If people find out I'm dieting, they ask how much I want to lose.

I usually reply, "About two kindergarten children.  With backpacks".

Very cute kitties!

Yeah, we went with the couple names for our cockatiels, and instead of Lucy and Ricky, my daughter somehow managed to call them "Lucy and Icky" instead.

I only play after the babies are in bed, which leaves me a couple hours before *I* have to go to bed.  Hubby still plays quite a bit.

I'm more into making WoW machinima than actually playing anymore.  :)

I used to get mouth ulcers constantly.  I used L-lysine supplements and that always helped, along with Orajel for surface relief.  Strangely enough, I haven't had an ulcer since I had my cholecystectomy.

Weight Loss I hate Girl Scout cookies! Mar 05 2008

As a reward for meeting a goal at work, a box of Girl Scout cookies was the prize!

I didn't even answer what box I wanted, no way was I going to be tempted.

It's bad when you're trying to get away from food being a reward, and that is what work is using.  While it's nice to be appreciated, I was tempted to e-mail back and say 'Just send me a check for the cost of 1 box and shipping, thanks!'

That's so funny, I just had a tuna salad sandwich for lunch today!

I've always made it with tons of mayonnaise (duh).  Today, I made it with fat-free sour cream and sweet pickle relish, put it on some whole wheat bread and viola!  It was surprisingly good.  I've never tried it with mustard, since I really don't like it.

I think you'll just have to play around with it and see what you create that you like.

Weight Loss Gallbladder surgery stress Feb 26 2008

Well, I have to say I gained weight after my gallbladder surgery, but only because I had it when I was 6 weeks pregnant!  Undecided

My mom actually lost weight after having her gallbladder removed, she said she felt so much better and ended up getting around and doing more after she healed.

Good luck and happy healing!

Edit:  Did they mention if they thought it was related to weight loss?  My surgeon told me that being pregnant plus having lost 30 pounds probably contributed to mine.

*Gross alert*  He also compared my gallstones to chick peas.  I've never felt the same about them since.

Foods serving size?! Feb 26 2008

I bought a set of plastic bowls at the local dollar store for my daughter's snacks to preschool.  They have 1.5 cups marked on the bottom, so I now use these as my "portion bowls".  When I started eating out of those, it shocked me to realize how much I was putting in my "regular" bowls.  No wonder I gained weight!

For me now, cereal is not even worth it.

I definitely get where you are coming from.

I haven't told anyone other than my mother about my current attempts at exercise and diet.  I mentioned it to my husband, but I think he's forgotten by now, and just made fun of me for wanting to do it.  I can never work out when he's home, anyway.

For me, admitting I'm eating healthier and/or exercising brings out those "oh, but you look fine!" comments.  When you say you're quitting smoking, or drinking, nobody says "oh, you don't need to.  Light up another one!".  I hate to hear people that I thought truly cared about me lie!  I don't look fine, I look fat and unhealthy.  It's not a matter of 10 vanity pounds, we're talking about 100+ here.  That's 2 kindergarten kids!  With backpacks!

So, Ntebo, tell us all your ups and downs and know that we totally support you, because, hey, we've been there.

Julieann, I know exactly what you mean about the back burner!.  Between kids, and spouses, and family, and work, and this, and that, I found it hard to justify taking time to "exercise".   But, you know, I figured it out.  I'm no good to anyone feeling fat and depressed, and being tired!

I quit smoking before I had my babies, and never looked back.  But, now, since I've been cutting out my "comfort food", they are beckoning me! Money mouth

Sara, you are such an inspiration!  Tell us what kept you motivated and your best tips, I'd love to hear them.

I'm married with a 4-year-old daughter and an (almost) 3-month-old son.  Guess what I'm trying to do - Lose that post pregnancy flab and everything else that I had before it!  Most counters suggest me at 140, but my goal right now is to get to 200 and work down from there!  Yell

My favorite dressing is the Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch Dressing -- without the mayo.  Yep, that's right.  Just buttermilk and the packet.  Most people think its too runny that way, but I absolutely love it.  Make it with nonfat buttermilk and it's pretty much guilt-free.

I keep a shaker full of it in the fridge at all times.  I marinate my chicken with it, my pork chops, dip vegetables in it, put in on my salad, use it to wash windows....(okay, well, you get my point).

Pregnancy & Parenting Ok parents, how did you know when you were ready for another child? Feb 04 2008

After the difficult time I had with my first child, I joked that I NEVER wanted another.  But, things happened, and I ended up pregnant when she was 3.  After the shock wore off for me (my husband was thrilled), I miscarried at 8 weeks in December of 2006.  I realized then that I was definitely ready for another child, the loss of that one tore me to pieces.  I didn't realize how much I was looking forward to having another little one running around.  That said, I now have a 2-month-old little boy who is an absolute joy.

My daughter is now 4 and she loves him dearly.  She also is a great help to me.   I think it all depends on the needs of your current family.  I don't think anyone is ever "ready" to have children, because everything you think you know goes right out the window when they're born!

It was only after I started eating better and exercising that I was able to get pregnant with my first child.

I don't know if the weight loss helped, or the fact I wasn't so self-conscious about myself and actually didn't mind having sex during the day, too!  (That's probably waaaay too much information, but...)

Good luck!

Weight Loss Diet Day 1...FAIL!! Jan 04 2008

It's too late now to agonize over it.  Forget it, and be ready to start fresh tomorrow.

I have a terrible problem with willpower.  My husband is a chronic junk food junkie and always has chips, candy, ice cream, whatever around.  It's hard to avoid temptation.  If it gets to be too much, I'll measure out a small amount of what's irresistible and take it AWAY from the kitchen to eat it.  That way, I won't be tempted to fill up the bowl again!

Just keep on plugging along.  Don't let one day make you fall back into all the old habits.  It's like falling off a horse, right?  Get back on!
