Weight Loss Stretch marks Sep 01 2009

Hey, I thought I'd share my story with you, when I was 15 something bad happened to me and at the time I was suffering from anorexia, i was under weight but it wasn't deadly serious, then in the space of 3 years I went from being 112, which for my height 5'8 was underweight to being 230 pounds...which is a lot to put on in a short space of time, but it was my way of trying to deal with what happened to me. I got stretch marks badly upon my arms, on the top bit on the sides mainly...but they've faded a lot and they're difficult to see unless you look closely. I used to HATE them and reuse to wear strappy tops or anything that would show them off. Now I've made peace with my body, through treating it right and losing weight. I realised in the process that the marks I have whether stretch marks or scars make me who I am and I see that my body tells a story. I refuse to see my stretch marks as ugly, they're just a part of my journey. Also there is not 1 person i know whether overwheight or skinny who doesn't have a blemish/scar/stretch mark on their body. I think it's so easy to get caught up in a society that expects perfection when there is no such thing.

As for it stopping you being in a relationship with a man, then this is to do with your self esteem and not your body. Until you really start to love you then your not going to be able to be in a relationship with anyone. value yourself, make peace with your body and realise that your a catch for any man. Seriously, men love women's bodies whatever form they take on, and most importantly he should be into you as a person as well.

I hope this helps you...

Ok, first off I think your concentrating FAR too much on your weight. Friends that have known you for years are not going to judge you for putting on weight...and if they do then they're clearly not good friends.

I think you need to realise 1) your sooooo much more then what you weigh, and people never look at you/criticise you as much as you do yourself

2) whatever anyone tells you on here it's your mental attitude you need to change. skulking around the house isn't going to make you happy

If you had 1 year to live i bet 30 pounds would hardly bother you. so look at your life like that-you only havw 1 to live so you need to make the most of it.

also you could buy some clothes that accentuate and highlight your new clothes in a flattering way and make you look amazing!

it's silly isn't it...but it's so frustrating that we never know what we really look like-different mirrors reflect us differently! and then even in pictures i never look the same! it depends on the angle etc...i just wish i could see what people see when they look at me!

Eugh! never mind...I'm just going to have to deal with never truly knowing!

As a student obviously the whole not-drinking doesn't come into it..if your out your drinking. I found it difficult in the beginning but I succesfuly managed to lose a lot of weight whilst still enjoying the student lifestyle.

I allow myself one big night out a week where I can drink and I stick too vodka and diet coke...the rest of the week i drink nothing-you don't need alcohol to have fun. I am also strict with myself when it comes to food, if im starving after my night out i don't opt for takeaway, i wait till i get home-drink water and if im still hungry ill have 2 slices of toast.

I guess it's just everything in moderation-if you allow for alcohol calories into your calorie count for the day. besides i think moderation is the key to success...the more we forbid certain things the more tempting they seem.

As well as diet coke and vodka i sometimes drink wine and soda water...

interesting post! I can tell I've lost weight if i look at old and new pics, and because my clothes have gotten bigger. Sometimes I think it's more noticeable then others. BUT I've had 3 people in the last week comment that i've lost 'a lot of weight'...which is strange...i think i have but i don't think it's that ntoiceable. i get confused. anyway i'm just happy that i've lost weight and im actually enjoying it and love working out n feeling good, im so much more pro-active then i used to be!

I weighed 10lbs heavier after christmas day, it's pretty much all come off now once I began eating normally again!

Weight Loss Skinny B**** Book Dec 31 2008

I read the book about a year and a half ago, and yes whilst the tone was infuriating at points, it did actually have some enlightening information. I'm already a vegetarian, I have been all my life, so I had no problem reading the section on meat, I have to admit it was still disturbing though!

I think that most meat eaters prefer not to dwell on the concept that what they're eating was once an animal, I mean bacon isn't called 'insides of a pig' is it...?

I could totally condone people eating meat if they were prepared to raise the animal and kill them humanely themselves...so much more natural and less hypocritical...

I would just like to suggest for any women out there, especially with bas PMS soy milk is a godsend, it helps with PMS symptoms and is much less fattening then drinking cows milk!

