Wow! Everyone is making such great progress!!! I'm truly inspired :):) And, I am also glad to have you guys to keep me accountable and honest!

I didn't do as well as I would have hoped with that 1lb gain last week, but I am still happy with a loss! I'm down 2.1lbs this week and I've (barely) entered the 150's! Hopefully I'll never see the 160's again!!

Also, I'm only .9lb away from "healthy weight" vs. the "mildly overweight" BMI that I've been at for such a long time! Hopefully by next week :)

*sigh* Up nearly a pound. I expected this, though. Memorial day, 1300mile drive down to Orlando, and my first week in FL with my fiance including his birthday and our 4 year anniversary. This week WILL be better and I WILL make healthy choices.

This week was pretty horrible for me. I had graduation festivities and I found out I have hypothyroidism. Food and me were not friends this past week, and neither were me and exercising. I am glad, however, that I managed to lose something amongst all the chaos, and that I didn't gain with all of my binges.

I am having a much harder time this time around than the previous times. It feels impossible to stay under my target caloric intake, and I haven't since I started on Monday. All the previous times I dieted with CC I could easily stay under, and often times found myself forcing myself to eat to stay healthy.

But, I know I am making much better choices than I used to, so while I may not see as big of a loss (or a loss at all) come Monday, at least I know I've stopped PUTTING ON weight at the rate I was before!

BUT there are some advanced students who can handle this subject matter early on, just as some can handle calculus at a young age.

i would go a step further: there are some students who not only can handle the subject matter, but who crave the challenge. most high school curricula cater to concrete thinkers (both students and teachers); there's very little space for anything that's truly intellectually challenging.

again, i think the biggest problem would be finding people to teach it. part of the reason the curricula is so concrete is that it makes for easy standardization and evaluation. it's all part of the assembly-line model of education ;)

I agree (especially with the ability of high school students and that there are students who crave the challenge). High school was only 4 years ago for me (graduating undergrad in 10 days! Woot!), and I was obscenely bored for the most part. I spent four years walking through classes...with physics as the only real challenge.

For me, getting A in all of my classes wasn't worth much when I didn't have to work for it. I may have come out top of my class, with a great scholarship to a great school, but that didn't mean much when I didn't feel like I got anything out of my education. (And, to clarify, I went to one of the top 10 public schools in New York state...it's not like I wasn't challenged at a sub-par school)

If I could have spent my electives on philosophy or religion instead of my other, less challenging classes, I believe that I would look back on my high school years more fondly. Also, graduating with a B.A. in Philosophy, I've always resented that I wasn't introduced to this foundational field earlier.

Carrie - That's great that you've been sticking with it! And great progress! I used to run pretty regularly, so I need to get back into it. For now, I've taken up cycling along the canal where I live until I feel comfortable running again.

Maryo - That's a great mindset! I think I always used to get caught up in the final goal instead of the short-term goals along the way. Good luck!

Angelique - Accountability is exactly what I needed! I had to cut out the fast food from my diet too...french fries are my weakness. We have the same goal weight! How tall are you?

Sidd - That's understandable! And it's all part of the process...good luck!

Kelsey - Amazing progress! You're a great inspiration to me :)

Leo - Wow! Your story sounds much like mine! I was down to 155 this summer, maintained until about January, and once my last undergraduate semester began I gained 15 points and am back to 170 with graduation one week away. Good luck!

Nursegirl - I think that weekly weigh-ins are the way to go (for me, at least!). It's hard not to get discouraged when you see the scale stay at the same place (or up!) each day. For me, it's more satisfying when I see a 3lb weight loss for the week than a .2lb weight loss for the day. What I will say though, is some weeks you won't lose...but don't be discouraged then either! Next week you'll just lose that much more if you keep doing what you're doing!

Hpeterson - Much luck to you! Keep up the good work! :)

While I realize this thread is pretty much dead, I do want to correct something another member said.

WW in no way allows you to eat something like a whole watermelon with no worries. By my calculations a whole watermelon is 27 points, 3 points above my personal daily limit.

Certain foods, especially fruits and vegetables, are 0 points. But that is per 0 serving. The WW equation rounds down to the lowest number. So, a serving of baby carrots has 30 cal, .1 g of fat and 2.5 g of fiber, giving it a "real" point value of 0.10833333333333331 - - which gets rounded down to 0. Obviously, if you eat more than 1 serving this number gets bigger and bigger, to the point where carrots are no longer a 0 point food.

