joanne - hang in there!  just don't let it ruin everything.  I'm sure you have made some healthy changes to your life and if you stick to them, the weight will fall off again.

I'm totally not weighing myself this week.... yep, it's that time of the month and I know i'll be disappointed.  so I'm taking a free week and will weigh myself again on Monday.

Jellykiss - wow!  That's awesome!  What's your secret?  What does your work out plan look like?

Keep it up!  Very inspirational!  I am 5'0 and started the year at 140.  I'm down to 136... slowly but surely, right?  My goal right now is to get to 130.  Then I would like to get down closer to 120.

Way to go!

How's everyone else doing?

jillsarah - water is a good idea.  sometimes it makes me feel worse though.  but it certainly does help w/the extra calories.  if i drink 1.5 to 2 nalgene bottles of water a day, i always eat less because it fills be up.  but it seriously is annoying to be running to the bathroom constantly.  oh well...

And here comes the weekend... good luck everyone!

jillsarah - omg the weekends are the worst!!!  a couple weekends ago i tried "saving" calories by just eating broccoli for dinner so i could have an extra drink or 2 at the bar.  totally backfired.  i forgot that my tolerance was lower due to lack of food in the system and ended up pretty sick the next day... which then led me to eating pizza (i'm sorry, but the only hangover cures i know involve greasy food or mayo-drenched sandwiches).  so yeah, totally defeated the purpose.  i don't recommend it.  anyway, i have found that as long as i work out most days, i can have a slip up on friday and/or saturday and i'm usually fine.

but yeah, more of my problem is the food on the weekend... who wants to make their own food on the weekend?  i mean, come on!

jessica - where did you hear that????  while there may be some truth to it, i can tell you from experience that it is not completely true.  when i started weight watchers last year, all i did was walk 3 or 4 times a week.  then to get rid of my last 5 lbs, i started running 3 miles, 3 times per week.  now 9 miles a week is a far cry from 30.  further more, you shouldn't start out w/ 30 miles a week anyway.  start with what you can do and push it a little bit more every time.  be sure at maximum, when you are adding distance, you only add 10% (ex: if you are running 1 mile, the next week, you should only add another tenth of a mile for 1.1 miles at each session).  bottom line:  do what you can.  don't push too hard or you will hate it and probably end up injuring yourself.

weight-training?  yes, i have to say that it is extremely important.  it helps you have proper form for the other exercising you do.  does the weight room have an attendant?  he/she should be able to show you how to use the different machines.

i'm lucky, my bf has a weight bench in his basement and so he helps me and has taught me the proper form.

Anyway, good luck!

vanluvjam - that is a pretty cool idea!  i wish i could do that... it seems i am the only member of my family (well, i guess i don't have a very big family) who is struggling to lose and keep off.  but that is the greatest idea to help w/motivation.

also, just had to share:  i scored my 2nd goal this season in our soccer game last night!  Plus I had a few shots on goal and 1 assist.  Heck yes!

jessgwilan - i have the same problem... this compulsive need to clean my plate or try everything at a buffet because it all looks so amazing!  I don't have a lot of tips...  I used to be really good at making just 1 serving.  but now i'm cooking for my bf and myself a lot and while most people would say that cooking for 2 or 4 is easier than just one, i really had it down and knew how much to make.  i never know how much bf wants to eat.  grrr... anyone have any suggestions???

yep, you'll get sick.  all 25 of us got sick at some point or another.  i would recommend getting a prescription of cipro.  if you tell your dr. where you're going, it should be pretty easy to get.  i think it is an antibiotic, but also helps w/diarhea.  but also bring some type of anti-diarhea medicine because that was actually what the problem was for most.  people are so happy in chennai!  in dehli they were not quite as friendly.  have fun!!!!!

at33 - i have similar goals... i'm at 139 and my first goal is to get down to 129 and then ultimately, i would like to be somewhere between 115 and 125.  you're 32??? i guess you're not really a "fun girl in her 20s"... I guess we can allow it.  Wink

halo_620 - i live in MN!  are you moving to the twin cities?  i have to say that i love it up here... but um, are you aware of the winters?  the high today is 3 degrees.  but you should still move up here anyway!

fav exercise - gotta be running or like, hip hop dance but i haven't done that since high school.  running calms me.

fav weight lifting - bench press - i see my progress the most here.  i'm up to 60 pounds!

Mutton is sheep.  That is very prevalent.  Also a lot of vegetarian because of the Hinduism.

India is an amazing country.  New Dehli is industrial so that will be a good way to ease yourself into the culture.  I assume you will take a train out to the Taj then?  Seriously, it looks fake from far away because it is so white!

