| Foods | What should I buy at Trader Joes? | Mar 07 2008 04:05 (UTC) |

I was just at Trader Joe's a couple of days ago
I like their reduced fat cheeses. Jalsburg light swiss and Cabot's 75% reduced fat sharp cheddar. They also have great prices of frozen berries and fruit. I always buy their frozen brown rice and steele cut oatmeal. Frozen salmon patties are wonderfull if you like salmon. They are not just mushed up fish, and only 80 calories. I use them as a substitute for me when I am making every one else hamburgers. I also bought sweet potatoe spears for the first time, there are instructions on the package to make "fries" in the oven with them. Very good. My favortie thing at TJ's is tofuti cuties, like ice cream bars. Maybe you can try some of these things on your next trip

Pilates is great for the legs. Also taebo can help reduce hips and thighs without gaining too much muscle and looking bulky. |

Fiber One Cereal is very low is calories and high in fiber so it fills you up. I have this for breakfast with fat free milk several times a week. Also if you ike mushrooms, you can eat a ton of them without many calories and they are filling. I micowave them with some salt free seasoning. I was at a talk with a nutritionist recently and she suggests a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack. Combine complex carbs with some kind of protien. My favorits are a small apple and one ounce or low fat cheese, 1/2 whole wheat pita and 2 tbs hummus or 1/2 cup yogurt or fat free cottage cheese and berries or pineapple. Good luck, I know you will fiqure out what works for you. |

I saw it on the receipie forum. puree one can of black beans with liqiud and add to brownie mix or drain the beans and add the same amount of water. Dont add any thing else. You can make brownies from scratch, just the dry ingredients and add the black bean puree. They are good and you cant tell that they have beans in them. |

yes, cupcakes are great too. My daughter thinks they are the best. I didnt tell her they are made with diet soda. You should also try the black bean brownies. The black bean puree lowers the fat and adds losts of fiber |

Yes you can. I tried this with a white cake receipe and reduced the sugar a bit and then added a diet sprite. The cake has a heavier consistancy, but still delicious |

* * * HUGS * * * Don't give yourself a bad time. Take it one day at a time, you had a bad day and today has to be better. I quit smoking three months ago. Last weekend I wend on a girls weekend with two freinds from high school. I havent had a drink since new years eve, but I drank and smoked way too much. We went out to dinner and ate crap in the hotel room all night long. I had a really good time. We all slip upnow and then. Just dont decide that you blew it yesterday, so why bother today. Dont fall all the way off the wagon. You are not a mess, well maybe for a while, but it will get better and you will get back on track.

| Weight Loss | Want to lose at least 40 pounds...Is this a good start? | Feb 01 2008 03:12 (UTC) |

I was at a seminar recently with a nutritionist as one of the speakers. She recomends combining complex carbs with a lean protien for your snacks. some examples were 1 peice fruit + 1 serving of nuts (7-10 almonds, 3 whole walnuts, 7-10 pecans) 1/2 whole wheat pita + 2 tbs hummus 5-6 whole wheat crackers + 2 tbs nut butter (peanut or almond) protien list also includes: 1 oz chesse, 1 egg, 1 cup yogurt, 2-3 oz lean meat, 8 oz fat free or soy milk carb list also includes: 1 piece whole wheat bread, 1/4 cup high fiber cereal I was following the plan and not loosing but when I started combining carbs and protien for snacks, I started loosing again. This might help you. You need to eat enough calories for your body to run, if you dont eat enough, you will not loose any weight. |

I did the Atkins thing a few years ago for over a year. I did loose weight, but as others have said it is impossible to do forever. Also when I started eating carbs again I gained back most of the weight I lost. Using this site as a guideline to loose weight is the best plan. Eat less, move more. |

| Weight Loss | Quitting Smoking | Jan 24 2008 16:10 (UTC) |

Domicole, I am 49 and have smoked since I was a teenager. I quit last November and the reason that I am using the tools from this site is so that I dont gain weight. I tried three times before to quit without success. This time I am determined. One of the biggest reasons people gain weight is that they replace the cig's with food. Also your metabolism changes and you can gain weight even without eating more. I have started doing other things at the times when I still want to smoke. After dinner is the worst time. I go outside and walk around the yard, thats what I would be doing if I was smoking. Sometimes I get in the bathtub and read a book. There are a couple of medications out that can help. I have been taking one of them and it has made it easier. I have not gained any weight, but also havent lost any. The thing that I tell myself is that I am better than the nicotine and it will not suck me in again. I deserve to be without nicotine and if a gain a little weight I will take it off after I kick the habit. Good luck |

