Health & Support Are these panic attacks? May 10 2009

Thanks for all you responses.

angelaimes: My thyroid went out when I was about 11 years old. My sister had taken me in to see the doctor becouse my hips were hurting me so much. THe ball and joint were flat together and not rounded like they were suppose to be. That is when they found out my thyroid was bad. Looking back at pictures I can tell I was around 9 when it first started going but was almost 12 before anyone cought it.

gi-jane I have had my heart tested a couple times before and everything has come back normal. But then they never have tested it at night when I was sleeping. I go in soon again so I will talk to the doc about it.

littleshellys I have had my blood sugar tested just recently. Everything is fine there. I eat supper around 5:30 then maybe a light snack if anything a little latter. I try not to eat becouse of the attacks, I know I will be eating in the middle of the night. I usually try to go to bed around 10:00 so usually by 11:00 the attack comes. I have thought about sleep apnea. I had my husband stay up and watch me sleep. He said he could not tell if i quit breathing for a while or not. I really don't think that is what it is since it only happens within the first hour or so of falling asleep, then I am fine the rest of the night.

Last night I ate way too much before bed but din't have an attack. I will try eating supper latter and see if that helps it any. Then talk to the doc when I go in at the end of this week.

I use to drink alot of milk and eat a lot of yogurt. After I had my gallbladder out last year I can no longer diegest dairy. I get really bloated and my stomach hurts me. The gastoenologist told me to try yogurt again, after I quite eating it for a couple months. The same thing happend. Your body can just change like that.

Thank you for your fast reply. I really don't have a thyroid gland anymore. I had an ultrasound done last year and on one side ( don't remember, right or left) you could hardley see the gland and could not on the other side. So I am hypo. My body does not produce much if any T3 T4, I get it all from meds.

I thought about sleeping pills but didn't want to depend on them. I just want to get through this without taking drugs to help me sleep. Maybe i will have to have a light snack around 5ish and then eat supper after I get done coaching my sons soccer games around7:30.

I have noticed too that if I am up late, like midnight that I will start to have them attacks too, with out being alseep. Did they tell you why the thyroid does that? I think maybe if my test this week are still off I will call an endocrinologist. My doctor suggested it but I just have never called one.

Health & Support problems after gall bladder surgery Mar 12 2009

Thanks for your responses. It helps knowing others out there go through the same thing. I have been playing around with my diet the last couple days. If I cut the fat down and eat small meals I seem to do a lot better. At least I don't look 6 months pregnant. My doctor never said that my diet would have to change once I had my gall bladder taken out. I wish he would have. I have been eating like I did when my gall bladder was acting up and things seem fine for now. Maybe I'll lose the last 5-7 pounds this way,Wink.

Thanks for your reply. I have just started taking some digestive enzymes and that seems to help quit a bit. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Thanks for the response. I do take a calcuim, mag. zinc supplement with everymeal and I started drinking rice milk which is high in calcium but non dairy and calcium enriched V8. The last thing I want is to to be low in calcium. I do eat a very high fiber diet. Some days would be close to 100 grams. I drink around a gallon or more of water a day too. I was thinking it had to do with dairy becouse i could actually go to the bathroom without trouble after I had stopped. I mean, 2 to 3 times a day! Which is really unheard of for me. That is why I thought it had to do with dairy. Not to mention the daily bloating is gone. I am now thinking I may have 2 triggers for it. The worse being the hormonal one. I have not found anything that helps with the constipation though. Even with all that fiber and water, and I do exercise. Even laxitives do not help. I only take them when I haven't been able to go in like 3 days. But those don't give much if any relief.  This is the main problem with me. I feel so run down and tired and cranky when the constipation is acting up.

Thank you again for your response.

Thursday weigh in

Current weight: 151

Last weigh in: not sure, it's been a while.

Horray for me: I went through hunting season without gaining any weight. I have also maintained my current weight for 6 months. Not really what I wanted to do but I will take it. Considering it could have gone the other way.

