Susie- Do you ever really get over it? I'm kind of worried about being jaded. Knowing that someone would be paying attention to me because I looked like someone "normal" it would get to me too. Chic- you got it. A good friend of mine who lost 245lbs (through diet & exercise) said that if you can find time to watch tv, or call a friend, or check your e-mail you can find time to take care of yourself. I think my greatest fear is using my weight as an excuse. That excuse that prevents me from really going out into the world to "pursue my happiness". All I've known is the dissapointment. All I've known is this level. And being healthy (below 200lbs) that is this unknown territory. All the things that come with that. The things that I will have access to, the people I can communicate with. Finding happiness. Those are things that believe it or not I realized were very scary prospects. |

Welcome Gia! I think you'll find CC a great place to help you with your weight loss! I certainly have. I've been where you are...too busy to prepare all this food that I need and I hated exercising (still do) Might I reccommend that you for the time being start out structured. Instead of buying all this produce that you know you won't eat. Buy what you know you will and that you know is good for you. I reccommend instant oatmeal in the morning or a bran cereal with fruit. Yogurt with whole wheat toast. It's all fast and easy and don't forget your calcium & protien with an 8oz glass of milk! Lunch I usually go between a salad with chicken, tuna fish on whole wheat and a fruit, or Steamed Veggies and a Chicken sandwhich. Dinner- Grilled Chicken, Steamed Veggies, Baked Potato, You can get frozen veggies for easy steaming and no fuss prep. Just keep things low calorie or low fat. Another thing is portion control get a small dessert or salad plate visualize 3 equal sections and make sure you have a protein (chicken, fish, beef) , carb (pasta, potato, bread) and veggie I usually make the veggie and protien sections larger than the carb section. Don't forget frozen dinners are a great way to learn portion control and more importantly they are fast!! The best of luck to you! Let me know how it goes I'll add you as a friend and keep tabs on you!

Such great posts!! Thanks for all the wonderful replies. 2008 & jjlewis - I've known quite a few people that have lost weight the "hard" way and they had minimal loose skin. It was there but they are to happy just being at a healthy weight to be concerned with it. I've worried from time to time about that myself. But if it means that I get to live longer and do the things I want to do and TRULY live life to the fullest. Well give me the jiggles any day. Keep the great posts coming! |

I couldn't agree more! My husband suffered from terrible joint pain we went to 3 doctors trying to figure out why. When all we needed is a trip to our health food store. After taking a magnesium supplement for a few days he was a different man. His moods were better and his pain was GONE! Milfred-in a perfect world we would get all the nutrients our body needed in our everyday foods but they've been cut out thanks to over processing. Supplements are the best way to get the proper levels. But you can find the right foods that offer the best of the combinations you need without worrying about tipping the scales. EllinJ-what a great idea taking a mineral supplement before bed! I bet you do sleep more soundly. |

| My favorite is when people say "wow you look great, you've lost some weight haven't you" when you've gained it. I think those kinds of comments come from a good place to take it as a good thing. The most important thing is that you feel happy with yourself. I agree, get the before and after photo then you'll really notice the difference! (and feel better about it) | |||

Noelle, It's a scary thing letting that invisibility cloak drop. It will be nice to have strangers help with door instead of letting it slam in my face. Or to be included in on discssions had by business associates that are sitting right beside me instead of talking around me. I've definitley used my weight as a way to hide the real me. You sound far from "plain" my dear! Catharina, My goal weight loss has me at a nice curvy size 16-18 I too like curves on me and on women in general. And I look forward to the day when I can walk in a normal store and find something that I can wear as apposed to going to maybe one or two stores in a mall. And you look marvelous darling keep up the great work! |

Peace, What I mean is that for some (if not most of us) we begin to put on that weight to avoid certain things in our life. For me at a young age it was to ward off unwanted physical advances. Subconsciouly if I mad myself unattractive maybe certain individuals would leave me alone. Before you know it. It's this huge wall you've build around yourself. And while the desire may be there to lose weight deep down your afraid to break down the wall, because you can't use it anymore as an excuse. "I didn't get that promotion because of my weight" ect ect |

Original Post by dalmalama: That to me is the biggest hurdle of all. To really dig deep and realize that you put this physical wall up because you are so afraid of something. Whatever it is. From unwanted physical affection to success or love. To be willing to expose that part of yourself to the world. Something you've protected for so long. Beat that and you can beat ANYTHING! It amazes me that the medical community after all the cold hard facts still refuses to really see (and treat) Overeating on the same level as bulimia or anorexia. |

| "nothing tastes as good as being able to wear whatever you want. SA515 don't look at your past attempts as failures. At least you tried that is the most important things. And I'm sure each time you learned something new about yourself. You learned about your hurdles, your triggers, this time focus on how to overcome them.I'm also new to CC and have a long way to go in my own weight loss. But this is such a great place with incredibly supportive people and fantastic insights. You are not alone in your struggle or your frustration. I'll add you as a friend and keep tabs on you.Hang in there! |

My financial situation was certainly a contributing factor. I also feel like my nutritional education also played a BIG role. As a kid growing up in a lower middle class family (living paycheck to paycheck) My mother chose buying the cheaper foods (sometimes in bulk) to help get us through the weeks with no additional money. But she also didn't understand the concept of nutritional value or serving sizes. And yes we had far to many creature comforts than we needed. (TV's in every room, Cable TV..) My husband and I are very afraid of what's to come in our economy. Not so much on a will we survive level. But just how far reaching the ripple effect will be. It's an all too familiar equation? The Piss Poor Housing Market=No New Home Purchases=No New Home Building=No Jobs for Construction Laborers (Builders, Plumbers, Electritians)=Fewer Purchases (Electronics, Automobiles, Retail,...)=Plummeting Revenues=Job Loss and so on and so forth.? It just sends us spinning.? Just from my own perspective.? It is my belief that my mother felt that if the?pantry was full (with anything) then things weren't that bad.? It's easier to fill it with Mac-N-Cheese & Spam, which are always on sale-Buy one get one?FREE!,than it is to fill it with fresh fruits and veggies, which rarely make it to the supermarket shelves in edible shape let alone get put on sale.? Thanks for the?great thread! there are some wonderful thoughts to read and ponder. |

| That is great to hear! You have definitely inspired this newbie. I have about 130 to lose. Loved the WWHRD? pic in your gallery by the way. I should put that on a little plastic wristband and use it for some inspiration. Make sure you do something special to celebrate! | |||

Hi Everyone, let me start by saying that I am so excited to have found this group. Ellin, I agree with you (and others that have said it) in my book losing those "last 10 or 15lbs" cannot compare to losing 100+. We all have a long way to go. But I think if we all celebrate the ups and support each other in the downs we'll get there! My starting weight is *gulp* 308lbs (down from 311 around Thanksgiving) My last weigh in was 307lbs (01/03/08) My goal for now is to get to 199 (haven't been there since my late teens) I lost 30lbs before getting pregnant with my daughter in 2005 but the weight I gained with her almost 50lbs never went away. My biggest challenges have to be finding the time to exercise. And eating consistent healthy meals. And going the long haul (losing that 30lbs in 2005 was HUGE for me the largest loss in my life to date) I could go on and on but I'll save that for later. For those that have lost WAY TO GO! For those just beginning like I, All those first starts of yesterday were just a training for this. Take the things you've learned in the past and use them... I know we can all go the distance. I look forward to making some great friends. |
