Hello Allie, I lost the first 30 easily but now I have been fighting the same weight ( up 2 pounds down 2 pounds) for a month. Like you I log and stay in my calorie limit. Exercise is walking 1.5 miles a day, 1/2 hour of lifting, and 15 minutes of stretching. I add belly dancing on Tuesdays and Sundays and add Gilad and/or Cardio Blast on Saturdays. One would think I would be doing better than maintaining. Frankly, I think my body has adjusted to the new demands. I'm now adding 1/2 hour of eliptical to my exercise program rather than cut anymore calories. If I get too hungry I give up altogether and find my nose at the bottom of a carton of ice cream. I am told that plateaus don't last forever. I hope it's true. Mary Beth |

| Please don't worry! I've had to use Pred. (Heavy duty steriod) for months to get my UC under control. While iIdid gain weight, it came right off when I stopped. I did not gain weight until the third or so week and that was because I was so hungry my eating habit ran out of control. | |||

Congrats on your loss! Doesn't it feel so great! The part of this journey is amazing me. I can eat things I enjoy! On a diet Icould never have a glass of wine with dinner. On Weight Watchers, a dozen years ago, more than one piece of fruit was forbidden. On low carb diets I got sick of eating meat and eats. Now I'm learning to eat the foods Ienjoy in moderation. That foods that nurish my body and taste good ( sugar snap pea pods, salmon, tangelos) I am free to eat in abundance! Keep living well! MB |

Thank you so much for posting this thread! Like you I am almost half way now and it's getting harder and harder to lose a pound a week. It's pretty depressing as during the first few weeks the pounds fell away like magic. Every morning the scale rewarded me by showing that the weight loss fairy had visited over night. Now I think the fairy has lost my address! I'm not giving up. I going to keep at it. The food I'm eating tastes great and is good for me. The hour and 20 minutes (minimum) of exercise a day really helps me deal with stress. I'm too tired to focus on the petty stuff after I've worked all my anger out! Maybe I'm so greedy for the end goal that I'm forgetting to enjoy the journey. It IS pretty awesome to stand infront of the closet wailing that nothing fits because it's TOO BIG! : 0 ) Thanks..... I feel much better now! |

We are the secrect to our own weight loss. There are no magic bullets, magic diets, magic pills, or magic exercises. There is only the magic within us that says, " This is it. There are so many different workouts that you never get bored. DON'T GET LONELY: Feeling sad or upset can trigger a binge for me. When I am lonely, I read the motivation forum or play some of the games in the Challenge Forum. SHOP SMART: Stock up on fresh fruits and veggies, lean proteins, high fiber breads, and low cal snacks. Please feel free to add me! I'd love to make friends with others who are developing healthy habits. |

Have you tried "zig zgging" your calories so that your weekly average is the same but you shake up your body because it's never sure what it's going to get? Some swear by this method. For example, this would be my zig zag: Sunday: 1488 Monday: 1637 Tuesday: 1488 Wednesday: 1786 Thursday: 1488 Friday: 1935 Saturday: 1488 |

Has anyone seem the insulation they make out of old blue jeans? My old pairs could keep a family of five warm all winter! Use your old panty hose to tie up tomato vines and to train your climbing roses. The stretch factor allows the plant to grow without harming the tender vascular structure of the plant. Grandma kept a rag bag full of old socks and undies to use as dust clothes. For God's sake please don't knock at my door while I'm dusting...PLEASE! I can't take credit for this one, but a friend suggested wearing an old too big dress belted over a skinny new one. When your pain-in-the-rump co-worker comes by to inspect your lunch and make comments on how you're eating another boring salad again, remove the big dress, toos it to Miss Priss and annouce that she clearly has more use for a plus size than you do! Remember to take bows as the rest of your co0workers applaud and make cat calls! |

Hi! Congrats on selecting a new healthier lifestyle! I've been here at Calorie Counter since Jan. 1, 2008 and have lost 27 pound. My starting weight was 210 and with all the Christmas goodies and holiday drinks I was ingesting, I was eating 3000 to 4000 calories a day. I am now eating 1550 calories a day and exercising a minimum of an hour and a half a day. The first week I lost 9 pounds! most of it had to have been water weight. Some of it might have been the dramatic shift in lifestyle. I'm now losing about 2 pounds a week and am delighted to be wearing jeans 2 sizes smaller. My only advice to you is that you may want to eat a few more calories to slow the weight loss to a healthier rate. it's much better for you in the long run. MB |

I know it sounds a bit daft but I place hand weights and an exercise band beside the television. I've made a deal with myself that i will not sit and watch TV for more than half an hour. If there are two shows i want to watch, I exercise through one. I'm far less of a couch potato now even when the wind, rain, and snow refuse to allow me out of doors.