I've read the tips and tried this many times, but it just wont work. The only ingredient the browser gives me is the ground beef, it says the other ingredients are found be it wont add them to the receipie for some reason.
6 servings 1 pound lean ground beef [23560] |

| Weight Loss | Peanut Butter Okay? | Jan 17 2008 22:16 (UTC) |

Try some low cal or low carb bred. Most of them are only 40-60 calories a slice. That would reduce the calories slightly. The bread is smaller and not great all by itself, but you are putting that yummy PNB on it. I also love peanut butter and mix it with equil parts of fat free cream chesse. It still tasts like peanut butter and is smother and richer. Might not be your thing, but with low carb bread and half fat free cream cheese you cut the calories almost in half.

Mani, You know what they say, third times a charm! Its a lifestyle change, not a diet. You need to use the information and tools you learn here always. If you do the best you can every day then thats all you can do. Take each day, each challange one by one and before you know it the lbs will be gone. If you slip and eat something you know you shouldnt try to balance it out the next day by eating less. Dont let it get you down. get back on to the new lifestyle. If I really really want to eat something, I have one bite or one piece and that works for me.

Katie, Think of this as a lifestyle change and not a diet. Get support from your husband and your children. Its difficult at first to change your eating habbits but in a short while you wont want to eat the bad stuff. Healthy food like fruit and vegatalbes will help you feel fuller longer also foods high in fiber. At the start of each day praise yourself for all the good things you did the day before. Move more dosent mean just going to the gym. You can burn more calories just playing with your children. Its a long road, but this website should give you lots of help. You can make better food choices by using the resorces here. Also lots of people to chat with about lots of things. good luck |

dont know what you were eating before, but processed foods, fast food and junk food have a lot of chemicals and stuff thats realy bad for your body.Exercise can emprove your outlook because it realeases endorphins. Also maybe you are so happy because you know all the good things you are doing for yourself. Keep it up. I notice a change in mood when I dont eat well. Too much fat and bad food also makes my skin look bad. |

you need to burn more calories than you eat. The burn meter adds up because you are always burning calories. You burn more when you are very active like exercising. Check out some of the things in the activity log. You can calculate how may calories you burn while watching tv, shopping, cooking. There is even a burn rate for sex. The meter shows you have may calories you have burned for the day with the activities you have added and calories you burn just sitting around. |

Cold turkey, I do go outside and breath in fresh cold air for a while sometime and kind of pretend to smoke. I know that smoking increases youe metabolism and I can always take off the extra weight later. I also had a hysterectomy two months ago and am dealing with some belly bulge issues that really bother me. I have always been fit and slim. It brings me down to carry a few xtra pounds and have to hide my stomache. I am very proud of myself for quiting, I smoked for 30 years. Never very much but always a few a day. |

Balance out your calories for the week by eating less calories the day before and that day. Stick to low calorie high fiber foods like fruit and veg. Limit yourself to a bit or small piece of treats instead of eating until you cant eat anymore. To keep yourself from eating cookie dough while baking cookies, chew sugarless gum or suck on sugar free hard candy. If you brush your teeth nothing tastes good. Ask your friends to help you stay away from binging. You will eat that stuff if you are with your girlfreinds having fun. Have a good time and dont beat yourself up if you eat too much. Its okay evey now and them. |

| Muscle weighs more than fat. How do your cloths fit. Are you really larger or do you weigh more because you have more muscle. Try mesuring your waist, hips, thighs etc. and then do it again in a couple of weeks. Maybe you are losing inches but gaining lbs due to the fact that you have more muscle. | |||
| Recipes | Cleaning Cast-Iron | Jan 08 2008 16:17 (UTC) |

You should not use soap on cast iron, so rinsing or scrubbing with hot water is good. Also they rust easy so they should be dried every time you wash them. Cleaning them when they are hot is also an easy way to get the food off of them and shouldnt hurt the pan. After I clean mine I put them back on a warm burner or in the oven if it is warm to dry. Then rub a thin coat of olive oil on the surface. Hope this helps. |

you can do the same kind of thing with your owm cornbread reciepe and reduce the amount of sugar, just leave out any eggs, milk and fat and use the creamed corn instead. some of the corn bread mixes have a lot of sugar in them. For a larger receipe or box of mix you should use the big can of creamed corn.

| I use a box mix like the little jiffy corn muffin mix and add one small can of cream of corn. The little tiny can. divide among six muffin tins and cook according to pacakage directions. You dont need to add anything else but the can of creamed corn. I dont know the calorie/fat count, but I dont think it is too bad. Muffins are moist and full of flavor | |||