I lost 25 lb on weight watchers in the summer of 2007 (hitting my goal of 150), and then gained 20 of it back over the next year when I stopped following it. Since starting it up again I've lost 10 pounds and plan on seeing those other 10 gone in no time. I think it's a great program and I've never been to a meeting or paid one cent for it. You can find the calculators all over the internet and it's not that hard to figure out your daily allowance either.

Sorry I have been MIA for forever! I have been recovering from a pretty bad injury...and I hadn't worked out in almost 2 months. While my body still isn't ready to run yet, I finally made it to the gym tonight and did a stationary bike with only moderate pain for a brief portion of my 30  minute session. Hopefully I'll be back to running by the new year! *crosses fingers*

It's great to see you're still here shanfood!! :)

I never updated my last run from 09/18. I decided to just give it a go and try the "run until I was tired, walk until I was bored" method. I ran 36:25. I was very happy with that. If only I had kept it up and continued going to the gym.

I finally got back to the gym last night after almost two whole weeks of being lazy. I did the same method again (I think I may stick with this, it seems to be working for me) and got 36:34. It may have been slower, but I was awfully proud having not worked out in so long. I've almost cut 4 whole minutes off my time from when I started.

Shannon-it's great to see you back on here! I'm glad I helped motivate you, but don't push it too hard! Endurance before speed :) This is something I need to keep telling myself, as I fear that I may be pushing myself too hard (to keep up with my friend who runs a 30min 5k) and that I will ultimately end up crashing. Can't wait to hear how your most recent run went!

Week 3 run 2 tonight! 37:34...quickest time yet...but it was definitely the hardest run for me yet.

Didn't weigh in so well today. Meh. It was my own fault. I'm still staying positive because I know what it is I did wrong last week and how easily it can be fixed!

Sleep now. Laughing

Just got home from week 3 run 1! I was really concerned, but it ended up going really well (at least I think so!)

I was no more winded/tired than my week 2 runs and I finished a bit quicker! 37:45...

I honestly think I could have finished a bit quicker, but the treadmill I was on was refusing to show me time and distance at the same time so I wasn't really pacing myself as best as I could have been.

I plan on doing week 3 run 2 tomorrow night after my night class--hopefully it goes well! Tomorrow is also a weigh-in day for me, *crosses fingers* I hope my cheating weekend didn't hurt my progress too much.

Congrats lozzle!!! That's fantastic!! LaughingLaughing

Unfortunately I haven't been able to make it into the gym since last week...so I haven't started week 3 yet. I'm about to head there now, so I'll update later with how well my first run of week 3 goes!

Congrats again lozzle!!

Week 2 run 4 just completed!

38:24 - - I am feeling better everyday!

And, today I reached a major goal -- 10lbs lost! I'm down from 171 to 161. Only 1 lbs away from my lightest last summer when I did weight watchers. 21lbs away from my final goal! It's happening a lot faster than I was expecting!

Didn't get around to my week 2 run 3 yesterday like I had planned, but I managed to do it tonight.

38:30 :) I managed to cut 1:30 off my starting time of 40:00. I am hoping to do my final run tomorrow or Friday (only reason I wouldn't tomorrow is I may go to cycling class).

My goal is 38:00 for my week 2 run 4 to set myself up well for starting week 3.

This is the best motivator I've found yet--I am so surprised that it would be exercising that would motivate me the most to be healthy!

Did run 2 of week 2 today!

I was pretty sore this morning, my left hip particularly, so I decided to take the run a bit slower today.

I was expecting my slower pace to add a couple minutes (I was expecting 43min) to my overall time.

I must have just paced myself a lot better than yesterday because I didn't feel like I was dying, I was in control of my breathing the whole time, and I only added 10 seconds to my total time. 40:10 total! I was very proud of myself. I ended strong, fast, and feeling good.

The 500+ calories I burned made up for the icecream I had later in the day Embarassed.

I think I'm gonna give my body (especially my hip) a rest tomorrow and do cycling class and running on Tuesday.

I am loving the program so far--and amazingly looking forward to my next run!

I just started this today! I decided to start at week 2 instead of week 1 (I was feeling ambitious).

I have never run anything longer than 1 mile (save for on the elliptical, but I don't count that) - and the last time I ran the mile was 5 years ago.

So, I've decided to start the program on the treadmill and once I feel comfortable in my own body I'll move away from the gym.

I finished in 40 minutes flat. I was, personally, very pleased with that. I was super winded at the end and during I felt like I was going to die, haha--but once I finished I had such a feeling of accomplishment!

I can't wait to move forward and progress!

Doing run 2 of week 2 tomorrow morning!
