| Recipes | HELP - any cheap n cheerful quick fix recipes? stuffed tomatoes etc...? | Apr 23 2009 02:28 (UTC) |

Stuffed tomatoes... interestingly enough that's what I had for dinner. Tuna Tomato Cups to be exact. Scoop out a medium tomato, and stuff it with tuna salad (chunk light tuna, reduced fat mayo, sweet relish (sugar or sugar free), garlic salt). Serve greens on the side, I like a berry vinaigrette for dressing. Salad can be spruced up easily, try different veggies, like zucchini, peas, broccoli, oh anything veggie pretty much. almonds and dried cherries go good too but they're a bit more expensive. Tomatoes are also good stuffed with cottage cheese. Hope this helps |

| Foods | Should I make myself eat more? | Mar 31 2009 16:23 (UTC) |

You should definitely eat more, dont "force" yourself though. Try another tactic, like livelovelearn said, pop a higher calorie food somewhere in there. Try a food like avocados, which have beneficial fats, toss in a peach or an apple, add a little olive oil to something like pasta or chicken, drink a glass of milk (it doesnt have to come from a cow. Soy, rice, goat, almond, whatever you like). I'm having the same problem... I've lost my appetite, thats why I came back to CC, to track what I was eating because I suddenly and rapidly started dropping weight while on "maintenance" . I was only eating when hungry and it turns out I had only been eating 800 to 1000 cals. The acai berries may be affecting the appetite although chocolate is not "unhealthy" at all, if you eat it in small portions. Dark chocolate is far more beneficial than milk chocolate however because it has less sugar and fat. The darker it is, the more antioxidants it has. I'm definitely a chocolate lover, I eat it several times a week... just one piece at a time. My favorite is Dagoba's Xocolatl (Dark chocolate with chili nibs) and a bar of it lasts a week and a half at least. If you want chocolate, try something without the acai for a while and see if that helps. I wasn't planning on losing any more weight, but my body apparently has other plans, so I'm making myself eat at least the baseline amount of calories (1200) until I get my appetite back. Good luck with it. |

smfarver78 is right. It all depends on muscle mass and fat distribution. For instance, I am 5 ft. 8 in. and 162 pounds with a medium frame, and wear sizes 10 and 11. Losing 5 pounds would drop me an entire size, gaining 5 puts me at the lower end of a 12 and 13. A lot of my weight is dense muscle in my legs, but I do not have as much tone in the hip and midsection, so my size can fluctuate easier than someone who is more muscular in these areas. My top size stays pretty consistent since my 36DD breasts are determined to stay put (which some days I thank them for and others I curse them). Most medium tops just will not go over them unless they have some stretch in that area. I tend to feel a bit obliged to stay at the high end of healthy weight because I am afraid of looking off-balance by being too topheavy. Back to the point, not every woman who is a particular height, weight, and frame are going to be the same size. I am the same as you in that my goal was a certain size, not weight. Since you are large framed, a size 12 might be easier to attain, but a 10 probably would not be unrealistic. My mother is a large boned person who is 5 ft. 10 in. and she looks like she is slightly ill at a 12, and looks like a skeleton at a 10, so everybody is different. Do what makes you happy. |

| Weight Loss | What's your waist to hip ratio? | Nov 14 2008 21:53 (UTC) |

mine was .73, which is low risk. However, the site seems to imply that women only come in two shapes, apple or pear. They completely forget women have a bust, which figures into shape and weight. You cannot really call a 39-29-39.5 inch figure a pear... Some women also have that slim boyish figure, while others like me are hourglasses, and yet others are boxy. I do not think their little calculator can be accurate for all body types with how limited their criteria are. |

This theory completely explains why the Weight Watchers Flex Plan worked on me... and that I can lose 5 more pounds without signing back up. WW does something called Flex Points, which are basically extra, or splurge points that you are allowed to eat anywhere anytime, in addition to your daily allotment. They equate to between 30 and 110 calories per point, depending on how healthy the food is. What I gather from this article is that their program is using this method of caloric fluctuation to promote faster weight loss (and of course charging you for the use of their program and tools). Now I know the secret... no more paying anybody to tell me how to lose weight. |

That drives me crazy! (I know, short trip...) While I tend to fragment sentences when posting online, I at least take the time to spell things properly! Seriously, the little posting box on this website even has spellcheck! I occasionally do not know how to spell a word, but in that case I use spellcheck or look it up. I guess people no longer care how they write. Even I make a type-o once in a while, but I agree that the consistent use of a grossly misused or misspelled word is annoying and appears unintelligent, whether that person is or not. This applies to those who speak foreign languages as well. Spellcheck is your friend!(It is not 100% accurate but it is an improvement over some of the word-garbage I have seen posted here.) |

| Foods | Oatmeal Help | Jan 29 2008 20:05 (UTC) |

Maybe i'm weird, but i eat the Old Fashioned oats that come in the big cylinder canister. It's about 150 calories per serving, but a serving cooks up to more than a cup and it is filling. Quick oats and especially instant oatmeal are too gluey for me. I add a shake of salt and a half of a tablespoon of light butter, maybe a little skim milk if i'm in a hurry and i have to cool it off faster. |

