This week: 162.0 Last week: 161.2 Gain: .8 lb Beginning of year: 177 End of year: 162 Total loss this year: 15 LBS!!!! Although I did not meet my challenge goal, I must reflect on what an amazing year it has been for me on the site. When I started here on January 1st 2008, I weighed 177. With CC I was able to move from being "slightly overweight" to having a healthy BMI. I still cannot believe that I lost 15 pounds! Most of it fell off in the the early stages, and I've been on this plateau in the lower 60's (for the past couple of months) that doesn't want to budge. I pretty happy at this weight, and although there are some places that I'd like to improve, I'm not going to beat myself up about it. My goal for 2009 is to keep exercising, and eating well. I'm confident that it will all eventually fall into place =) This will be my last weigh in for this challenge because I will be leaving the country on Friday, and won't have access to a scale. I'll be away for a month, but when I come back to the US, I'll be working hard towards my goals! 2008 was amazing, and I have a feeling that 2009 is going to be even better. We already have the tools, and we know how to use them, so let's put them to good use for the new year. Congratulations to all of you! Many of you have made significant strides! Oceangirl: You must be feeling very good about your loss =) v-avila: 7.2 pounds is great! Saarap: Woo hoo! 10 lbs in this challenge, you will see the 160's very soon carlynj21: Sometimes we do need breaks. It is very difficult to not eat what everyone else is having, especially during the holidays. During Thanksgiving, and Christmas time (aka now! lol) I take a lot of breaks from counting calories, an make sure that I exercise a lot, and then give myself permission to eat whatever I want. leanne: Doesn't it feel good to say "I'm done"! Congrats!! oakmommy: You've lost an amazing amount of weight. Congratulations and thanks for putting this together =) courduroyfirekills3: I hope your finals are over! My last one finished today. It's so stressful. Hopefully this was a better week for you! I'll be back to CC in February when I get back from my trip. Keep it up the good work!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year's to you all |

Way to go Oakmommy! Woo hoo This week: 162.2 Last week: 161.8 Gain .4 lbs This week i'm up by .4 lbs. I've been eating at maintenance, but I've been exercising like a dog. Perhaps I should cut out the salt. Well on the bright side, I have dents on my legs from all of the running, squats, lunges and dips I'm doing. I'm really excited because my legs are getting really hard and they look freakin awesome Next challenge, get the belly down!!! It sticks out way too much. I'll find a way :) I have two and a half weeks before I leave on my vacation/study abroad trip. I'll be happy leaving this challenge in a few weeks knowing that although I didn't lose the 10%, I've toned up and I look better |

This week - 12/1: 161.8 lbs I still didn't fully recover from my immense 4 lb gain last week, but I'm cool with this. I absolutely stuffed my face for thanksgiving, but in order to make up for it, before my meal I ran on my treadmill like a madwoman. In fact, this whole week i ran like a crazy person. I got 4 workouts this week, go me! xP I've been pushing myself to go faster. It gets quite uncomfortable, but hey..if I don't push myself, I won't be seeing any results right? lol Wow, I'm impressed, a lot of losses for Thanksgiving week! Keep it up ladies! Oakmommy, you are very close to the 130's! At the rate you've been losing, we might see you there next week! |

Wow Ocean girl, I'm just remembering that you are so far away! It's 11 am over there and 8 pm here in NY. As far as the exercise situation goes, is there can you stay in an air conditioned room and do some work outs on your own? (lunges, squats, jog in place, jumping jacks) you know there are a number of short work outs on Youtube...pilates and even the drill types. It's a shame you can't get out because it's so hot! Have fun in NZ!! =) |

This week - 11/24: 164.0 lbs WOW! It was my birthday on Thursday and I had cake, and chocolates, but what really threw me off was an all you can eat buffet I went to. AHHHH!!! I want to scream!!! It's TTOM, so I don't know if water retention is one of the causes... I just refuse to believe that 2 days of bad eating will bring me up so much (isn't a lb 3,500 calories?) Four lbs would mean that I had a 14,000 calories over my maintenance right?...err whatever. I hate my crazy weight fluctuations. The extra weight is not showing....so I'm not going to let this discourage me. Gosh...I'm going to go on overdrive working out tomorrow and wednesday so that Thanksgiving doesn't kill me! LOL Wow Oakmommy24 go you! Your loss is amazing! Kary 619 =) You must be feeling great!! Diva, I'm so happy you are back on this and motivated. I'm glad to see your loss and even happier that you stuck with it instead of dropping out. You are unstoppable Carlynj21 when I want to snack I always go for the popcorn hehe...and I eat a lot of it! It doesn't cause that much damage..just the salt does. Congrats! |

