Original Post by _lymabean_: Haha, that's great. So do I. Ate them all the time as a kid. Pickles with peanut butter, ketchup, and mustard in a sandwich. Delicious. I think I just liked the salt/vinegar combo, to be honest. That's really all you get out of it, tastewise. |

Original Post by meggymouse: Totally bull. No disrespect to you - just whoever 'they' are. Do you have ANY idea what 8 birth control pills at once does to someone? It's not pretty or pleasant, trust me. I've drank much more than one baby bottle equivilant of soy milk in a day with no ill effects. I'm also on birth control and have had no complications arise from consuming both. The whole 'soy is bad!' business is nonsense, imo. Eat a balanced diet (which can include soy) and you won't have problems. Eat nothing but processed soy crap and you'll be screwed health-wise. |

Only one of the women got down to a size 00 and it was a very snug fit. The size 4 was actually what fit her best. So realistically she only went down 12 -> 4. EDIT: Wait...are we talking American sizes or British because now that I'm rereading what was said I'm not sure. |

I don't eat any dairy, any meat, anything derived from animals, eggs, or honey. I also do not wear leather, wool, etc. I switched to digital cameras because camera film is not vegan. I've done...a lot of things. My MP3 player has a text file option which I keep this* list in so I can check ingredients in the supermarket or when offered something by someone else (I usually just decline all food, though. It's less awkward.). I cook with raw cane sugar and stevia so I don't run into the problem of processed sugar being processed with bone char. I don't eat most candies because 1. I don't like candy and 2. Most of it contains gelatin. I can't have gel capsule versions of medicine because they all seem to contain gelatin as well. I have I think 3 vegan cookbooks. I also use vegweb.com. I cook nearly all my own meals. If I eat out I usually order a side dish (fruit, for example) or I go to an Asian restaurant because they tend to have more vegetable dishes. I snack on apples, nuts, bananas, dried fruit, crackers, carrots, and whatever else is low-cal and on hand. I avoid telling strangers that I am vegan and basically refuse to 'debate' my veganism with friends because I am not a patient person and soon tire over stupid comments like "But plants are alive too!" and "You'll never get enough protein.". However, I do keep on hand my average protein intake (between 40 and 60 grams a day) as well as calcium, B12, etc. both so that I know I'm remaining healthy, but also to shut up people who claim I am not due to being vegan. Hope that helps. I've been vegan for only 3 years and I'm sure someone who has been so for longer could be of more use. |

I thought it was great. It's nice to see a show dedicated to showing all the negatives to those extreme diets constantly being shoved at girls. I didn't get why they used the 'raw food' diet in the doc, though. It was 1200 cal a day - not extreme at all. It's just reaching 1200 cal a day on raw food may be difficult for some people (if they don't know how to go about it). And I thought both the girls looked great before and the one who didn't start to develop an ED looked good after. The other woman looked simply starved and unhealthy to me in the after pic, though. |

I seriously missed yogurt right after going vegan and the only soy yogurt that I liked was called Wildwoods or something to that effect. Not enough people bought it though, so my grocery store stopped carrying it. After a while the cravings just went away. I do without now.
EDIT: Found it, here. I usually bought the unsweetened and added my own flavoring - cut down on calories and gave me more variety. |

| Soy milk. Partly because I'm vegan, but I drank it even before I was just because cow's milk has NEVER tasted good to me. I always opted for water or juice when at friend's houses if offered it. Strange considering my brother loved the stuff. | |||

I personally opt to darken my face or leave it out entirely on this site. I have regular pictures on Myspace and Facebook, though. I suppose it's just that in the back of my head I'm afraid someone from this site would bump into me on the street and be like, "Oh yeah, you used to be pretty fat, right?". I dunno. Everyone has their own little issues. I'm happy with a little privacy on here. I do have pictures of my body on here, though - so people can have a decent idea of what body type I have. I have no problem with that - isn't too likely someone's going to recognize me from the stuff I have up. |

| Fitness | Workout Playlist? | Jan 03 2008 00:20 (UTC) |

I listen to rock music and fast electro. Or just energetic music in general. Any country, any language. I am not picky. My favorites so far are: Foo Fighters (American, rock), Gackt (Japanese, rock), Kinky (Mexican, no idea. quite a mix), CSS (Brazilian, electro-rock), Cherry Poppin' Daddies (American, swing revival), Everclear (American, rock), The Killers (American, rock), Goldfrapp (British, electro), Ladytron (British, electro), OK GO (American, rock), Reel Big Fish (American, ska), Vitalic (French? Techno). I'm not one to really care too much about lyrics when all I want to do is get moving - it's just a bit harder to find fast music in another language because most of the reviews aren't in English. So, if you aren't too picky about lyrics making sense during your workout those might be good for you too. :) If you want specific songs I could give ya those too but it would take a bit longer to write out. EDIT: Oh, I should mention that CSS at least tends to make some potentially offensive English songs. Depends on what bothers you, I suppose. |

I find the thought of eating another creature's flesh and muscle to be HIGHLY unappetizing. It's not 'food' in my book. While occasionally there comes a time when I have to kill something*, I would never consider eating it. *Example: My cat sliced open the belly of a vole that was living in our house. The poor creatures insides were coming out and it was shaking like crazy. I didn't have the nerve at the time to put it out of its misery, but I wish I did. It shouldn't have had to suffer like that for so long. |

