I dunno. I'm really disappointed in Spitzer. But I am pretty sure that this level of scandal would not have automatically resulted in resignation, let alone the threat of criminal charges, in any Western country except the U.S.

His whole candidacy was about cleaning up NYS and meanwhile he was praciticing exactly what he was preaching against. How do you trust someone to do what they promised when they don't even hold themselves to those standards? Besides, he may be in jail before the end of his term would have happened (because money laundering and transporting a woman across state lines for his purpose are all illegal).
Not only that, but new yorkers paid for that trip (though not the woman herself). He was there on state business. He was trying to go after Bruno for something similar which completely backfired in his face. Pot meet kettle.

Not to mention that this also means that the state police that guard him at all times have been turning a blind eye to his extracaricular activities.

This probably isn't the thread for this since it's OT though somewhat related to a past topic along similar lines.

To the OP, you seem to be pro Hillary and believe in general women are less apt to be involved in scandals like this. My question for you is, how do you support someone who seems okay with her husband cheating on her as long as he helps with her political aspirations? I would have far more respect for her if she had dumped him. It's not like Lewinsky was the only woman. I would think women who stay with men like this would be despised by feminists. I'm far from a feminist but I have the self respect to never stay with a guy who cheated/s on me.

It's why I hate when people start going on how this is a victimless crime. I'm sure Spitzer's wife and children feel that way. I hope she leaves him and takes him for all he's worth.

I really have no idea how I stand on the war.  The fact is that we were attacked by terrists in 2001.  It was the worst attack on American soil in all history (at least that is what I heard).  Of course we were going to go to war.  But the war has gone on too long and is now driving us into a recession.

Problem is that Iraq wasn't directly the one responsible for it. They went after Iraq because they knew a "war on terrorism" is nothing more than marketing propaganda and needed a phsyical target. A war on terrorism is as effective as a war on drugs.

I just got a lovely sushi platter this past weekend. Two pieces of tuna, two pieces of salmon, two pieces of yellow tail, and one other thing I'm not sure what it was. Plus it came with a california roll that had no mayo in it.

The only bad part was the entire bottle of hot sake I drank but it was so good.

Why do people keep having to ask what Obama's plans are? Look at his freaking website. I don't have to be a supporter of his to make myself better informed on what his stances are. There's a freaking downloadable PDF you can read that goes issue by issue through his stances and what he wants to do. To try to claim there's nothing behind his "Change" campaign is just showing ignorance and unwillingness to do any research. Sadly, at least half his supporters probably haven't looked over the thing even though in the end, only a fraction of his ideas for change will ever go through.

Either way, I'll be much happier if Obama or McCain ends up with the presidency over Clinton. At this point anything can seem like a step up from Bush. The one thing I really care about is a fiscal conservative government and Bush is bleeding money out of the country right now. Romney wouldn't have been much better. Obama isn't much less of a socialist than Hillary though and that frame of mind tends to lead to an overspending government. Sadly, the one extremely liberal preference I have is not supported or completely avoided by making it a state issue by each candidate.

Do you remember the 2004 presidential election?

Very much so. But I think you meant the 2000 election when Bush won the electoral votes and Gore won the popular vote. Kerry lost both electoral and popular and honestly, the guy deserved to because he was an absolute goon. Of course, I didn't nominate him in the first place because I'm not a registered democrat.
Either way, showing popular vote numbers means nothing with the current system since we don't use that as the method to elect. As I said, there are plenty of people that don't vote because they know their vote means nothing one way or another. They ignore the fact that any local positions up for election at the same time actually matters a lot more to them.

How are electorial votes set in place based on state population any different than if you let the popular vote decide? And I mean that no matter how the state votes, your vote should matter. As it stands, if you're a minority democrat or republican in an extremely red or blue state, your vote doesn't matter. I even know a lot of democrats who don't bother voting because they know New York will go with the democratic candidate. If there was no state level winner gets all, a popular vote gives more incentive for each person to use their right to vote and gets rid of this swing state nonsense that should not exist in the first place.

Fitness Best "Alternate" Workout Ever!!! Mar 04 2008

Having just gotten Rock Band I find drumming to be a decent basic excercise. The first few times my leg would get really sore from the base drum but I read up on ways to avoid that. It's not a substitute but for days I can't stop at the gym, it's a good way to burn some extra calories. Now I just need to buy rubber pads so it's not so loud to avoid annoying our neighbors at night.

I was at 151.2 this morning. Oddly enough I've probably been eating more lately though I wasn't under eating before. However, I started doing physical therapy for my shoulder so I'm still doing a very small work out on days I don't usually go to the gym which might account for the faster loosing. I just started totm so I'm guessing I'm going to sit at this weight for the rest of the week.

Also, I started buying stuff like Luna bars over my Special K bars. There's more calories but there's a lot more nutritional value to all those calories.

Not really sure on smallest size. I'd guess maybe 6 but this was many years ago. Probably around 130 pounds. I mean, this is like middle school. I had my entire growth spurt in 4th grade and from then on it was slowly about getting wider & wider. Even though I started out pretty active, I was quickly hampered by a very uncomfortable size D chest when I was 13.