Needs Improvement: My workouts have become very lax the last couple of months. I have not pushed myself at all.

Every so often I go through these slumps though. I will get out of it sometime and kick butt again. Right now is just some down time. At least I have not gained. That is what I am focusing on right now. Not gaining through Christmas and the New Year.

Progress this week: down 3 from last week

Hooray for me I have not worked out all week and I am down 3 from last week. I have been doing very well with stress eating and hope it stays that way.

Needs Improvment: Need to start working out again.

My husband did end up losing his job and then Saturday at 1:30 in the morning, my husband his brother and their cousin had a roll over accident on their way hunting. Thankfully no one was hurt bad. My sisters tests came back cancer free. They are not real sure what caused the spots but it is not cancer. Then find out they found spots on my sister in laws liver. Thankfully that too came back cancer free. It has been one thing after another this month. I am just going to concentrate on not gaining until after the holidays and then get back into this. I will stay weigh in but not going to push it until after the first on the year.

a_mckh, congrats on the 120's. that has to feel just great.

progress this week: up 2 from last week

Hooray for me: nothing to put here this week

Needs Improvement: Ate so bad this week and have not worked out.

My heart has just not been in it this week. A couple days ago one of my sisters found out she has spots on her lungs and they think it may be cancer. She is only 37 years old and does not smoke at all. To say the least it through everyone for a loop. Then tomorrow my husband might lose his job. So you can see why I have been overeating. Everything still feels like a bad dream. I am waiting to wake up from it but I'm not.

Good luck to everyone. Be thankfull for your health everyday.

I love the fat free stuff. I think it taste good, I guess I'm one of the weird ones. I do mix it with berries though and that is soooo good.  I add 1\2 cup berries with 1\2 cup cottage cheese. I eat that everyday, sometimes twice a day.

Current weight: 151 ARRRGGHHH

Progress: What's that? Up again 1 pound

Hooray for me: I don't feel like I can put anything here. This hold that my body has on 150-151 is getting OLD.

Needs Improvment: Pick a area. I am just so mad at myself right now.

a_mckh, I know what you mean too about body image. I still feel fat most of the time and my family thinks I am crazy. Like I'm making it up or something. They don't believe me, that I feel that way. My husband gets sick of it too becouse I still see myself 100 pounds heavier. It is a work in progress, slow progress.

luckiest, you are so close to your goal. I am so happy for you. How are you losing this steady this close to your goal weight? Got any advice for me? I need some right about now.

I have been where you are. My periods the last 6 months go anywhere from 25-40 days. I tend to get cranky around that time, but a lot of people do. I have found a solution for me in the last 2 months. I was looking for a way to change my diet to lose the last unwanted 5-8 pounds. I increased my protein a lot. I now eat like 35%-40% protein. I was really surprised to see that my mood swings and cravings went away,POOF. I was just looking to get to my goal weight but found something so much better.  I really thought I was going out of my mind. I was short with everyone and I felt so bad for my kids. They didn't understand and I didn't understand it either. I don't know if it would help you at all but maybe you would want to try it. I find if I keep my diet around 35-40% protein,40-45% carbs and about 20% fat my mood is leval through out the day and I am just happier overall. I just can't say enough on how much better I feel. I hope you find something that works for you. I know what you are going through and how bad it makes you feel. It is not fun being cranky all the time and not knowing why. Let me know if you find something that works for you.

Thanks Barbara, yes it is a current pic.  I know I still see myself as overweight and don't know if that would change with the scale. Probably not but I would like to at least find out. I was just thinking that maybe at some point your body just says "this is where you are going to be" and that's that.

Barbara, I have thought about the fact that this may be what is healthy for me. But there is the part of me that no longer wants to be considered overweight. I have lost 102 pounds, I have come so far and just want the normal weight so bad.

Thursday weigh in

Current weight: 150

Progress: lost 1 pound (back to start weight)

Hooray for me: I finally made it back to my start weight. I have been working hard for it and it has worked. Now all I need is to see the 140's. Well, not just see them, be them.