The only thing I ever get from people who haven't seen me in a long time is: "Well you certainly look healthy!". That's a plus, I know what they mean and it doesn't drag my past weight issues out into the open. Family is more awkward: "So how many have you lost so far? Uh-huh. How long do you think you'll keep it off?" "If you become anorexic I WILL be checking you into a clinic whether you like it or not." "I don't know why you have such trouble with this. You look fine. Always have. Go eat a sandwich." For those who think those comments mean I have ED-ish behavior, I don't. I exercise about an hour a day and eat ~1500 calories (1200 drives me up a wall!). My family is just a little paranoid because they see me weighing food. But for the most part people are fine with it. My friends don't mention it and 90% of the time my immediate family doesn't say a word. |

I hope I don't get in trouble for this but www.fitday.com gives you a breakdown of nearly everything (vitamins, minerals, sat fat., etc.). I used to use that site before CC, but it has no community. In my experience they work for a medium meal for 2 people. If I remember correctly the whole batch is ~600 cal. 400 = 1 cup flour 100 = 1 banana 90 = 1 cup soymilk ?? = 1 tablespoon sweetener Of course, if you use a calorie-reduced soymilk (do those exist? haha) and a no cal sweetener if would be more around 500. It's easy to add or subtract from the recipe if you want, ex:

Some ingredients I can only find in the 'health market' section of the grocery store (bulgar, egg substitute, whole wheat tortillas, etc.) and occassionally you get the feeling that people who see you there (from the other sections of the market) are rolling their eyes at you. It's also rather awkward having a cart full of fruit & veggies when the person infront/behind you in checkout has a chart full of oreos/fritos/frozen pizza/etc. I know that what I doing isn't wrong but I still feel kinda strange about it. :/ |

My main motivation is knowing how I'll feel afterwards. If I get off the treadmill sweating like a pig and feeling like I've run the bones out of my body I can just collapse on the floor and feel like I'm in heaven. Can't do that every time but each exercise session gives a little 'high' that is enjoyable. I think about getting that mood boost and suddenly the treadmill/weights/jump rope/whatever doesn't seem quite so bad. |

I don't know if these will be fluffy enough for you - you'll have to see for yourself. I love them, though. Banana Pancakes:
Put in bowl. Mix well. Make pancakes as usual. They are just like regular pancakes except slightly more squishy if you don't mash the bananas well enough, and tend to be more nutritious. :) |

| Vegetarian | Do vegans have clearer skin? | Dec 28 2007 19:06 (UTC) |

I found my face only cleared up when I switched which product I cleaned it with. Tea tree oil > any other chemical, when it comes to my skin. Going vegan didn't seem to change anything. My eyes look the same as they always have. I think a lot of people just feel better about themselves after going totally vegan or totally vegetarian. It's an accomplishment and it boosts egos. They start noticing anything good that is happening to them instead of constantly focusing on all the badness in their life. It's sort of like after running your ass off on the treadmill, you look in the mirror, sweaty and nasty - but the first thought is "Damn I look good. I just did 5 miles!". ;) The glow of accomplishment can change what you see in the mirror. Or there could be a medical reason - who knows? I'm pretty sure it's all in people's heads, though. |

| Weight Loss | How often do you track your weight? | Dec 28 2007 16:46 (UTC) |
14 |
I track fluctuations every day except for before my period. I'm currently on the pill so when I switch from active pills to the period-week sugar pills I ignore the scale. Bloating just throws me off and makes me feel bad because I'm 'gaining' weight that will drop away in a week anyways. I also do the before breakfast bit. It took me a while to remember (I'm groggy when I wake up, haha), but it becomes habit after a bit. If I've recently upped my weights in strength training I also ignore the scale a bit because the added weight from new muscle tends to bum me out. Some people ignore the scale entirely and go by measuring tapes only. |

TOMATO SOUP: Two mini-cans of V8 (spicy kind!) make an excellent 60 calorie soup. (As opposed to the 180 cal. condensed soup in the cupboard). SANDWICHES: Switching regular bread for tortillas. I used to make my sandwiches with regular bread (70 cal/piece) but since I like to toast my sandwiches I switched to tortillas (50 cal/piece) because they're thinner and fit better in my tiny toaster. That saves me 40 calories a sandwich! :) |

When I have PMS I hop on the treadmill and direct all that nasty hormone-charged rage at myself for 30 minutes (or more). I get the most intense workouts from it. It works for me - I burn lots of calories and by the time I'm done I no longer feel like biting anyone's head off. :) |

I drink ridiculous amounts of Red Bull (sugar free), XS Energy drinks (same), and coffee (I take it black). So...mostly healthy if it weren't leaching all the good stuff from my bones. :/ I've finally cut myself down to 2 or 3 energy drinks a day (240mg of caffiene) but every Friday I go out with friends and end up having several cups of coffee (500+ mg). But that's the health aspect. Calories wise I indulge in tater tots and peanut butter. :( |

Health advice first: All that stuff is known as "vegan crap". By me, anyways. They're barely healthier than their non-vegan counterparts and generally tend towards sabotaging diets when used it large quantities. Moderation is key, as is with all delicious-but-bad-for-you foods. Anyways, giving up dairy products gets very easy over time. Most people I've talked to about it say 1 month after going vegan (if they didn't slip back) was all it took to remove their milk/cheese cravings. I never cared for cheese or milk but it took me about a month and a half to totally rid myself of yogurt cravings. I ate it like crazy before going vegan, though. I suppose that's why it took longer. Vegan snacks that are easy to find at any grocery store: bananas, apples, crackers + peanut butter, celery sticks, baby carrots, pears, oranges, nuts & seeds (pumpkin seeds are my fave), cucumber slices w/ mustard, hot zucchini (just slice it & pop in the toaster oven for a little bit), raisins, dried fruit in general. Careful with the peanut butter, nuts, and dried fruit, though. Those calories can get pretty crazy if you don't pay attention to your handfuls. Oh, and I put celery sticks on there but I personally can't stand them except in stews. :P |