I'm going to reinforce what Gi-Jane and Lynnhaslost have said about seeing someone like a counsellor to help you, and i'm also coming from this on a similar level as you because I too have been sexually assaulted, i'm not going to go into detials, because i don't feel it's appropriate, but the best thing to do is to go and see someone who specalises in victims of sexual assault. you need to realise that sexual assault is about power, more then it is about lust, and that it's ok to be attractive no matter what size you are, just because people are attractive it doesnt give them the right to be sexually assaulted. You deserve to see yourself as a beautiful women, and achieve your goal weight and not let what happened to you stop this. After my experience I decided that I was not going to be a victim, and that I would prove to everyone that I could come out of the situation better then ever, it's a hard thing to do though....if you want to send a message to me about your issues then please feel free too...I still somtimes struggle with male attention directed at me, so i do understand.

Weight Loss Just saw a picture of myself..... Nov 23 2008

Please don't get upset...firstly i agree with vron082. You have to love and appreciate your beautiful self FIRST and FOREMOST before you change it. Beauty comes in all different shapes and sizes, and I agree with vron082 start making a list of things you admire and like about yourself, both physical and personality-wise. DO NOT GIVE UP, and please don't get depressed. The number of times I've gotten upset over awful pics is ridiculous!

Use this as a positive thing, and forget that pic, instead imagine yourself looking how you'd like to look, keep focused on that and it'll help you!

mommakitty-maybe your idea works for some people, but i know it would just depress and de-motivate me if i carried a not so flattering pic around with me, instead i stuck a headless body of a girl in a bikini next to the mirror, and I affirm that I have that body everyday...it's something which I aim for.

mine seems stupid...i guess im lucky that I can wear short skirts n stuff cos my legs have always been toned and slim...wearing a bikini again is deff motivation...but more then that I want to wear a backless dress or boob tube as im not so keen on my back area! i know that's probably bizarre!

Weight Loss Binge in positive light.... Nov 02 2008
23:29 (UTC)
2

Just wanted to clear up the fact that I definitely was not saying that I take joy in binge eating, I've always struggled with it, but I decided I wasn't going to rant or get worked up...because I think the guilt trip thing serves as purpose...it makes binge eating into this whole guilt trip thing. So if I react differently and say, actually it wasn't the end of the world and it'll probably mean i boost my metabolism and will definitely not mean I put weight on then actually it really is not the end of the world.

If I looked at it from a negative point of view I'd want to do it again as a form of self punishment, because that is what binge eating is, it's self punishment inflicted on the body! So I'm not going to make myself feel guilty from it.

Weight Loss How come I feel BETTER after eating a giant cookie and chocolate bar?? Oct 26 2008

You know what? Don't feel guilty at all, it's not like as you described it, you were shoving it down your throat. Evidently your body wanted some chocolate and you satisfied that craving...and it was not a binge. Maybe though, your regime is too strict, do you allow yourself treats? because if you don't then your body will end up craving and you could end up eating more the next time. I say add more treats to your diet like one cookie and one chocolate bar a week or something??

Weight Loss i haven;t felt so bad in a long time... Oct 22 2008

Thank you all so much for your words of inspiration....especially kaybug and sick_of_fattie_me, I'm glad you both understand how I felt last night!

I feel a lot more optimistic this morning, and I realise that there's no quick solution to this, you've just got to keep working at it, and as you said Kaybug, it'll be so much more rewarding then just wishing for a flatter tummy!

Thanks guys!

Weight Loss How many llbs to lose before you notice the difference??? Sep 02 2008

I guess from everyone answers the answer to my question is that EVERYONE is different and unique and that weightloss shows less on those who start out weighing more then say losing 5lbs on a 117lb body or something?

Anyway it made me realise tha I've gone past the hard bit of losing weight where no one notices and now people are commenting, so the weight i lose now is showing more then those pounds i dropped before. All in all it has inspired me to keep on losing! yay!

thanks everyone who replied :-) it has been much appreciated and good luck with your own weightloss journeys!

Weight Loss how do anorexics get so skinny? Sep 02 2008
12:53 (UTC)

that's really interesting illisa, it has drawn light on my own eating problems when I was fifteen, I was half a stone under weight and therefore under my BMI. This was deliberate, I would eat 800 cals a day and burn off 200 running. So I guess I was anorexic for a while...I never really thought of myself as being labeled with it, although i knew I had a problem.

thanks, that's actually really really helpful!

i think it must be so hard if your 250lbs and you lose 30lbs n you feel that you cant see the differnce. for me I feel like people are starting to really notice my weightloss now, so if i lose more and more it'll keep showing!
