My motivation is happiness - I know I'll be happier if I can achieve this goal. It's one less thing for me to 'rag' on myself for. It also says a lot about my character - my ability to stick to something. |

Hi Lynn. I know where you're coming from when you say you used food to cope with the things that you felt you could not control in life. I have similar issues with mental health and have finally been seeing doctors to help change things around. I am happier and more confident now than I have been in quite a while - which is one reason why I think trying to change my weight and poor eating habits is a good idea - I'm in the right frame of mind. If I start now, hopefully I can carry it through to the times when I struggle. But it has truely become a habit - it's so easy to lean on food. It's so simple, and so quick. But I'm learning that things often get worse before they get better, in the sense that change is difficult to adapt to. But after that adaptation phase, is when all the benefits are reaped. I am thinking about starting weight watchers. Any opinions about that?? |

Wow, thanks for all the encouragement. I just got back from a jog to try to build some positive momentum and I'm feeling a bit better. One day at a time. Or even simpler, one moment at a time. The idea of all the future moments I'm going to have to live through still sounds daunting - but I feel a whole lot better knowing that others around me are here for support if I need it. I am really going to work on 'reprogramming' my self talk to encourage myself towards weightloss and learn to enjoy the many aspect of weightloss. Our thoughts govern our behaviours so if I can change those I will have a much better chance of losing weight. *brushing the dust off* Time to start the day. |

Okay. I will try my best. For some reason, I'm lacking self-confidence in my ability to do this (and saying this probably isn't very helpful). However, I don't want to give up, because that is the final step towards failure. But I am so scared!! Getting through this is something I'm going to have to do on my own - because I'm the only one that can change it. Here goes another Day 1. The beginning of the rest of my summer. This will be the one where I make it to 120lbs. |

Lady Speed Stick works great for me. I've had BO problems in the past, and used the Baby Powder scent for a feminie but odor masking solution. Depending on how much you sweat there, Mitchum is great to. Originally made for men - it's strong, but has a womanly scent. If you get this, you'll have to be careful wearing white or light coloured clothing because the anti-perspirant chemical turns the fabrics a light yellow. |

If she's about four months, and 15lbs, they fill out till about a year I would guess. So perhaps around 40lbs?? Maybe a bit more depending on how malnourished she is right now. A vet would know better than me, though. I don't know what the breed is - the pup might be a mix which would be hard to tell. |

Hello, I'm experiencing the same thing. It took a lot longer than four weeks for me though.. I needed about a year =S It's awesome you've managed to make that change/break that habit. Overcoming the mental attachment to food is for many people(like myself), the most challenging part to weightloss and it seems like you're on the right track!! You're just experiencing one of the benefits of a healthy relationship with food. I'm happy for yah! |

Wow thanks for all the replies! I have a water bottle in hand and am on my way to the gym to help fight off that water weight. Even if that doesn't help - I'm simply content knowing that number is most likely a symptom of TTOM :) |

Thanks for showing me it =D dadivan: I've set all 6 of my cell alarms to pop up a reminder that I don't need sugar - it's a great idea. That'll definately help me get past the forgetfulness. Thanks a bunch :) |

I agree with Madamq. Go pee. And poo. You'll have an accurate reading of your body weight - one that excludes the waste/food passing through it. |

Fresca!! It is delicious!! And ZERO cals. It's carbonated (made by Coca-Cola) looks like a type of pop from the outside, so you won't stand out as if you're drinking a low-cal or boring drink. Plus, the carbonation fills you up - which helps tame cravings or unnecessary eating. It has a few flavours, like grapefruit, peach, and black cherry (grapefruit is what I see on the shelves most often). Mmm.. good. |

| Weight Loss | After "cheating"... | Feb 13 2009 07:09 (UTC) |

I agree with leanerandmeaner :) Its never worth punishing yourself. Rather, take time to reflect on what happened (in your case: eating a high % of fat calories), and try to indentify what caused it (ie. lack of awareness, a trigger situation, etc..). When you learn the cause, you are better able to handle similar ones in the future - because you're aware of what they are. You can reflect on how you would like to react differently, so that you know how to handle it in the future. Plus, if you find you're compensating for a 'mistake' you can fall into an unhealthy and obsessive cycle - similar to bingeing and purging. Rather than purging, you might use intense exercise. The problem is, you are rectifying eating unhealthy food by punishing yourself for it after. You don't want to rectify it, you want to eliminate it. You want to prevent it from happening in the first place, rather than justifying with exercise or some other form of punishment, afterwards. Just realize what happened. Live with it. And think about how you can change it in the future. Get to know yourself, and the underlying causes of your behaviours, and just gain more self-awareness. You'll have more power over your eating habits. |

Instead of gorging on ice cream, I'll eat an entire 650mL tub of yogurt in about 15 minutes. It's a bit healthier - but never the less, its an addictive and unhealthy behaviour. Don't know whether you've had the Lemon Merangue yogurt. Source makes it in their "Dessert" line.. but that's what usually gets me scooping. |

| Weight Loss | Breakfast question | Feb 10 2009 03:15 (UTC) |
3 |
Yes, breakfast is really important because it jumpstarts your metabolism. The longer you wait to eat food, the slower your metabolism becomes (almost as if it becomes sleepy). The more regularly you eat, the quicker your metabolism will become - which helps to burn fat without even exercising! As for the time constraints?? Cereal is easy, quick, and yummy. However, if you're looking for something with even less morning preparation, milk (which you already drink??) with a piece of fruit is good. It's packed with nutrition (protein, dairy, fruit, carbs). Breakfast sandwiches are also good :) You can prepare a week's worth, and keep them in the freezer (except for the one that you plan to eat the following morning). But I definitely recommend breakfast within 1 hour of waking up so you can benefit from a faster metabolism to burn those pesky fat cells!! :) Good luck. |

Awesome!! I'm on day 3 now. I'm glad to have a few others on board! how have things been going?? runningbuns - thanks for the advice =) I'm always confused on calorie intake when it comes to exercising AND reducing my consumption. I will aim to keep it between 1500 and 1600. If it comes off slow - so be it. As long as it comes off. haha How has the temptation with ice cream been treating you?? slb537 - I'm sorry to disappoint on the topic =P I figured it might catch some people's attention hehe. I'm glad to hear you've been able to make the change. It gives me hope that it's really possible to change my eating habits long-term. frusturated 11 - so far, I have found the best way to succeed in changing you eating habits is to also change your environment. If your environment is set up properly, it will help pull you when you're feeling weak or tempted. If you have fruits in your room, rather than cereal (or other unhealthy foods) - even if you have the temptation, fruits are just so much easier. Plus it reminds you what you are trying to change when all you can find is healthy foods. What you have around you is definately key to success. |

On days I'm exercising, I'm going to be burning roughly 250 cals (since I'm using the bike). Does that mean I should up my calorie intake by 250 cals as well?? runningbuns, I'm glad to have you on board!! I do not think there is such a thing as "free" ice cream - it's a clever trick!! When I read that, it makes me think I could eat more with not as much guilt. It is justified by the lower calories. In the end, the total calorie intake would probably end up being the same calories or even more. It's like Pringles - once ya scoop yah can't stop.. (without the catchy rhyme). Good luck with the challenge :) Let me know how it goes. |

I agree with cellar-door =) A witty and clever group name is essential!! hehe Also, I second his/her proposal for a group that's small in size. I think a more intimate group will allow for a more effective support network to develop. It's important that we can build relationships and know about each other's progess and challenges. With large groups, identities often get lost among the crowd. It'd be nice to have people who know who we are, know a bit about each other, and be able to help each other through things. |