Last Week: 162.8 This Week: 162 Loss: .8 lbs.
Wow you ladies are doing fabulous! Keep it up! Especially Oakmommy and denalou! Both of you 4 lbs in a week!!! wow..I need to catch up with you both! Digitalkitt don't worry it's a little bump, you'll lose next week. Merylwhite I'm glad you are home =) Diva NOOO Do not give up!!! Stick to it!!! Just think of it this way...You can make a lot of progress from here to the New Year. Reward yourself with something nice for each lb you lose. Don't get frustrated, sometimes it is very difficult. You can do it! This week was hard. I'm very surprised I lost weight...There was still candy all over the house from Halloween. (thank god it's gone!) I'm really going to focus. My trip to Brazil is only 40 something days away... As I was eating a piece of toast with nutella as a snack, I was thinking about my trip and did something silly this afternoon. I put post-its all over my room saying: 12 lbs by 12/12 and 1200 a day (1600 with exercise)...haha When something gets into my head I really go for it without thinking, I just do it. Let's see if I can do this! (The last time I lost 10 lbs in a month was when I first started at CC I went from 177 to 167) This is going to be 12 lbs (i feel like I have a lot of catching up to do)...errrr....Let's see if I can stick to eating less and working out more =) I'm optimistic about it. It will be a great week for us all |

Hey guys! this week - 164.0 last week - 165.4 Loss: 1.4lbs (woop woop!) I got my monthly "friend" this morning. I feel really bloated, but I'm glad to finally see a loss =) I've been exercising and eating well all week. I'm sure next week will be when I really start to see the loss. (Getting close to the 150's again yay!!!) digitalkitt: I need to keep up with you! Hehe, looks like you'll be seeing the 50's very soon congrats! By the way, I got my Peels this morning. I'm going to try them tonight on the stretch marks. I'll let you all know how it goes as time passes. (I hear it burns a lot...let's see what happens....)

Original Post by carlynj21: It's very frustrating to see the fluctuations. One night my weight was 169 and the next morning it was 163 (6 lbs overnight!!!) I drank a lot of water the day before. It's strange the way our body holds on to the weight. For me it's usually because of water or salt intake. It's an obsessive habit to check everyday, but it keeps me on track lol. |

This Week: 165.2 Last Week: 164.4 Gain: 0.8 lb I've eaten well and worked out 4x this week. Did a lot of strength training...my legs are firmer (I and my scales say that I lost .3% of body fat)..Maybe this is muscle gain? Either way I'm alright with it because I feel slimmer :) Next week will hopefully bring a loss! |

Thanks for answering my question guys :) I didn't retain that night! I never knew parsley and lemon juice helps eliminate the water. Those will be my allies on those salty nights lol |

Original Post by oakmommy24: Hey, I'm not a mommy, but I do have stretch marks from growing and I have tried a lot of things to get rid of them, including something called "Carboxy Therapy" which are injections of CO2 directly into the sm's. (It didn't go that well, and it hurt a lot!). I hear that lasers are not very effective and they are quite expensive, so...My newest venture to get rid of the marks are by using TCA peels. You apply it to the mark and it acts like a chemical peel, but deeper. I didn't start doing it yet, but I ordered the TCA peel recently. As soon as I get it, I'll let you all know how it goes.

When I have the time to work out, I get on my treadmill, do The Firm DVD work-outs or dance (even by myself haha) :) I have started doing all three again. My goal for this challenge is to get at least 2 days of sculpting a week along with 2-3 days of cardio. I can sculpt and do the cardio on the same days so it'll be 3 days of work outs and 4 days of rest. I don't want to overdo it...This is manageable for me at the moment. When I try to do too much, I don't stick to it. I bought some fun workouts to change things up a bit (I hate running on the treadmill). This one is my favorite: It's a lot of fun |

This Week: 164.4 Goal (revised): 148 (wow..I don't think I've seen the 140's since I was a pre-teen :-D) I started taking this seriously in the middle of last week so I already have a little loss, woo hoo! (I was 165.8 last week, giving me a loss of 1.4 So I guess 164.4 will be my official starting weight and 148 be my official 10%. mlj83081: My biggest secret is snacking all the time. I tend to get very hungry when I cut my calories so I prepare snack bags at home that I can take with me when I'm at school. (Whole wheat cereal, a couple of nuts, dried fuits, cut up carrots, berries). When I'm at home and can control the times I eat, I try to have little meals. I cut my lunch in half if I can and eat one half early, and the other half later. I also try to avoid eating my dinner too late at night. Good luck :)

I have a MacBook as well and I love it. It didn't take long to learn how to figure everything out. It's also very fast and it doesn't crash and get bugs/viruses like my other window's pc. It's a little expensive, but totally worth it :) |

