This site has some good parenting advice on rebellious children and how to establish peace in the home again: www.nogreaterjoy.org Hope that helps... BTW, as long as he's under your roof you DO have the right to take away any privileges, including his phone.

| Young Calorie Counters | Excuses to not drink alcohol? | Nov 21 2009 18:41 (UTC) |
4 |
Well, the reason I don't drink alcohol is because I'm a Christian (the Bible forbids drunkeness). People *usually* respect that. Usually. If I were in your shoes I would just tell your friends the truth. You can't drink it because it'll ruin your health plan. If they pressure you anyways they can't really be true friends... They should want what's best for you. |

| Foods | any ideas for creamer substitute with coffee? | Apr 30 2008 01:47 (UTC) |

I just work real half n' half into my calories for the day. Most substitute creamers are full of processed (junk) ingredients whereas the real cream is good for you. |

| Foods | Any one use Stevia | Apr 28 2008 08:05 (UTC) |

I use the (white powder) stevia and it's great. Never experienced any problems or side effects. I also have no interest in what governments approve, especially the EU. It's best to do your own research and use discretion. |

| Weight Loss | clothing while you're "in the middle" and when do you buy new clothes? | Apr 24 2008 06:40 (UTC) |
13 |
Wow, boy do I hear ya. I'm at that exact stage right now. I've gone from 175 to 161 lbs and my clothes are baggy and dumpy BUT I cannot fit into the next size down yet. What to do? It doesn't help that I hit a plateau. I want to get down to my next pants size so I don't feel so ragged anymore. Unforunately it takes me a looong time to go down in clothing sizes (regardless of how many pounds I'm losing).

| Weight Loss | soy for weight loss | Apr 08 2008 06:06 (UTC) |

Be careful with soy. It is full of hormones and has been linked to many health issues. The health industry is pushing it hard because it's so cheap to put in their products. You can research this easily online. |

| Fitness | Army and Weight. | Apr 07 2008 14:13 (UTC) |

I was a Soldier in the US Army and I had to lose weight before I could qualify to get in. Once I was down to 136 lbs (I'm 5'3 and female) I joined and made it in. It was very important that I got down to that weight at the time as I wasn't going to get a break for a long time to come after that. Lots of looong marches with over 55 lbs of gear on, lots of runs, never sitting down, climbing over towers and etc etc... I'm afraid I know nothing about the army experience in Israel though so I really can't answer your question specifically... God Bless. |

Perhaps you should get checked to make sure you aren't allergic to them? (Itching in the throat can be an allergic reaction). I don't know what to say about the teeth/biting into them problem (are you eating them cold, right out of the fridge? Cold foods can sometimes make sensitive teeth ache).

Army wife here. Just got out of the Army myself. We are overseas at the time but we'll be heading back to the states soon. I'm 31 and 5'3 and I started CC at 175 lbs. I didn't really start calorie counting till 05 Febuary 08. I'm now at 166.2 lbs with 17.5 inches lost (I lose inches faster than pounds). I hope I don't gain anything back during our move back to the states (anyone have advice in that area?) I probably won't have access to CC for awhile during that time (and who knows what bad foods will be available while we're traveling and when we don't have our kitchen stuff yet). Nice to 'meet' everyone!

| Weight Loss | Normal weight, big belly? | Mar 19 2008 07:01 (UTC) |
|
Yup. Always had a belly, even when I was super slim. It's part of my normal figure and, to tell you the truth, I'd love to slim down back to that weight and still have that little belly. I was so much healthier then! I think the 'baby fat' is just part of my normal makeup, even when slim. |

| Foods | Is diet soda a big deal? | Mar 19 2008 06:57 (UTC) |
10 |
The chemicals used to sweeten diet sodas have been said to be linked to brain disorders and miscarriage as well as weight gain (do a simple search online to read numerous articles on these topics). I avoid diet sodas like the plague. (I used to drink them all the time and I was very unhealthy then.) I use stevia to sweeten my drinks now. It's a natural sweetner. I still drink coffee and teas and it hasn't affected my weight loss. |

| Weight Loss | Military Spouses? | Mar 19 2008 06:32 (UTC) |

Oh, don't find it intimidating! I used to be in the Army and whenever I saw a civilian spouse working out with the rest of us (in the gym or running on the roads) I always thought they were super hardcore, despite whatever shape they were in (since in the Army we had no choice- we HAD to work out). I became injured, and then out of shape after that. I'm working to rectify those problems now! Oh and congratulations to your brother for making it! (Not everyone is able to make it through Army Basic Training... It's pretty intense stuff.) |

I am a gourmet coffee lover. I haven't stopped drinking coffee (since I began my new healthy lifestyle) and I'm still losing weight. Note: I'm careful to track how much cream I put in and I use stevia instead of sugar. It's the best!

I think the posts above have given some good advice. I'd just like to add that, for motivation, I've been reading the book 'Never Say Diet' by Chantel Hobbs. She went from 350 lbs to 150 in two years. That's an 100 lb loss a year! If you're looking for motivation, it's a good book (she gives solid, common sense advice on eating healthy and exercising. No gimmicks in this book). I wish you the best! You can do it!

| 120-125 sounds like a healthy weight for a 5'3 person. (I'm 5'3 myself and my goal weight is 130 lbs because I think 120 would be a bit too low for me personally). | |||
| Weight Loss | Driving trip coming up - need some advice. | Mar 12 2008 14:00 (UTC) |

| I'd say just enjoy your trip and keep your healthy snacks handy (instead of buying any junk food at the rest stops). It's good to give your body a break from exercise once n' awhile- although if you really do want to take a jog around the complex (hardcore!) more power to you! |

| Chantel Hobbs book 'Never Say Diet'. She lost 200 lbs in 2 years by just eating healthy and exercising. No gimmicks- and very good advice. This book has been a real motivator for me. |

| Weight Loss | Infrared Sauna? | Mar 11 2008 00:50 (UTC) |

I don't believe any type of suana burns fat. It is good though for shedding water weight and getting toxins out of the skin. It also relaxes your muscles (great after intense exercise!) I agree that if the suana worked in burning fat, there would be no need for exercise and thus, there wouldn't be so many overweight folks out there! (The suana would be super popular!) |