Needs Improvement: I did eat some sugar this week. I was trying very hard to stay away from it this week. I had a small amount of chocolate. Not bad but more than I wanted.

Lauren, I get that too. " You don't need to lose any more", "You're going to blow away in a strong wind". If I didn't need to lose anymore my stomach would be flat and my thighs would not jiggle so much. I have plenty of fat on me to get rid of yet. It is nice to hear the comments but they're not true. I know the number I want to get too and I will it will just take me a while, I think. How did you get down under the 5 pound mark? WOW. That number has eluded (sorry not sure of spelling) me for  long long time. You must be so happy, I am so happy for you.

Good Job to everyone this week. We all did a good job. Hopefully next week will be as good.

cricketro05, Our bodies must be about the same, weigh loss wise. I do the same thing. I can be stuck for months on end at one weight then all of a sudden, bam, there goes 5 pounds almost overnight. I have been stuck where I am for months now so I am hopeing that the scale will start to move soon. I only have 5-7 pounds to go so hopefully this will be the last time I will have to go through this. But yes, these last 5 pounds are horrible. I will not give up. I will prove to myself that I can fight through anything in my life. This is who I am now, a fighter not a quiter!! That is what we all are. We have come so far already, we just need to fight for it.

Well, Aunt Flow finally showed her face. So thankfully some of the water weight has gone away.

Current Weight:151

Progress:down 2 pounds from last week

Hooray for me:I have been so good this week. I even had a wedding this last weekend and here I am down 2 pounds from last week. No late night snacking,no snacking in between meals. I am so proud of the work I did this week. I lifted for 90 minutes this week and have been doing very well on my cardio.

Needs Improvment:  I am still up a total of 3 pounds from my lowest(148). So I need to get back there.

I have been lifting weights so I know that has something to do with the weight gain but I am fighting to get it back down. I think I may have PCOS so I have changed my diet to include lower GI foods. My mood swings are way down and so are my cravings. I don't even want sweets, which is saying something. I LOVE sweets but now I can take them or leave them. Hopefully I can see the 140's again next week, or at least 150. I know I can do this.

You probably don't want to hear this but... it took me about 3 months when I first started to see any results on the scale. I have hypothyroid though and that could explain some of it. I was doing 100 minutes on the treadmill and walking a lot outside and it still took me that long. I was so ready to give up but my husband just kept telling me to stick with it. I am sooooo glad I listened to him. I have lost just over 100 pounds. You can do this just give your body some time. I agree with turquoise67, there are going to be many bumps on your way to your goal. You just need to push through them. Remember slow and steady.

Health & Support Question about PCOS Oct 08 2008
15:39 (UTC)

Thanks again guys. I have been slowly lowering my carbs over the last couple days and i feel better. My energy leval is not as high as it use to be but my mood swings are way way down and I don't feel as hungry. I am aiming for about 20% fat,40%protein and 40%carbs. This seems to be a good place for me at the moment.  I will get some ideas about low GI meals. I have been thinking lately that I am insulin resistant. I cannot have my oatmeal anymore due to the fact that about 2 hours after I eat I get real shaky and am more hungry the rest of the day. I guess you can have insulin resistance from PCOS and from being hypothyroid. I have a double wammy there. Over the last 2.5+ years I have lost just over 100 pounds and I work out almost everyday so I think I can control some of it that way.

There is a lot of info out there and is can get confusing with everything. But I will keep working on it and get an appointment with my doc and see what he says. It just helps hearing from real people that are going through it.

First I want to say congrats on how far you have come. Second, I understand where you are coming from. I have been backsliding these last couple weeks. My low (for one day) was 148, today I woke up at 156. I need to dig back into this and get back where I want to be,145. Remember that it is easier to lose the little weight you have put on now then to wait until it is alot more weight and 3 times as hard. I am going to add you as a buddy, you can add me if you like too. We can kick each other in the butt when we need it. I know I need it right now. I hope you do find the motivation you need. Good Luck.
