Fitness Calling all P90Xers..... Feb 19 2008

Thanks Bert. I will definitely make sure that I'm eating close to 2200 calories. Hard to think about as I have been staying around 1600 since January. But YES, I know, I'm maintaining and I need to eat to build the muscle.

I am having a hard time getting to the recommended 50% protein. I usually eat alot of fruits, veggies, etc. All good, but not much protein. I am trying to add extra lean ham, turkey, more chicken, eggs, etc but I still can't get to 50%. Plus, when I eat alot of that stuff, I feel really full and not so great. I eat protein bars and do protein shakes sometimes, but still short.

Jill, what were your % when you did P90X? Right now, I am at about 50-55% carbs (complex), 25-30% protein and 15-20% good fats. No sugars, processed foods, etc. All good stuff. I want to do everything I can to get the most out of this workout but I can't get my protein to that level.

Your thoughts???

Health & Support ok, it's not a new topic, but why am I SO tired all the time? Feb 08 2008

I am 35, 5'8, 134 lbs. My BMR is 1394. There for awhile I was only eating about 1400-1450 calories. Way too low. I was struggling to get through workouts and felt weak alot. I upped it to around 1600 and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Not only did my energy go up ALOT but I starting losing fat/wt and toning up more again after a short stall.

So, try to up your calories about 200 or so and see how it goes! I'll bet that you'll see a bit difference. At least I did!!!

I used to not be able to drink plain water. So I read somewhere that it would be helpful to add some no sugar added plain cranberry juice. Not alot...just some to add some flavor. It's really good. The cranberry juice doesn't have sugar to add alot of calories and it's good for you.

The new Curves granola bars are GREAT. I tried the strawberries and cream and I love them. They aren't like typical "bars" they are really soft and sweet. You should try them! 100 calories each.

I actually meant GOOD carbs. I don't eat any processed foods and no sugar (candy, soft drinks, etc). So I'm definitely talking about the good carbs. So, that being said, would my % be too far off? I feel fine, no issues. I've lost 5 lbs in 3 weeks and I'm more toned for sure. So I guess I just need to know if dropping my carbs would help even more???

LOvx3, didn't meant to take over your thread...but I think we're asking the same thing??  : )

I'd like to know for sure. I am at a calorie deficit every day as I should be. BUT no matter what I eat I always end up with about 55-60% carbs for the day. I eat alot of veggies, fruit and really healthy foods but my % are always around this:

15% fat, 25% protein and 60% carbs. I try to balance it out but it always ends up the same.

I'd love to know if this is going to cause my fat loss to slow down.

Fitness How do you log Tae Bo? Jan 27 2008

I love it...but I have to say that I got bored listening to him while I was working out. : )   So I turn the volume down on the TV and turn on some great "workout" music. Then I just follow along with them. Helped to get me through the boredom of doing it every other day.

I can also say that I can really tell a difference since I started doing tae bo workouts!!! I'm much more toned and it's only been two and 1/2 weeks.

Thanks for the responses.

I rock because I have a wonderful, flat, tight tummy and tiny waist....after 3 kids!!!! I get compliments all the time! I love it.

I also have great long red (not orphan annie red) hair, that's completely natural. I'm 5'8, 137 and athletic. AND I'm taking better care of myself now so I feel better than ever.

Those are my most avorite things about myself. I love me!!! No self hating here!

Weight Loss at least 1200/day is BULL!!!!..for most people Jan 18 2008

This has been THE most helpful post that I have read so far!!! Thank you VERY much! I have gone back and forth on what my daily caloric intake should be. So, here's how I figure it.

I'm 5'8, 35 years old, 138. My BMR (sedentary) X 1.2 = 1680. That's what I will eat each day, plus a tad bit more. I work out everyday and average 500 calories burned. So that's my deficit. I eat the amount of my BMR and work out for 500 calories.

That keeps me from going into starvation mode and I get my 500 calorie deficit and 1 lb weight loss a week. I'll keep re-calculating my BMR and once I reach my 8-10lb loss, then I will eat the amount of my BMR and exercise added together! That will allow me to maintain that weight.

That's it....right?????

Weight Loss 1600 calories per day and ZERO weightloss?! Any over 40's out there? Jan 17 2008

I'm not in my 40s, I'm 35 (140lbs). I just overhauled my diet in an effort to lose about 10 or so lbs and get healthier. I was 125 lbs about 4 mths ago and I would like to at least get back to 130. I have always hovered between 115 and 125 lbs.

I cut out all of my favorite bad things (Dr. Pepper, sweet tea, chocolate, etc). I was a sugar-holic and I ate alot of Mcdonalds.

I have done nothing but eat VERY healthy foods and I count every calorie. I measure all of my food and I exercise at least 1 hour everyday, alternating between cardio and weight lifting. Somedays I do 30 minutes of both, somedays I do an hour of one or the other. I am drinking at least 8 8oz bottles of water a day as well.

I have been doing this for two weeks now and have not lost a single lb. My clothes don't fit any different either. I'm averaging about 1500 calories a day now. I was eating less but was told by some that it was too little so I went from 1250 to 1500.

A little discouraging that I haven't lost anything BUT I know that I'm getting healthier as my body seems to be operating better. I just the weight loss will come eventually as I'll continue to "fine-tune".

Good luck!

That helps alot! I will cut down my meal before my workout and have the protein and carbs after.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the help. I will definitely up my calories as I'm not one of those that want to starve my self. I want to be healthly. I think my problem is that I read too much!!! Smile  Then I get confused on where I need to be.

Anyway, thanks again! I'm off to eat something!  Wink
