loved my body and it wasn't a "I'm so hot" feeling at all. I know everyone is attracted to different things and all... but I guess people feel safe making nasty comments when it's just on the internet. Your avi picture is cracking me up! Look at all that hair! Pearl has Bill Murray hair right now, the whole baby mullet thing. |

Well, statistically couples who are married longer before having a baby have a better chance of staying together. My pediatrician is also a psychologist and she was telling us at our newborn visit that the first year of our daughter's life would be a very challenging time in our relationship. Like it or not pretty much everything WILL change after having a baby, no matter how much you promise your spouse it won't-- it is going to. You go from being the most important person in each other's lives to being a distant #2. That all being said we now have a 10.5 week old daughter and we are just figuring it all out enough to be in a comfortable routine (for now). I love my husband in a totally different way than I did before, but we are both stressed and pressed for sleep so we are a little shorter with one another. I make it a point to never go to sleep angry with him and to let go of the small things. Any help he can give me I need to appreciate even if that means he's not doing things the way I want them done. But yes... baby fever is INTENSE! |

Original Post by vanessa1031: Crap!!! My husband STILL gets them occasionally! He was one of the "lucky" few that it carried on into adulthood for him. We don't co-sleep with the baby at night because of this, he has literally pushed me out of our bed during a night terror once. Luckily in the 4+ years that we've been sleeping in the same bed I can count on one hand how many night terrors he's had. Another thing to ask my pedi. |

Thanks vanessa! She has just recently started drooling so much that she can soak the front of her onesie in an hour so she has been wearing a bib (and hates it!), so maybe she is cutting teeth already. She was just at a well baby visit last Monday and they checked her all over. I didn't mention the screaming thing because it had only happened once at that point and I dismissed it as an "I'm overtired and I don't know what to do" meltdown. We bring her back early in July for 2 more vaccinations so I will certainly bring it up then if I need to. I don't think it's hunger pain because she won't go for my finger when it happens and she is on formula so she stays satisfied for at least 3 hours (usually 4-5 at night) between bottles. She does sleep with her binky and whenever I can get her to calm down when this happens I give her 1/2 a dose of gas drops and smear the other 1/2 of the does on her binky and she looks SO funny... like it's the best thing ever or something. aaetheri, LOL... I agree!!! I delivered on a packed night in L&D so my nurse was out of the room and it was just my husband and I for most of my labor. The nurse came back in at one point, looked between my legs and started laughing, pointing, and telling my husband to look... Pearl's head was visible and she was moving like she was shaking her head "no" trying to work herself out of me. Not really all that funny to me when I had to let my body "labor down" with contractions and I wasn't allowed to push when I wanted to!! nat1968, thank you!! I don't know! It's really hard to get her to burp but I always always make sure I at least get one good one out of her after every feeding. There have been mornings when I will get her out of the crib and she burps in my face, haha. Her gas doesn't seem to bother her as much as it did when she was brand brand new... she would scream bloody murder until you got a burp out of her until about 4 weeks old. |

Six weeks no sexin' was mandatory for me, but I am now at just about 8.5 weeks and haven't had the guts for PP sex yet! :) Cellulite, how many weeks are you? My doctor's good old standby was "drink a huge glass of water and lay on your left side". It's REALLY easy to get dehydrated during pregnancy even if you'e drinking a ton of water. Of course you should trust those new motherly instincts though and get any and all little pains checked if you think you need to. |

I never would've spent the money ($50ish!) but a good friend heard my complaints enough and bought me a pregnancy pillow for Xmas. It's from Boppy and it's curved to have a place to put it in between your knees, a spot to rest your bump, and a part to hug to you. I was ALWAYS a stomach sleeper so sleeping on my side was hard to get used to at first, too. My husband is always right up against my back so that prevents me from rolling onto my back. I hope you get some relief! I am 32 weeks on Friday and I have had a horrible time sleeping more than a few hours since around 16-17 weeks. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | How soon did you suspect you were pregnant? | Feb 10 2009 14:06 (UTC) |

I tested and got a (faint) positive at just 9 days post ovulation, I tested again at 11 days post ovulation and had a dark positive right away. I tested in the first place because I kept getting quick little dizzy spells at work, my breasts were sore, and I wasn't interested in food at all. Some women don't get a positive result until days after they miss their period. If you keep testing and keep getting negatives, I would request a blood test. |

The only thing that helped me in the 1st trimester was mint tea. If I drank a cup about 15-20 minutes before attempting to eat and then another cup about 10 minutes after eating I was ok. Ginger didn't really do anything for me. If you try it make sure you get mint/peppermint tea, not green tea with mint, green tea is a big no no in pregnancy! |