Your sandwhich sounds like a great idea. I'm big on tangelos, DanActive yogurt shots, baby carrots (all the crunch and none of the guilt) and sugar snap pea pods (so sweet they ought to be sold in the candy aisle). They are all very quick to pack, won't mess up the car, and fill you up very quickly. I tend to like to graze and eat small amounts frequently. The above snacks keep me happy without wrecking my calorie, fat, and sodium counts. |

While having my teeth cleaned last week, the young hygenist smiled and told me I was looking good. proudly I proclaimed that I had lost 20 pounds. "Wow!" she exclaimed, " You lost them and I found them!" Not knowing how to reply I must have looked stricken! She just laughed, " No, no it's ok I'm pregant!" The pretty little thing is tall and thin. I had not noticed the slight bump beneath her smock! Ever since, the imagine of carrying an infant day and night for years on end has haunted me. Like you, I think of finally setting down the young child who is the equalivant of 75 pounds. As I teach first grade, that child could be one of my students! |

| Welcome nicoleamelia! It's great to have you as a part of our group. When I had to go on a liquid fast (I have UC) my GI told me to drink lots of sparkling water. The carbonation does help one fight feeings of hunger but I certainly don't recommend liquid fasts as a weight loss method! | |||

Sometimes Co-Workers feel the need to compete at personal levels. This woman may very well feel that your new figure threatens her position in the workplace. No matter what she thinks or what she says, you are in control of your reaction! She is merely a thorn in your paw. Sugarless gum might your feelings of hunger as might drinking more water. When you can eat at work, plan your meals so that they include large amounts of fiber that will help you feel very full. If you have to speak to Miss Thorn, beat her to the punch. Ask after her children, hobbies, or other interests. Keep the focus off yourself. Remember, the hardest part of professionalism is learning that we have no permanent friends, no permanent enemies. Miss Thorn is going to to help you with that lesson like it or not. |

BANISH BOREDOM BINGES! Are you falling prey to the mindless munchies? Is your willpower great until work is over and the television is on? Here are a few ideas to give you a little more will power when the going is tough! 1. STAY FULL. Many people find that it's easier to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day than to have just 3. Center these meals around foods that are low in calories but high in fiber. When you've had a big salad at dinner, it's easier to pass up the popcorn when the kids put on the DVD. 2. DRINK UP. Those 8 glasses of water a day really help flush the old fat out, keep you hydrated, and fight the feeling of hunger. 3. REMOVE TEMPTATION. It's just Too easy to munch if the bag of chips is sitting right in front of us! DON'T bring food to the television or, only bring the portion you know you are alloted instead of the entire bag. Don't leave the chips, cookies, and peanuts laying on the kitchen counter. Put them away on a shelf that is a hassle to reach. You might even wish to use dark storage containers so you will not see the snacks. 4. FOCUS ON YOUR FOOD. Try not to eat while driving, chatting on the phone, reading, or watching TV. It's too easy to go overboard while you are distracted. 5. ONLY EAT AT THE TABLE. Ever notice how easy it is to nibble 200 or 300 hundred calories as you fix dinner? Ever finish anything off your child's plate? Don't eat until you are sitting down and remember to stop when you leave the table. 6. CHEW GUM. Sometimes it's easier to not give into snacking when you have a piece of sugarless gum in your mouth. It also gives you an excuse to pass up your mother-in-laws special cookies, " Oh I'd love to but I just put this stick of gum in my mouth!" 7. WALK AWAY. The no brainer part of this solution is to simply simply step away from the M&M's. The "Higher Level" solution is to go take a walk around the block and see if the craving for the M&M's subsides. Remember, if you can't resist take one bite then ask yourself, " Is this really worth the extra calories?" If it's not, STOP EATING IT. It is worth it, try to limit your portion size.

I've got the same crumby flu. Mild stretching is helping with some of the joint. I've always been told not to do any cardio or lifting while having a fever so I've been a slug for the last three days. Rest is helping. Green tea with a little honey and lemon helps. Chicken Noodle soups helps (it might be the comfort food effect.) Long steamy showers help. Get well soon! |

I ask my hubby to take sweet treats to work with him. He still gets all the goodies, and I get them out of the house. Two minutes in the staff room and POOF no more treats! I also look for the sweets I dislike but he enjoys. This way, if there are left overs, I'm not really tempted. WARNING: On a very bad day you may pick at these treats. There is no written rule that says a sweet treat has to be from the bakery or candy shop. Have you introduced your children to mangoes, prunes, or fresh pineapple? These are "no guilt" treat you can nibble too and enjoy the pride of instilling better eating habits. Air popped pop corn with a squeeze of lime and a shake of cayenne pepper tastes like the popular commerical chips but is healthier by far.

| I'm on the "Kick the Sodium" phase of changing my life. I've found that packing my lunch the night before ( salads, low fat yogurt, watery fruit) really helps. I've also learned that I can steam veggies in the micro way in just a few minutes! The broccoli florettes one buys in the produce aisle come in a bag one just pops into the microwave. Green beans and sugar snap peas can be found in such bags as well. Failing the ready to nuke bags, cut up zucchini, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach, and red bell pepper and place them in a covered bowl. Microwave them for 4 minutes and you'll be in heaven. If you find plain veggies bland, add a little basil or rosemary before you cook them. If one adds a little non-fat ricotta to the veggies, one creates a delightful low-cal vegan dinner! It's such a treat on a cold, rainy evening. | |||