The majority of my time was spent in Chennai.  I took classes in Madras Christian College (they had a partnership w/some of the midwest colleges).  I would highly recommend going down there.  It is pretty typical India.  Also, we took a weekend trip to Mahabalipuram... this place was AMAZING!  Beach resort.  Anyway, in the south, they do this head wobble thing.  It is hard to explain, but once you see it, you'll know.  And all it means is that they are listening to you and understand you.  That was one of the most difficult things for us to get used to because we thought they were nodding yes or no.

Wow, you are going to have soooooooo much fun!  I'm jealous.  Be sure to take some digestive medicine.  :-)

doowhacker - welcome!  college is a tough time (for girls especially) to keep fit.  I am only 5'0 and when i was in college, i gained 20 pounds, which on a short person, it looks like i gained a lot more than that!  Then over the summer i would lose it, and then back on campus, i would gain it back.  I think it is VERY important to try to work out as much as possible (both for your health and stress level... college + work + social life = STRESS).

Where in India will you be going?  I studied over there for a month while I was in college.  It changed my life!  Hope you like mutton and spicy food!

Wink

joannep17 - nice work!  i think that this whole "diet" thing or healthy lifestyle thing or whatever you want to call it is more about staying on the wagon even after you have slip ups like vodka and kfc!

I am so jealous of those of you who lose more than 1 pound a week!  I lose weight soooo ridiculously slowly!  That's what gets frustrating for me!  But, I'm going to keep at it!

Have a great Tuesday everyone!

set24 - thanks for the info on spinning!  i'm totally going to check it out.  maybe even this weekend... we'll see how adventurous i'm feeling!

i got a wonderfully luxurious full body massage!  bf and i didn't do xmas presents this year.  instead we decided we'd do something fun together so we got a couples massage.  really it was just both of us in the same room, each getting our own massage.  fabulous!

conlex - I hate that!  I always end up wearing the same 5 or 6 outfits to work and I have a couple for the weekends.  I'm so bored w/my wardrobe, but don't want to buy anything until i can fit into the clothes that are in my closet that i miss wearing.  i have faith that both of us will be slimmer and ready to show off by summer!

omg i hate running to the bathroom all day also!  i'm sure my co-workers think i've got some kind of bladder problem.  oh well.  maybe i can count the trips as burning calories?

oh coffee... your description makes me want to run to the kitchen and refill my mug.  I will not cave!

oooh i also do fat free yogurt or individual containers of low fat cottage cheese.  sometimes i need the protein to stop the hunger.

Okay, I am also a coffee addict, but I have gradually weened myself off of the turtle mochas/caramel macchiatos and just drink regular coffee w/2 splenda and maybe a splash of skim milk or fat free half and half.  And I drink close to 64 oz. of water a day to counteract the caffeine that I NEED in the morning.

As for snacks, I have fruit for a snack usually.  Something that takes a little while to eat works for me... like apple slices or an orange (oranges are great because you have to peel them.  By the time I'm done w/these snacks (which I eat while I'm working), I have to get a move on with work to do.  Also, chugging water helps.

I know some people do string cheese, but I eat that too fast and then think that I need more.  I guess I have figured out that, for me, snacking is not just about the hunger, but about having something to do w/my hands?  Is that weird?

set24 - congrats!  it is so encouraging when I see that this is working for other people.  Then when I have the not-so-great days, and the scale is discouraging, I just think of you guys... it worked for them so it WILL work for me too!

ok so i just noticed a trigger for myself that i never knew about before....  so my boss goes to sam's club and buys bulk EVERYTHING.  and it is all individually wrapped in that crackling, shiny plastic (mini bags of cheeto's, rice krispy bars, peanut butter crackers, candy bars, etc).  My "office" is right by the door to the kitchen.  I can't see into it, but I can hear everything that is going on in there.  When someone goes in and sifts thru the variety frito lay box for their particular flavor of ddoritos and i can hear that crackle/krinkle of the food that i should NOT be eating... my mouth waters instantly.  good grief.  WILL POWER, WHERE ARE YOU????

andreablevins - I am not quite 5'1 (I'm 5'0).  but I am at 139 and small to medium frame.  I did weight watchers in 2006 and lost 20 pounds (down to 129).  And in 2007 I gained 10 back.  I came to calorie count because it is a similar concept and free!

anyway, I'm planning 1200 calories.  3 days of cardio and 2 days of strength.  I'll start with that and hopefully add another day of something active.  my initial goal is to get back to 129.  I'm not opposed to dropping another 10 pounds after that though!

On a small frame, an extra 10 pounds translates into an additional chin!
