Recipes Popcorn in paper bag? Jan 19 2008

Hi everyone:

Did I just find popcorn lovers?  I have used the microwave popcorn bowl mentioned by digigirl in the past and it works fine although the popcorn does burn if you wait till the popping has stopped.  By the way, I should buy another one as I am currently making my popcorn in canola oil right now and it would be much better to use the microwave bowl.  The popcorn will be dryer of course.

This has always been my all-time favourite snack! Have a great weekend.

Hi NGreene925:

My goodness what a great tip from bonnyneale!  That's what I was thinking the other day: manufactuers will produce all kinds of products laced with sugar and artificial ingredients and sell them only to make a buck at our health's expense.  So let's ban those expensive  unhealthy and unnatural products.  That should help us right there.  I love her line If man was involved with making it, avoid it!  It should become our motto!

Just go by it one day at a time.  I have 40 lbs to lose as well but I try not to look at the number but rather at each day.  Try to make it as enjoyable as possible and stay positive.  When I take the time of tasting a good orange, clementine or apple, I say to myself, why don't I eat those delicious fruits more often instead of having chips.  It is amazing how many natural foods we simply ignore!  You have to set it in your mind first, then it is much easier.

You're not alone!  We're all in the same boat and yes, together we can make it happen!  Cheers!  -  Loumi

I think you have a good approach.  If you can't go to the gym you can see your daily chores as exercise.  When you go down and up the stairs.. this is exercise. Vacumming too and if you add music (higher volume I admit) it makes it already livelier.  I do believe in vitamins B and cinnamon that we can add to anything we eat in small quantities.

You have to like what you do and personally if I add music, it gives a totally different perspective.  I realised that too often, I would not reserve time for myself.  We deserve special time to pamper ourselves, whether it is to read, a nice warm bath with a book, or a walk.  Our body has served us incredibly well over the years in spite of everything.  It is now time, to show some respect and stop using it as a processing plant or even worse, a garbage can.  One way of doing it would be to avoid processed foods (too salty, made with transfat and/or too much sugar etc.).  I also read that the worst food are: white bread and refined sugar as well as hydrogenated fat (oils and/or butter) and we must not forget the portions or second helpings.  I love rice (the white regular one of course) pfffff but I'm slowly learning, and when you come to think of it, it makes so much sense.  Like our parents, and grand-parents, we've been ignorant of these facts... but now we have no excuse.

I'm confident that every little positive step that will become part of our new way of life will make a huge difference.  One day at a time.   I have now succeeded in replacing salt with herbs, I don't use much sugar and I have replaced white bread with Flaxseed whole wheat bread which I find delicious.  My husband replaced white bread with Smart bread (half and half) so it's one step in the right direction.

I guess I'm on a roll and could write about it for ever so please forgive my lengthy exposé (LOL).  We'll keep posted and see how we're doing each day.

Please take care and the magic word is to stay POSITIVE.  Never see it in a negative way.  People were able to go to the moon, I guess we can attain our goal if our mind is really set to it.

Best regards.  Loumi2

Hi Cherlyn52:

Wish to reiterate my best wishes for 2008.

In response to your question, if you look at your own page on the same line as your name, you will see on the right-hand side:  ''Add buddy'', if you click on it it should work.  You can test it with my name.

Hi ngreene925:

I too have 40 lbs to lose and I intend to do it one day at a time.  First by getting rid of bad habits, making smarter choices, by reducing the portions, and eating more often but less in order to be less hungry at the next meal.  Drink more water and exercise, even if it is only walking on a regular basis.

I also believe that I have abused my body by pure ignorance for too long and took my health for granted.  It's highly time to treat it as my best ally.

I'm sure that there will be some good days and bad days but with mutual motivation and encouragement, nothing is impossible.

I wish you a Happy New Year and will be happy to hear from you!  Loumi2

Hi Cherlyn52,

This is my worry as well.  But I do believe that eating smaller portions but more often during the day and never after 8pm (a problem right there for me) could make a big difference.  Instead of 3 big meals a day,  I'm switching to smaller meals, with fruits and vegetables in between.  Therefore I'm less hungry when the next meal comes.  I will see with time if it makes a difference.

Also I'm looking for foods that boost metabolism (which tends to slow down with age).   I also like to listen to pop music and even dance (which turns out to be good exercise)!!!  But I do believe that we have to look at it as a positive challenge and not a burden, otherwise, it becomes negative.

I wish you a GREAT day!  Loumi2

I Connieva:  We seem to have the exact same numbers:  5'2'' - 170 lbs.  In my teen years I was so skinny that I suffered a lot because of it...  I haven't been able to enjoy my ideal weight for a long time.  Now it's the reverse.  I too will wellcome buddies so that we can motivate and encourage each other.  I will add your name as a CC twin if you don't mind.  LOL.

I wish you the very best in 2008.   Loumi2

Same here.  Just joined and have at least 40 pounds to lose and I'm 61.  So with mutual help and a common goal I don't see why we couldn't succeed!  I'm convinced that motivation and encouragement can help us go a long way!  It's a new start.   Loumi
