Bier: He does sleep with me usually after 3-4Am but I find I don't sleep good. I'm too nervous and don't fall into a deep sleep. Plus, he wants to be permanently attached to my boob and I hate sleeping on my side.
Spuckine: I have heard of this before, do you know how long the frequent feedings last for? Unfortunately my husband works nights but he has a few days off soon. |

I usually keep my area really well waxed. I cant shave because of the irritation. When I was pregnant, I let it grow and grow and grow and grow. I was quite horrified when I gave birth and finally was able to see down there. It was like a very dense forest. I litterally had to bush wack before I could even wax. But its back to normal now, thank goodness. |

I had a lot of joint pain when I ws pregnant. My doctor said it was because of a hormone that is released to loosen up your joints, this makes them very prone to injury and soreness. Its supposed to help your pelvis loosen up for birth but it affects every joint in your body. She recommended to me not to do anything that causes any pain or discomfort and stick to low impact excercises, otherwise it can cause severe injuries that would still be there after pregnancy. |

beccajmartin: It was just a friend who told me it was folliculitis. However, my arms definately look like keratosis. I get small white-heads but nothing like the first picture. I'll try the cream for sure, I remember seeing some that had alpha-hydroxy and I don't think they were that expensive. Thanks. chelslaw: look in the drugstore for this cream, you don't need a prescription and I think most of the major brands carry some type of this cream. |

no, my brother is Matt Bergen. No relation to Jason. It is hard to get all the calories when eating that much protein. Some days I'm only getting 1200-1300. It seems weird to be eating when your not hungry. but you have to eat all the time! |

OK this is pretty wierd, what are the chances, I graduated in 94 from Sardis, my brother in 92. My parents still live in Sardis. My maiden name was Bergen. I found that my sugar cravings lasted only a few days, them it was pretty easy to stay at 30% carbs. Atleast its only temp. otherwise I don't know how motivated I would be. |

brigatta1, I grew up in Chilliwack! I havn't seen too many poeple from Canada on here. I'm up north now, better off considering all the murders lately eh? I'm happy to say I dropped another pound, thats 4 total. Not craving so many carbs anymore, but I've had to hide the leftover easter candy. I am having a hard time coming up with more lean protein choices. Joebreese, I would love to spend more time in a gym but I have three kids and theh youngest is 2 months old and very cholicky. I live in a very small town and there aren't any classes that you are describing. Plus the daycare at the gym is only 3 days a week for 2 hours. This program is perfect for people who just can't get out of the house. |

I'm just finishing week 2 and its pretty cool. I've been working out in a gym for 17 years but after my 3rd child in Feb, I needed something to get me into shape for my wedding in August. I didn't lose any weight the first week but lost 3 pounds in the 2nd when I started to follow the diet part of it. My protien is at 50%, carbs 30% and fat 20%. Its pretty hard as my body is still craving sugar but well worth the effort. |

Perhaps you should try to not concentrate so much on the calories but where the calories are coming from. Your diet consists of all prepackaged, chemical injected foods. No wonder your body is holding onto the fat, your not feeding it enough actual food. Your body is starving for lean proteins, good fats and vitamins and minerals. Your not getting near enough fruits or vegetables. Your body is holding onto everything just like as if you were in starvation mode from too few calories. Eating a balanced diet is essential to losing weight, you can't just look at the amount of calories. Plus you will have so much more energy for your little one. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Not losing weight while breastfeeding :( | Jan 13 2009 15:55 (UTC) |

I found the same thing with both my children, but the problem wasn't my thyroid. There is a theory that a woman's body holds onto some fat during breastfeeding for times of famin, obviously not relevent to todays food supply. However, thousands of years ago there were many times throughout the year when food supply was less and the theory says that our bodies have changed to accomodate for this. As soon as I stopped breastfeeding the weight came off rather quickly. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Flu Shot | Sep 29 2008 15:34 (UTC) |

