Way to go, it doesn't necessarily have to be water weight.

I joined NO S (a system I read about through a recommendatin by the nutritionist here) on April 28, weighing 154.

Have eaten three normal sized meals a day every day - splurged more on the weekends and weigh 138 this morning.

16 pounds in two months, the recommended 2 pounds a week.

So, your weight loss is probably going to hold.

Keep it up...

Foods $6 for a salad at Wendy's... wtf! No wonder people don't eat healthy... Jun 28 2009

Luckily our Wendy's has salads on the dollar menu. They are actually pretty good - basic iceberg lettuce but they have a little bit of cucumber, cherry tomatoes, a smattering of cheese, etc. I guess for six bucks, one could eat six if they were really hungry. I usually just get one and a small chili...Cool

That said, I do see LOTS of examples while shopping - soda for 99 cents, milk or juice much higher, fresh peaches I got yesterday were two bucks for two - a giant bag of potato chips was also two bucks (didn't get it but saw it in the aisle). Sliced white sandwich bread was 69 cents a loaf, good deli 7 grain bread was 4.39.

Lots of examples out there. It is sometimes not only more expensive but much more time consuming to eat well.

But, so worth it. I joined here in Jan 08, having finally realized that weighing 162 was not a good thing for me. Lost my weight fairly quickly (a few months) due to the fact that I charted here every day - it kept me honest and showed my progress.  I weigh 139 this morning (a pound below my goal weight) and it has been a very rewarding journey.

Weight Loss I've lost 10lbs in 2 weeks: should I be thrilled or worried?! Jun 06 2009

Well, I would choose thrilled. If you have been eating a balance diet and exercising, I wouldn't worry. Often our body will hold on to a certain weight for a period of time, then adjust to a new lower weight, hold on to it, etc. I say, Congrats and keep up the healthy lifestyle.

Especially if you have changed your routine, added new or different exercise in your case.

I say, stroke that flaxen mane.Smile

I stir a spoonful of ground flax seed into my fat free yogurt every morning. Love it.

Also add flax seeds to any breads, muffins, etc. I make and sprinkle them on salads.

Weight Loss Somebody tell me, Why are the last ten pounds so hard to lose? Jun 02 2009

Well, I am about 5 foot 5, sixty years old.

I exercise a LOT so have some muscle weight, just a little flab covering those abs but I am sure they are there.

At my age, when I get below 140 I start to look older in the face and neck than I want.

I wear size six jeans and skirts, size ten tops.

A younger person would probably want to weigh closer to 120 or so, I remember weighing 118 for a long time and looked fine. Of course, back then I didn't exercise too much - had four kids in five years, that was enough running around for me.

Been there, done that - got the tshirt (a bit snug) to prove it.

I have been told by doctors that a body ( a woman's body) in particular holds onto the last bit of weight as a protective means against starvation in the event of a famine.

In the early days of civilization, it might be a while between mastodon kills (or whatever) so the body needed a fat store. A woman in particular, needed a "cushion" of nutrient protection in the event of a pregnancy.

Altho I also agree with everything posted on this thread.

My ideal weight is around 140, no lower than 138. I am currently 142.

Where I have been before.

and before, and before.

Thanks for the welcome.

I tend to think that society is influencing more than the opposite.

Look at the language and sexual innuendo on what is considered "family shows" like Two and a Half Men. Jake the little boy (well he was younger when it started) has heard and said some things on that show that my adult children have probably not heard or said. So, of couse, his peers would repeat those comments.

I accidentaly stumbled on some of the Tween shows on Nick and Disney and trust me, we didn't dress or talk like that when I was that age.

Sure, I am old. Sixty - but still - can anyone really prove that things are better today as far as our morality?

Motivation My Ex Is Sabotaging Me... May 30 2009

I just saw an XWeighted on Discovery Health about this same issue. A girl had broken up with her longtime boyfriend (in this case he had cheated on her). She was overweight and wanted to change her life. They had stayed friends and were thnking about geting back together romantically.

However, the more control she took over her life, the more outraged he got (real anger issues there). She told him to take a hike.. Probably the best two hundred pounds she ever lost.

Sounds like your EX might be a bit scared that you are imroving yourself.Maybe he thinks you will leave him in your wake.

Oh, yes, I miss the days of Mayberry.

I remember one episode where Opie got a bad grade on a test and he was so afraid to tell his dad.

But, before he got home everyone in town had already heard about it and told not only his dad but Aunt Bea.

It was a major crisis. Can you imagine now, he would have had to rob a grocery store, steal a car and plot to overthrow his school to even get noticed in most towns.

Well, I am a No S eater (Reinhard Engles plan of three meals a day, no sweets - snacks or seconds EXCEPT on  Saturdays, Sundays and Special days. This common sense plan has been what I was looking for - for YEARS, and it was recommended by this board. It has been the easiest and smartest eating plan I have ever encountered, who knew - three meals a day?)

So, I would enjoy the celebration. It is a special day.....

Just don't go crazy, there are a lot of healthy choices, enjoy them. There is no need to even make mention that you are "dieting".

Weight Loss stomach growling...does this mean i should up my intake? May 28 2009

Well, a growling stomach is nothing to be concerned about.

Your body is hungry which is good - sadly a feeling that many never feel anymore.

Don't worry, when you eat it will stop growling.