5'6"
Start: size 12 & 170 pounds.
Now: size 8 & 152 pounds.

By homemade style do you mean from scratch? I'd just add up all the different ingredients and sauces to figure it out. It's much more accurate than using estimated calories from a site and hoping they're using the same amount of each ingredient.

It seems you're pretty much looking for justification to keep drinking. Regardless of a desire to loose or maintain a certain weight, drinking so much is not a healthy lifestyle and by admitting you used to drink over 36 beers in a single night on a regular basis, I have to wonder the state of your liver. I don't think anyone's advice will be heard by you with your current frame of mind as no matter how healthy you eat and how many calories you burn a day, all that alcohol still goes through your liver regardless of the sugar/carbs/calories in it.

I've dropped 17 pounds and not totally cut out drinking. Why not just limit yourself to drinking once every few weeks? I also usually stick to miller lite since it's one of the lowest calorie beers out there. This past weekend I had 7 while playing a card game and the next time I'll let myself drink near that much is St Patrick's Day.

The way you word it, a good night seems to mean that's the least you drink. I'd be worried how many calories you're downing on a bad night. Still, it's really a matter of how often you're doing this.

You know, it feels really good after you've been at a plateau for several weeks to start dropping the weight again. I'm down about 2 pounds this week after having only lost about 2 pounds the last 3 weeks. Plus I'm now in size 8 pants and medium tops fit me perfectly. Time to take out some of the clothes I had gotten too large for and rotate them back into my wardrobe.

It's really not that hard to dye your own hair and quite inexpensive. I had mine done by a professional only 2 times. The 2nd time it destroyed the highlighted hair. So I started doing it myself at the age of 14. I can dye my own hair ten times over for what a single professional dye job cost. And I've done all sorts of things. For about 3 years I was dying the underneath black and the top light auburn. But it seems everyone does that these days so I stopped. I've got blonde dye at home but I'm not sure what exactly I want to do yet. It's actually amazing how healthy your hair feels when you add color to it. Unfortunately, lightening it is often pretty harsh on it.

I don't really understand why women are so obsessed with their looks, why does it really matter?

So I take it you wear the same exact outfit every day? Do you dress blindfolded each morning? Some people just enjoy changing more than their clothes every now and then.

I assume everyone here gets haircuts every now and then and once in awhile changes their style?

Well, dying my own hair is a hell of a lot cheaper than paying the $35 for a haircut (yes, I can get cheaper cuts but I've learned that you get what you pay for) every few months.

Weight Loss gaining weight while quitting smoking? Feb 19 2008
15:21 (UTC)
30

I've always understood that generally the weight gain people have after quitting smoking is because they replace their habit with more food. Especially people who smoke a pack a day. Many replace that time they would spend smoking by eating something. I would think if you not allow yourself that and instead go with chewing gum, you shouldn't have that much a difficulty. If you're at 1200 calories, you should still be burning around 1800 calories with little effort. The weight loss may be slower but you won't suddenly start gaining without that extra 200 calories burned from smoking.

The Lounge How much sleep do you get every night? Feb 19 2008

I have bad sleeping habits. I'll allow myself anywhere from 4-12 hrs of sleep. Usually between 4-6 on weekdays and around 12 on weekends. I don't fall asleep during the day but I generally end up crashing from only getting 4 hrs a night resulting in those 12 hr days. I know it's not good but it still has never stopped me from staying awake till 1 am or later most weeknights. When I attempt to force myself to fall asleep earlier, I end up laying in bed for an hour or more before finally falling asleep.

Weight Loss Does anyone else feel like counting calories is hurting not helping? Feb 19 2008

I think it really depends on your personality. I find if I don't count calories I'll actually be prone to not eat enough. Before I found this site, I was probably only allowing myself around 900 calories a day. When I started putting in the numbers, I realized how little I was letting myself eat. Sometimes I won't enter in what I ate until the end of the day and realize I have to eat some more. Other days I think I've had way too many calories and am actually surprised to find myself maybe 400 calories over my calorie goal even when I over assume my portion sizes.

I don't bother with the "upbeat" aspect to my music. I listen to mostly metal these days and there's few cheerful songs. I've got slower stuff like The Gathering and heavier stuff like Turisas plus bands somewhere in between like Volbeat, Nightwish, & Ayreon. Soon will be adding the new Mercenary & Amorphis albums. Or if I just want some really fast music to keep me going, Cellador is a great choice.

Volbeat's cover of I Only Wanna Be With You is one of the few upbeat songs I could say I have on my playlist.
Foods Have you tried whipped cream cheese? Feb 14 2008

It's really the same in calories but because it's whipped there's more air per tb compared to regular cream cheese.

True, but it feels like you're eating more, and the texture is improved! Imagine eating a handful of corn kernels in the Pop Secret bag and compare that to eating a bag of popped popcorn. Same calories, but which would you choose?

I guess I'd have to say I'm weird and I actually enjoy chewing on the unpopped kernels when I eat popcorn. But I do agree that the whipped cream cheese has a nicer consistency. I can go either way but for now, I'm trying to keep cream cheese (and especially bagels) out of my diet. I only have them every now and then when I have to get up at 4 am for work and have a 12 hr day in the field so I know I'll burn off the calories.
