Hi Lisa,

Welcome. I haven't been a member very long but I have lost 4 pounds since Dec 31 when I joined. I need to get motivated and excercise more. Just getting your email was encouraging so I think I will get on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I must admit I have done better on the weeks I have kept track. It's nice travelling this road of motivation and loosing with like minded people. All the best!

Maintaining Is there a forum of people that have reached and maintained their goals? Jan 21 2008

I really like your definition of 'maintaining'. I have never thought of it that way. I was surprised to read that many of the people who lost, maintained a ratio of 20% fat, 20 protein and 60% carbs. I will have to definitely keep this in mind.

I use 1 tbsp. ground flax mixed with 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds and a small fat free yougurt for breakfast. Yum. The ground flax is an excellent source of fibre for those who may need fibre. Start with one tablespoon.

We have snow! It isn't common the get snow in our area, just lots of rain. I finally got my picture posted. I hope I don't scare anyone away. I needed this for a picture ID so decided to use it because it is what I looked like yesterday! chuckle. I had lots of fruit and fibre today and 30 minutes on the treadmill. How is everyone else?

I've been  busy with family visiting so I didn't get on the computer for a couple of days. I haven't been doing too badly with food choices but I need to start exercising. We are moving the treadmill out of my husband's office so I can use it when I 'feel' like exercising. I think you are doing wonderful and it sure is an encouragement for me to get started.

I noticed the sudden spare tire just after I turned fifty. I couldn't believe how quickly my body changed. That is the part that I would really like to get rid of.

I cleaned and did laundry today...I got a lot done. I've decided I am not going to weigh myself weekly. I think I will do it monthly....but I reserve the right to change my mind....I can't wait to loose a pound.

Thanks for the kind wishes and yes, I had a lovely birthday...sniffly cold and all. I live on the mainland near Vancouver and Fransen lives on Vancouver Island on the north part. It is a 2 hour ferry ride and then maybe an hour north. I have indulged in some leftover Christmas chocolates and rather than beat myself up, I've decided to admit it and get on with the calorie counting which I didn't do for a couple of days. Tomorrow I begin fresh and do it right, including exercise. I actually like walking but it's the getting out and doing it...I even forget sometimes....I get watching something on TV and poof, the evening is gone!

I'm going to bed before I eat anything else!

You are so pretty southernblossom...just like your name! Three pounds! Wow. That is three x 1lb packs of butter. That's a whole lot less to drag around. Today I thought of fransen when I heard the alarm go off and was thankful that I could hear. The day went well but tonite my hubby took me to Olive Garden to celebrate my 59th birthday (tomorrow) and I enjoyed every mouthful. I chose seafood but the sauce was probably loaded with calories but I allowed myself to celebrate and passed on dessert. Tomorrow is my one week weigh in...I'll let you know how it goes. I will try to figure how to upload a picture....oh how I hate pictures of me....

Hi There! Just got home from church and had a bowl of sugar puffs and skim milk. I did okay today and stayed within my calorie allotment. I like the little sayings you posted. They are great! I still thank the Lord regularly for my feet, especially when I am going down a flight of stairs. I had such a time doing that after the break.

Tomorrow morning when the alarm rings, I will think of you and be grateful that I can hear...I think...haha

I plan to use my treadmill starting tomorrow. I lost a little weight last summer when I was walking every day and then when I stopped, it all came back. This time I am coupling it with counting calories. Have a great Monday and i will talk to you soon.

Well it looks like our little group is growing. Walking is a step at a time. It is amazing how it all ads up. Health issues may impede the time, but be thankful for 'every' step. I broke my right foot and twisted my left ankle a couple of years ago. One day I was wheeling down a street in my borrowed wheel chair to go to the post office nearby and I noticed a lady with a stroller who was walking her dog. On closer inspection, I noticed that the stroller was harnessed to her waist and was behind her with a little baby in it. The dog was a big black one and was guiding the 'blind' mother. I had a big lesson in gratefulness at that moment. I didn't need to trust a dog to see me and my child across the street, I 'only' had a few temporary problems that if I did what my Dr. told me to, someday would improve. She had a lifetime with her challenge of blindness and I admired her so much. So, if you can even take one street at a time, think of how wonderful it is that you can enjoy the view while you walk. Keep choosing new routes and it will all add up to strenghtening your muscles, lungs, heart and help with the pounds coming off!

Hi. I was so excited to see your post and offer of friendship. It was a yukky day because I have a cold coming on, my daughter in law dropped off a new recipe she made (full of yummy calories) and I ate too much. I was going to have a snack this evening when I decided to log my food and saw your message. No snack for me. I don't need it now because I feel motivated. Funny how someone you have never met can type a few words and change your mood, emotion and stop additional calories from passing the lips! Thanks. How was your day? It is almost over here in BC but tomorrow is going to be a great one! I don't know where in BC you are located but you probably get rain if you are on the coast like I am. That can creat a 'mood' so think of it as liquid sunshine, think of me your buddy who wants you to succeed and think of the next five pounds that are coming off. I went to my cupboard and held a 5 lb. bag of flour and realized how heavy it was. We will soon be less that 5 lb bag of 'fat'. We can do it!
