Happy Monday! I signed up for the "New Year, New You" challenge at our gym, so I'm weighing in every Saturday and using the weight form that scale as my "official" weight for the next 12 weeks. Weight on Jan 1, 2008 - 246 Weight Jan 12, 2008 - 238 I'm happy with 8 pounds, but I find myself with unrealistic expectations from watching shows like "The Biggest Loser." I try to remind myself that those contestants have someone to prepare their food and push them in the gyms 8 hours a day, while I'm cooking for myself (and a husband) and working 10-12 hours a day. Still, just once I'd like to lose 20 pounds in a week! I'm also trying to remember this is a lifestyle and not a diet. At least I've gotten away from my old mentality of "one slip means I'm off program." I had a piece of cake at a funeral this afternoon and for the old me that would have been enough to make the rest of the day a free day - eat what you want, you already blew it. Now I'm off to the gym tonight! Have a great week. Ann |

And here's my intro! My name is Ann and I'm 47 years old. I don't remember a time I didn't have weight as a top of mind issue - except perhaps when I was pregnant. Having just had a birthday 3 days ago I am determined to live the 2nd half of my life healthier than the first half. My "plan" - and I hesitate to use the term because I swear I've spent millions of $$'s on all the other plans - is lifestyle changes that are realistic and sustainable. As added motivation I and my husband have a bike riding vacation planned for July. I need to be ready to bike 40 - 60 miles a day and sleep in a tent at night. The stats: 246.2 pounds (at my gym today), 5'5" tall. Goal: 150 pounds. Here we go! |

El - I'm new to the site as well, but certainly not new to weight loss attempts. I've lost 20 pounds over the last year (not setting any land speed records!) and have an additional 80 pounds to lose. I'm trying to do it through healthy eating and exercise. I'd love to check in with someone working through some of the same issues. It can be hard for me to relate to someone trying to lose "that 10 pounds around my middle" when my mountain seems so much harder to scale (pun intended!) I'm not certain how to set up a link - I'll leave that to those less technically challenged than I am! Happy New Year! Ann