Now that we've gone off topic, hahah. I wish I lived in more of a farming area. I live in northern British columbia and have a very short growing season. We have to import all our fruits and veggies from other countries. I wash everything but I know it doesn't get rid of all the junk. I guesse thats why I'm more pro flu shot. Living up here makes it harder to access organic foods and I believe all the chemicals reek havock on our immune systems. I hope, Bier, that some of the info has helped. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Flu Shot | Sep 29 2008 01:54 (UTC) |

I an a nurse in an extended care home. I get the flu shot every year, pregnant or not. However, its not for my own health, its for the patients. They are very frail and bringing flu viruses into the facility would literally kill them. I have two children and have never gotten flu shots for them. If you teach them proper handwashing and coughing techniques ( into the inside elbow, not the hands), most viruses can be avoided. Furthermore, the flu shot isn't garanteed to work and is only effective on predicted viruses. They also don't prevent any gastro-intestinal viruses (stomach flu). I don't think there is a lot of statistical data on pregnant women who get the flu shot but I personally havn't had a problem with it. As per Shill's comment on the hep B shot. Hep B is not usually transmitted through sex, Hep C is. You can get Hep B from anything like food or a cantaminated surface on an open wound. It can greatly reduce your lifespan and quality of health. If you leave the country, get vaccinated. The healthcare industry usually requires it to even work in a facility. There are too many risks. Besides, vaccines are far less harmful than the crap they put in processed foods or shampoos and beauty products. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Flying at 35 weeks | Jun 09 2008 17:29 (UTC) |

If you are able to fly, I would suggest wearing a pair of support knee-high socks. They will prevent possible blood clots from sitting so long and will keep your lower legs from swelling up too much. I wear them throughout my pregnancies on the advice from my doctor to prevent vericose veins. |

hey everybody. My name is Heather and I'm 51/2 weeks pregnant. I have been on theis website months ago and lost 10 pounds. I'm so glad that there is a section for pregnancy, I tend to gain weight really easily when pregnant and want to track a healthly weight gain throughout my pregnancy. This is my third, I have an 8 and 5 year old. I just found out last week and I am already showing. I was a bloody house with my son and I think I'm having a litter now! I'm pretty short, only 5'2, so I think there is only one direction to go, out! I'm just worried about stretch marks from growing too big, any suggestions? Glad to be on here, hoping to make some friends and a good support system. H |

| Its been awhile since I've been on this forum. I was doing pretty good by myself, got down to 132 and felt really great. Then I had a week long business trip in vancouver and gained 3 pounds. Since I've been back, its been two weeks, I have slowly gained everything back. I'm now 140, which is what I started at. I havn't been as diligent the past few weeks but I thought that I was still eating pretty good and excercising every day. Needless to say, I'm feeling so discouraged. Do I start all ever again, it took my two months to lose 8 pounds and 3 weeks to gain it all back, or do I just try to accept the way I look now. Whats the point in losing the weight I want when the loss is so fragile, will I be stuck counting my calories everyday of my life so it doesn't come back on. I'm feeling so depressed because I failed at something I was doing so well at. What do I do, I'm afraid of failing again. | |||

I havn't heard of acually gaining weight from diet pills but there are a lot of other health reasons to stay away from certain types. Diet pills containing epherine or mua huang are very dangerous, they raise your heart rate and core temperature so you burn more calories throughout the day, however many people have died from this drug. If you have any heart problems, even if they are small and unknown to the user, it intensifies and cause irreparable damage or death. Young, fit people have died of heart attacks. As for all the other ones, I've tried some and really have had no effect as good old fasioned diet and exercise. |

Hello everybody. It's been a few days but I'm back on nights so my days are a little screwed up. I'm down to 135.5 as of yesterday and I feel awsome. My inches aren't moving too much but my clothes are fitting a little looser. I have been working out pretty hard doing 45 min. cardio and 45 min. weights 4 times a week and then a long run 6-7 miles once a week. My boyfriend has been working out with me and is liking it but whines a lot whe he's sore the next day, the baby. I'm just impressed he got his but off the couch!!! It is sooo cold here, -45C with the wind chill. its been like that for 3 days and should continue into next week. Unfortunately it won't be enough to kill the pine beetles that have killed about 15% of British columbias forests, especially where I live. We need another 2 weeks for that to happen. I have discovered a way to stick with this diet and still allow my rebelious side to play a part. I purposely count my calories a little low and then allow myself to cheat. I don't go overboard but its enough to feel sneaky and maybe give in to my sweet cravings without feeling guilty or sacrificing my goal. It sounds cheesy like people who set there alarm clocks forward 10 minutes so they aren't late even though they know its not the right time. But its working for me. |