Name: Nicole Age: 20 I started CC January 1 2008 at 177 lbs. In 5 months I managed to get all the way down to 158 lbs! I looked very good and was very proud of my results, but I've fallen off the bandwagon over the summer (stressful job, big family issue). I wanted to lose the weight initially because I saw a picture of myself in a party and I did not like what I saw at all. I packed on the pounds slowly through highschool and college, and just didn't like how I looked. I was also beginning to pack on the weight in places that I never got fat in (my stomach and my arms!). Another motivation for me is a trip to Brazil that I will be taking in January. I want to look better in my bathing suit! When I'm focused, I'm focused, and I'm very motivated right now. I will be looking forward to the progress we will all make. Good luck to all Nicole |

Wow, I feel like I have met my twins. I'm 5'9 and weigh 165. I started out on this site in January (at 177 lbs) and managed to get down to the 150's (in May), however, because of a lot of stress over the summer I gained some of the weight back. I'm very focused now and I'd like to go down to 150 by January. (I'm going to Brazil in January so I just have to lose it all lol It is true, because we are tall, we do carry it well, but there are always those problem areas that we have to work on. For me it's the arms and belly....gotta tone up!!!! Good luck ladies! |

Hi there, I can definitely relate to the quick weight gain. I once gained 8 lbs in one day and I didn't eat anything bad, it was completely related to my period. Menstruation can really make you bloat. I'd drink loads of water, especially if salt (another big bloat factor for me) is in the mix :) |

I know what you are talking about! When I work out very very hard I get the same smell in my nose. The only other time besides working out that I got the smell was when I fell when I was younger and hit my head really hard. I blacked out and smelled ammonia. I really wonder what causes this while working out (especially since I can relate this to a terrible head injury as a child). |

Usually during it I gain a couple of lbs. I get really bloated and I only get back to normal when it's over. It sucks when I do a weigh in during those days, because it seems like I didn't make any progress. |

Whenever I'm under the weather and don't feel like eating, I love having soy milk. It has a lot of nutrients that you might be missing out on today. Also, you can try some nuts, they are soo small and calorie dense. |

| Weight Loss | Is it even possible? | Mar 27 2008 00:55 (UTC) |
|
It's definitely doable. Just make sure you are sensible with your calories and pay attention to the deficit (as birdy22 mentioned). Working out may give your metabolism a great boost! I never used to exercise, however when I started counting calories and exercising, I was shocked to see that I lost 10 lbs in the first month :-) To give you an idea...I started out very slowly at once per week for half an hour (Because I hate being on the treadmill...but that's my only option) and made sure that if I did work out, that I gave myself a very challenging work out. I moved it up to 2 days per week and the weight came off at 2 lbs a week. When I stop working out, the weight loss slows to about 1 lb a week. If you work out a couple of days a week, you can definitely reach your goal. Just make sure you are challenging yourself and that you make yourself sweat. Also, don't forget to tone up! A little muscle can make you look very slender + the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn. Additionally, make sure you eat well and that you have a good amount of protein and complex carbs so that your body has the fuel it needs. Good luck :-) |

| Weight Loss | a few questions... | Mar 15 2008 16:18 (UTC) |
|
Why don't you try soy milk? There are light versions with lower calories (about 70 cals a cup). You can also try the light and fit yogurts since you are worried about your caloric intake. They only have 60 calories and have 15% of your daily calcium needs. You can replace one of your snacks with the yogurt...or even better...have 2 and thats 30% of your calcium all by snacking. If you like fish, try sardines. They are an excellent source of calcium. You can also have some almonds...they have some calcium. As for diet coke...why don't you substitute it for some club soda? There are flavored kinds also. |

Original Post by jenmcc: Jenmcc, Thank you very much for the post. You gave very good advice and explained everything very well. I have also been hearing about Omega 3 Fatty Acids as foods that slim you down. Actually last week I read an article saying that you can lose belly fat by having 5 spoons of olive oil a day. They did say that you must work off the extra calories but by having the oil it will help get rid of the inflammation. The link is in Portuguese, but here it is for those of you that understand or want to translate it: http://boaforma.abril.uol.com.br/edicoes/249/ fechado/Dieta/conteudo_753.shtml The diet promises that you will lose 4 kilos (~9 lbs) in 15 days, but that just seems like an exaggeration, and if you do, it sounds unhealthy for your weight to go down that fast. But then again, I've never tried something like this and I don't know what adding so many good fats will do to your body. The article mentions a study from the British Journal of Nutrition. If I find it I will pass it on to all of you :-) |

| Exactly! That's the same thing I thought. Perhaps it depends on the kind of cardio? If you run your legs will get slimmer, but how about the stomach? You are burning calories, so why won't it go? It is confusing. | |||