Weight Loss Share your Diet Tips "To Live By" May 12 2009

For those who feel discouraged that two pounds a week wouldn't make any difference anyway, so why try - a year from now they could be 102 pounds thinner. I seriously have learned from another site (directed there from something I read here - the NO S Diet), how much I snacked...

So, now I eat three balanced meals a day for five days, enjoy a little more leeway on the weekend or special days (the concept of the diet is No Sweets, Snakcs or Seconds on any day that isn't an S.)The author of the book, Reinhold, is an active part of the boards so that is fun too.

Nothing nutty there, the way our grandparents ate, three meals, a splurge on the weekends with a big Sunday dinner and dessert.

Also, the charting the weight and the graphs  on here really keep me honest.

There really is no secret, 'tis true. Eat well, exercise, drink lots of water, get lots of sleep - so simple, so why is it so hard?

Look at the bigger picture.

A pound a week will be 52 pounds in a year. Of course, you don't need to lose  that much, so you will finish early!

As far as the co-workers, they are probably being supportive, trying to be a "part of" your program without implying that you DO need to lose that weight. It is easier to talk about exercise than weight loss, per se.

Stay the course.

Weight Loss Why did my weight drop suddenly over the course of the day? May 01 2009
17:15 (UTC)

I agree with the others. Your weight may have been a reflection of your actions several days prior (and your "bad" weekend will take a couple days to show up). Once food is in our body, it has to be digested, removed, etc. A lot going on down there.

Fluid, or lack of, can affect weight a lot.

Luckily, I have no knowledge of marijuana or any other illegal drugs.

Congrats on seeing the 130 something marker, every decade down is a triumph. Even if the number was temporary, it will probably be a good motivation.

Weight Loss Help! Question about eating more to lose more May 01 2009

Your body tries to hold on to the last ten pounds or so for evolutionary reasons. In women, particularly, the body tries to provide a "cushion" of fat stores in the event of a pregnancy. In early days, there could be quite a timespan between mastadon kills.

Well, obviously, today many women are not worried about this issue as they have ready access to food should they be underweight and become pregnant. However, our bodies are wired to a certain mindset. Supposedly (I studied all this years and years ago - however if it dates back to prehistoric times, I doubt that it has suddenly changed.)

In my own life, it is VERY true. My body would be perfectly content ten pounds above where my jeans would prefer it to be.

Hang tough,

I agree with everybody.. Gee, that might be a first.

I agree that Mother's Day should be for children (or stepchildren) of any age to acknowledge their Mother. However, now it has become a general Hallmark Day, cards for My Neighbor Who Has Been Like A  Mother to My Cat, etc.

That said, maybe you could just teasingly say to the hubby,

So what are we gonna do for Mother's Day? Breakfast in bed, brunch, you name it.

If your stepdaughter is grateful for what you do, what her mother does is irrelevant. I know it would be maddening but I would try to concentrate on being the best mother I could be, ignoring the weaknesses of the other mom.

Let me say,

Happy Mother's Day to you (and all mothers everywhere)

Oh, I heart cheese as well. I make this dish that is a packet of the broccoli/cheddar rice mix cooked, put in a casserole then topped with crumbled tortilla chips and LOTS of cheese. I put it under the broiler until the cheese and chips are cruncy brown. Love it....

Don't eat it too much anymore. Frown

Thin crust pizza covered with lots of veggies, particularly red and green peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives, etc etc. I put the pizza under the broiler to crisp the peppers and they are so sweet and crunchy.

Also will second the spaghetti one, I eat it with a couple spoons of salsa which has almost no calories but adds a "bite" to the pasta.

Chef salad with the works, my latest dressing fix is fat free red tomato vinagrette which I thin mix half and half with vinegar (I do all my dressings that way, I just love the tang of vinegar.)

Don't do dessert too often, maybe orange sherbet with fat free CoolWhip piled on top, then I mix it all together like a slushy.

Weight Loss How often do you check your weight? Oct 21 2008
13:14 (UTC)

I weigh every morning (after going to the bathroom) and every night after my  bath. It is fun to watch the progress. It is almost always four pounds lighter in the morning (sometimes three).

I have weighed every morning of my life for the last forty years or more so guess it is a habit now. It's not like it is difficult or anything, the scale is right there on the bathroom floor.

I also like to weigh so I can chart it on my CC graph and see the trendline, etc. Smile

Boy, I can feel your joy.

I weighed 162 last Christmas, started here at 160 in January. Now weigh 143 - havent' seen 150 for a month.

Here's how good it feels, last night my husband and I were watching tv and he said about an actress, Gosh she is too thin. He then said, You look like you are getting a bit too thin as well... I said, What? I weigh 140something. Gee, that felt good. He didn't believe I weighed that much so I drug the scale into the kitchen and weighed in front of him. I wouldn't have done that last winter with a gun to my head...

Stay the course.Smile

Probably not what you want to hear but stay the course.

I started here at 160 last January (actually weighed 162 at Christmas),  can remember being plateaued at 157 for what seemed like weeks.

Now weigh 143/144, haven't seen 150 for about a month.

I just kept doing the right things over and over and then suddenly the body said, Well - okay, she is eating better and exercising so we have to respond.

You will reap the benefits, just stay the course.

And, happy birthday!

Well, I am no doctor nor do I play one on tv Smile but I can say for sure that cutting out diet sodas can only help. That stuff is toxic.

Mustard, hmm can't imagine it causing a problem.

I agree, just use some real sugar or real honey. Neither are that heavily laden with calories in moderation.