Hey everybody, its been a couple of days. Had 2 days off and now I'm back onto two nightshifts, these quick turnarounds are reaking havoc on my emotions. Its a good thing my bf is pretty patient. i have a technical question, does anybody else have problems uploading photos? everytime I try, it says that an error occured and to contact customer service. My profile pic was the only one that would upload and it was from the same file as the others. I would like to change it as my head gets cut off. I bought a new yoghurt maker last week, my first batch tasted pretty good. I figured it would be much cheaper than buying it as I eat a lot. Plus we don't have recycling facilities for the plastic containers and I feel pretty guilty throwing them away. Any ideas for high protein foods, I don't seem to get enough. I love cottage cheese but recently found out how much sodium is in it, ouch!! My doctor wants me to have low sodium because I get puffy ankles when i work and am on my feet all day. Which means I also have to stay away from things like deli meats lke turkey and chicken breasts, another thing I really like. Jem599- I heard that those body fat scales aren't very effective. The last time i steped onto it I weighed about 135 and my supposed body fat % was 35!! I almost cried. But apparently there are alot of variables like how much water you drink that day. I prefer tracking my weight and measurements and how my clothes fit. Katie- glad to have you aboard, I'm pretty new as well and am really finding this website helpfull. I have an 8 year old daughter that i wish was more active, she is a little overweight. How did you develope such a positive attitude about excercise with your son? |

| even though aspartame doesn't contain any calories, your body can have an insulin response to it, almost like the full sugar pops. By creating insulin "spikes" your body lowers its metabolism and you won't burn calories as effectively. | |||

| Ok, so maybe there weren't a lot of holocaust victims who were fat, but how many also DIED from starvation. I think your doctor is crazy, I'm a nurse and that sort of thinking is not normal. I am 5'2 and when I started three weeks ago i was 140, now I'm 136.5. I usually eat around 1500-1600 calories a day and workout 5 days a week doing 45 min cardio and 45 min weights. | |||

| I find it hard to reach my food intake sometimes too, especially when i'm on night shift. I always make sure though that my ratio is correct, 20%fat, 30% protein and 50% carbs, including 25 gr of fibre and less than 2000mg sodium. I don't like to force myself to eat if I'm not hungry but I absolutely never let my intake get below 1300. | |||
| Weight Loss | The cost of food... eat healthy cost a lot. It is really hard for me to purchase healthy food... any one else in this situation? | Jan 22 2008 18:22 (UTC) |

| I also have issues with budgeting for food. I usually buy a box of boneless skinless chicken breasts and it goes a lons way, its also versatile. You can use is for stir fries, cut up into sandwiches, casseroles or broiled whole. I also have an awsome trick for ground beef. Cook it up in a frying pan then put it into a collander and rinse it under the hottest tap water possible. All the fat drains off and your left with really lean meat. Plus you can get away with buying reg. ground meat instead of the more expensive lean varieties. Your family won't even notice. | |||

One more night to go and I canget back to the gym. I actually miss it when i get into the workout mode. It's amazing how much energy I get from one workout. A little nervous about the weigh in tomorrow. Hopefully it goes good, could use some encouragment. Colleen- I actually live about 4hours from Alaska but I've never been there. Always meant to just always travelled south instead. A bosu ball is a brutal class, its like a step class but instead of using a sturdy step, your stepping up and down onto a bosu ball. The first time I did it, I realized that I am not coordinated at all. i thought I was going to break my ankles or at the very least, make a complete fool out of myself. You also do lunges and lots of squats, pushups and resistance training. Joan- 6 protein bars!! Any good ones? I've tried a few but they all seem to taste like fake food. |