| Weight Loss | How many meals/snacks do you eat per day? | Jan 24 2008 06:11 (UTC) |
12 |
on most days i eat 4 meals which are around 300 calories, give or take 50. Everyone on here seems to consider those "mini-meals" but i dont really get it because they take up a whole dinner plate... maybe i eat differently than most people. I eat a lot of veggies and rice and lean meats these days. I also have a 75 calorie (give or take 50 again) snack a few hours after my first 2 or 3 meals, depending on when I had breakfast usually. so, about 7 times a day all together, evenly spaced. Just as i begin to get hungry, it's time to eat again. I get low blood sugar easily, (no, i am not diabetic) so eating this way makes it easier to manage. Before, i used to eat about two to three times a day, a lot of sugars and caffeine, and nearly every day i would have a hypoglycemic episode. I got overweight from eating too much when my glucose levels dropped, and because by the time i stopped to eat I was ravenous. Another issue is that i love food, and i am a creature of the senses... how things feel, taste, smell, and look are highly important to me. Add the holiday season on to that, and it's a recipe for disaster. I'm slowly getting the weight off, about half a pound a week, 7 pounds so far! It's good to see i'm not the only one who eats all the time. I often feel like I am eating too much, but i manage to easily stay in my calorie range, and i keep losing weight, albeit slowly so i guess its ok. |

| It sounds like you need arch supports! I have high arches, and i get that problem with most shoes, the ball of my foot and my big toe hurt and go numb if i walk too much. Go to a drugstore or athletic store and buy arch supports. they come in varying heights and sizes, i'd try some relatively soft ones first, then go to firmer ones if you need more support. I dont know the shape of your feet so i can't tell you for sure, but i hope this helps. | |||
| Fitness | "you dont want your muscles to show, it's not feminine" | Jan 21 2008 17:53 (UTC) |

Ok, i'm not going to tell you what you should look like. That is up to you. I do think you should know that the photograph of that girl is very airbrushed, and to attain that level of "fitness" and still have full and presumably soft breasts like hers, implants are required, because exercising that much reduces overall bodyfat to nearly nothing, and guess what those are made of? :) Being fit is a good thing, but maybe you could strike a balance between what your boyfriend thinks is attractive (and on some levels i agree with him) and what that fitness model looks like. If you look at that photograph carefully, you will notice her pose and clothing give her a more feminine appearance, however her hips are narrow in proportion to her waistline despite the camera tricks. You can work out, and get toned without losing your curves, but not to the extreme the model you like has done. She's obviously healthy, but there are a good number of people who would not find her attractive. That's my two cents for the day, take it or leave it. |

| Weight Loss | Went out to eat last night and now I'm 3 pounds heavier this morning????? | Jan 11 2008 15:26 (UTC) |

It's most likely water weight. It's common for a woman to gain up to 5 or more pounds of water weight overnight, especially if you are pre-menstrual or taking in too much sodium. Have some green tea, drink some water (sounds weird but water is actually a diuretic), and relax. It will come off again. Promise! :) |

| Foods | Corn isn't a vegetable? | Jan 09 2008 23:47 (UTC) |

On the other hand, corn chips, are NOT a vegetable. Oh, and fresh or frozen vegetables tend to have less calories and sodium per volume, as they are not processed like canned veggies. Thought i'd add two more cents lol. |

| Foods | Corn isn't a vegetable? | Jan 09 2008 23:35 (UTC) |

That is complete nonsense. If they aren't vegetables then what the heck are they? Meat? Donuts? I am pretty sure fresh corn is a vegetable. Period. (Dried corn is considered a grain.) Fresh peas are also defined as a vegetable, though dried i think they might be considered a legume. They might not be the BEST vegetable, maybe even on some peoples forbidden list for some reason or other, but they are irrefutably vegetables. Tomatoes however, are a technically a fruit, even thought we're taught they are a vegetable. Peas and corn both have lots of nutrients that are very good for you, and if you don't have certain types of health problems then working them in to your diet should be NO problem! THEY ARE GOOD FOR YOU! Its as silly as the super low carb diets. Carbs are not bad themselves, over consumption of the wrong ones can be. It's all about balance. For instance, eating just one small cookie wont make you fat, but eating several every day could. Something to keep in mind. |

| Foods | frozen box meals | Jan 04 2008 03:06 (UTC) |

| I definitely wouldn't eat them all the time, but they are handy, if you know which ones to choose. Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, Smart Ones, and Michelina's Lean Budget Gourmet are some of the better ones, listed in order from Best on down. The thing you have to watch about these or any other box dinner is the sodium content. Slow down long enough to read the label. Some of the higher calorie box dinners tend to have more fats and sodium, but if you dont have too much problem with weight, they can be a good source of energy when you dont have time for anything else. I eat the Healthy Choice and Lean Cuisine meals a few times a week for lunch, because I don't have time to stop and prepare something, and it is more nutritious than grabbing pop-tarts or something like that shortly before I run out the door. As long as box dinners are not ALL you eat, and you pay attention to what is in them, you should be OK. I'm not a nutritionist or anything, so I dont know everything about it, but I've read everything I can get my hands on about what people should, shouldn't, and need to eat to be healthy. Hope this helps. | |||
