| The Lounge | Do you believe in ghosts? | Jan 06 2008 03:53 (UTC) |

| Definitely yes. I had two ghosts in my previous house. One was an older woman who smelled of magnolias. I had nothing in my home that had that scent. No perfume or detergent or lotion or anything. She was mainly in my kitchen area. The other was a young male. There was one time when my entire family went out together for dinner. When we came back home the radio was on in the back room tuned to a station that none of us listened to. The radio had no timer to set for it to come on. Plus that room was always considerably cooler than the rest of the house even though it was the farthest from the swamp cooler. And with 115+ temps outside that is amazing. | |||

Hi Niecie! I am originally from St. Louis, MO with my mom being from Tennessee/Mississippi area. So I have a lot of southern in me as well, and I know what you mean by loving those sweets. I think that is why I love the chocolate soy milk. I feel like I am being bad when I am actually being very good to myself. Plus soy is supposed to be good for women who are peri to full on menopausal. As for being southern I have one other thing to say. I once was told that there are three sexes. There are men. There are women. And then there are Southern women! I always liked that. Believe it or not I do have a Southern accent that can get mighty thick at times. One time I was standing outside of a business talking to a man from South Carolina. When we paused in the conversation, there was a young man standing there who said "Please don't stop talking. Listening to the two of you is like listening to music." I thought that was a very sweet thing to say. Hope that your weight loss goals go well. Good luck! |

Hi alleyfay. I know what you mean about your feet killing you. How do your feet hurt? Have you considered going to a podiatrist? I had plantar fasciitis and it sure helped me to see a doc about it. The heel pain was unbearable. But I have found that stretching and wearing proper foot wear makes a world of difference. My days of stiletto heels are fading fast. As for shoes, I found that Ryka makes a good shoe because they are actually designed on a last that is made for the female foot, not just a scaled down version of a male's. Maybe you just need to work into your routine more slowly? Especially if you have not ever been that active. I am fortunate because I get to go hiking in the summer (although bears kept us from hitting our favorite spots this last summer.) But keep up the effort. Maybe you could do something different. What about a dance class? I used to do belly dancing. It is fun, gets you in tune to your bod, and can increase your body acceptance. Just a thougt or two. |

| I go by who the person is. Color, creed, nationality, religion, sexuality/gender identity do not have anything to do with my decision. If a person is honest, open, trusting, and a genuinely warm person then I think that we would have a lot in common. | |||

Original Post by santonacci: I read an interesting book called "Perfect Health" by Deepak Chopra. In it he states the theory of the quantum mechanical body where we are not even the same person that we were a year ago. Our bodies are constantly changing and renewing, different parts at different paces. Thus we can control certain changes by the choices (lifestyle, nutrition, stress control, etc.) we make each day. Even the Bible states that "God's promises are new every morning." (Lamentations 3:22) Kinda gives a whole new meaning to New Year and the possibilities that it holds. |

Original Post by lovestonedtim: I grew up going to Sunday school and all that, and I have been hurt by the people of the church that I went to before I divorced. When I was in the process of leaving my husband of 21 years and trying to sort things out I really found out how hypocritical people can be. I have always said that the one thing wrong with church is the people in it. That is why I don't say I am a particular religion, I just say that I am of the Christian faith. It is my faith that is important to me, not the laws interpreted and assigned by "man". I guess the bottom line for me is that it does not matter whether or not I know the answer to such questions about life and the universe. I just focus on my part in it. |

Original Post by chelseagirl: Here in my small town in California we have a curfew of 10 pm for anyone under the age of 18. The only exception is coming home from a job (i.e. McDonalds), but even then minors are not supposed to be out much past 10. The first offense is a warning, the second offense is a fine of $100+ for the parents. Actually it is the parents who get in the most trouble. |

| The Lounge | worst insult you ever got because of your weight.... | Jan 03 2008 15:38 (UTC) |

| By far the worst insult I ever had was being asked when my baby was due. The last time I was pregnant had been 18 years prior! Ouch. Otherwise I think that what one of my son's shoolmates said to him about his mom being fat really hurt. It made me see that my weight affects not only me. | |||

MB, thanks for the info on adding buddies. The tagging works for any food item that you have already logged in...be it from the sites list of foods or the ones that you have added yourself. When you look at your daily entries you will notice a "T" to the right of the food description. Just click on that and you can create your own list of commonly used foods. It makes things alot easier. Otherwise, how is it going for you? I sure do like this site. So far I have been eating healthier. Making healthier choices. But sometimes it is hard. Like last night my husband brought home dinner. Baked chicken breasts, rice pilaf, and a cherry pie. I didn't have any pie. Just one look at the nutrition info made me cringe. At least the chicken had no skin and wasn't salty; the pilaf wasn't a compete nutri nightmare either. Plus I added a veggie. Better get going for the day. Have a healthy day! Karen

| For me the answer has always been simple...God...The great "I am". To think that it was all an accident just has never made sense to me. But I can see where you are coming from. Sometimes life can be dizzying enough without worrying about the "beginning". What you are talking about reminds me of the reflection of a mirror within a mirror. | |||

Would love to have you as a weight loss buddy. I too have been overweight for years...24 to be exact. I never really lost the weight after my first baby. I really want to get this weight off before menopause hits. I hear that it is so much harder then. And your right, Karen is a good name. Here's to a healthier new year for us all!

Hi koilady! I have an idea for your food logging dilemma. If you tag an item it is easier to find. This is especially helpful when the nutrition info isn't in the data base. I will definitely add you as a friend...as soon as I figure out how.
Happy New Year to you too! karen848 |

| My favorite has to be chocolate soy milk. I also drink 2%. But I do admit to using real half and half in my coffee. A slight indulgence since I don't have it very often. | |||