Hey guys, I'm on night number two. I tried to sleep before work last night but got a call from my boss saying he was sending me to vancouver next month for a geriatric pyschology practicum. I was soo excited i couldn't sleep. The weather was so warm yesterday, 1-2C, I wanted to go out for a run but a moose mother and her calve decided to eat my apple tree and i wasn't gonna go outside with them out there. So I went to the gym before work and ran 5 miles with the incline on 5%. It felt so good even though I was on the treadmill. I slept all day today and missed any sunlight. The gym closes early on the weekends so I'm going to take today and tomorrow off. Back at it on monday though with Carla's bosu ball class, its insane. Sherry, If you have a vaporizor, it help alot. They are usuall pretty cheap ($20-30), just make sure you don't use a humidifyer, they don't work as well. At night put it close to the head of her bed. I use it all the time when I'm sick, and it works awsome. |

| If your worried about not dong anything when your off, join a fitness group or some other activity. Anything that will get you out of the house several times a week, as long as it doesn't center around eating out or drinking. I find on my days off I work out for an hour and half but then sit infront of the tv for the rest of the day. if I had more activites to do I would always be on the move. Join a walking, yoga, swimming, pilates, or a hiking group. | |||

Hey everybody, I'm pleased to say I weighed myself this morning and that two pounds is gone again, I really drank lots of water yesterday. Had to go to the lou way to many times in the night though. If I could lose one more pound by monday then I will average 1 per week. Its not huge but hey atleast its something. Joan: I have been lifting weights forever too, since I was 15. I just started getting into more cardio in the last 2-3 years. I found that I was getting pretty bulky, however with a layer of fat on top, it just didn't look good. I switched to lighter weights with higher reps and I find that it works really good for me. I'm not sure if I just took a really long time to figure out what works with my body or if I just adjust my workouts to my aging body. I'd love to hear what you do for weights. Srogers: I usually suffer from constipation too, in the morning I started to eat plain yogurt with berries, 1tbsp ground flax and 2tbsp cracked hemp seeds (you can find them in the health foods store). I don't have a problem anymore! I also like wasa crackers, they are very high in fiber. Who would have thought this would be the topic of conversation between strangers.

| I also had cellulitis in my leg. It was in my shin though, which isn't as obvious as your calves (less tissue to lose). This was last year and I still am missing tissue and have a blackened area that always looks bruised. My shin bone is right under my skin, needless to say, I'm very careful not to bang it on anything. I was reasured by my doctor that the tissue should return but it may take a few years. Considering its already been a couple of years for you, have you gone back to your doctor? If the damage is permanent, there may be nothing you can do. | |||

hey fellow health enthusiasts. I'm new to the website (jan 1,08) but not new to the wonderful world of diet and excercise. I have been weightlifting since I was 15 years old but never had issues with my wieght until my children were born, now 8and 4. Since then I havn't been able to lose that last 15 pounds, (currently 140 and 5'2) no matter what I do. I've counted calories before only to get down 6 pounds max and then slowly work my way back up. I've had my thyroid checked and everything is normal. I eat really good, avoiding any pre-packaged foods, refined sugars and trans fats. I train for triathlons but am thinking of switching to marathons this year (I see there a couple of you who also like to torture yourselves). However, I live in Northern British Columbia, we only get about 8 hours of sunlight and the normal temp is -10 to -15C, I can't run outside yet and I don't know if I can stand another boring run on the treadmill. The first week on here, I lost 2 pounds, the second I gained it back. I'm already feeling discouraged! I love the way my upper body and abs look but my hips are a little off. I have a 27 inch waist and a 40 inch hips. I have tried to just love my body but thats always short lived and easily done when parkas are the standard atire for 6 months of the year. But when our 6 weeks of summer start, I want to look good in my bikini! Sorry if I'm ranting but I could use some encouragement and this group sounds like what I need. I'm always looking for more friends to share this experience. Heather |
