I love running in the rain- I wear a baseball cap to keep the water out of my eyes and a light weight jacket. I love the feeling of the cool fresh rain and then getting home and jumping under a wonderful hot shower! |

| Recipes | Family wants casseroles... | Jul 14 2008 11:07 (UTC) |

My Mum is the queen of low cal cassaroles... they are so delish and warming too. Here my fav! chop up a really good amount of veggies into large chunks (onion, carrots, zuchhini, peppers, tomato,), peel and half two garlic cloves in a light spray of olive oil, sautee the garlic and onion until they just begin to caramelize (be careful not to get to dark- otherwise it's bitter) add veggies and sautee lightly- so that they are slightly caramelized too. season lightly with a bit of salt (not too much) Pop Veggies into casserole dish. Chop chicken breast into nice size chunks (she uses 3 breasts for 4 people)- Add chicken and stock to Veggies and mix. add some pepper corns and a bayleaf... some parsely... put lid onto pot and pop in the oven at 180 for 40min (you need to stir from time to time)... you can serve the noodles, rice, potatoes, grain seperately--- or add them into the stew to cook together! It's so yummy!

I have a variety of things i bring to things like that... here are some suggestions. since you mentioned pasta salad- i guess you are looking for savory? Otherwise I have some sweet as well. Greek Salad made from cucumber, tomato, bell peppers, olives and a little feta cheese (I crumble the feta into really smallish pieces so I use less- and I put a lot of veggies into it) Bean Salad made from kidney beans, tomato, bell pepper and sometimes corn in a really sharp balsamic vinaigrette veggies and dip: a huge bowl of sliced veggies (carrots, bell peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, kohlrabi, cucumbers, radishes) and a yoghurt dip (non-fat plain yoghurt spiced up with chives and parsely, salt and pepper, paprika, and a tad lemon juice) |

| Foods | Thoughts on canned food? | Jul 14 2008 10:43 (UTC) |
|
no not really... I try to cook my own beans etc as often as possible... it's pretty easy actually- but quite time consuming and since i work 100% and have a tight schedule- i do tend to use canned beans and corn during the week. I prefer frozen peas though. just check the can when purchaising- and only buy them tinned in water with no added sugar and salt.

| Foods | did you know smoothies are bad for you? | Jul 14 2008 10:34 (UTC) |
3 |
I think that it's all moderation- if you have bought smoothies every day then they really aren't good for you. It really depends whats put in them (honey- milk, bananas...) and how much you drink of it... And if you are talking about store bought smoothies then I agree as far as to say- yes they aren't as beneficial for you as you might think... you can make your own and these are like sunshine in a glass to me:-) But I love bend some fruit and make a smoothie... Blend together some berries with a bit of plain non-fat yoghurt and you have yourself a very healthy dessert.... add some wheatgerm and a bit of fresh pressed orange juice... and you have a great snack!... the possibilities are endless!

| Weight Loss | Help! Having Surgery Today! | Jul 11 2008 14:51 (UTC) |
|
Hi there! First up- I hope your surgery goes well. Is it an outpatient procedure? I suggest you don't think too much about trying to reach the minimum amount of cals today- just eat what you can and what you feel like after. I think your first priority should be to take care of yourself and to be comfortable... just listen to what your body says it needs. Oh and yes- do drink plenty of fluids! best of luck- thinking of you! b |

you could pack a healthy sandwich or salad or small picnic type lunch and go to a nearby park?... the walk would be a bit of excersise and then you could enjoy the outdoors and sun and really tank energy for the afternoon slogger session :-) That is if the area you work in has a park or somewhere like that nearby... |

that totally reminds me of the "Friends" episode where Rachel asks Phoebe to come jog with her- and is then embarassed because Phoebe runs like a kid... it's so funny and every time I see that episode I want to go out and be as carefree and high spirited as Phoebe is.
Anyway that having been said- I power walk / jog alternately (and in the boring fashion... with a buddy) but your new training scheme sounds like so much fun! You are FABULOUS! |

I confirm what Starcross says- it's protein... Fat does not have that consistancy. But is a clear gelateounous substance... It's similar if you make a beef stock- you also get a greyish /white glumpy stuff that you need to spoon off the top of the liquid... it's the protein which is setting.

I am a huge tea fan!!! But I also love, Irish Breakfast, Scottish Breakfast, Assam, Ceylon and Darjeiling Apple Cinnoman Spice, Peppermint, Camomile, Camomile and Vanilla, Linden, Verveine, White Tea and Jasmine, Roibus and Chai... I loathe anything that tastes of chemicals or unnatural- like the fruit infusions (eg. Berry tea, Mango tea...) and for some reason I really hate Earl and Lady Grey Teas. |
