Pregnancy & Parenting Am I over reacting or do you think I have a right to be peeved? Sep 12 2008

I'm sorry you're peeved, but if it makes you feel any better, I would be upset as well. It doesn't take much energy to make a quick phone call. Just be sure you calmly tell him how it hurt your feelings when he gets home. Good luck and cheer up!

Have you ever tried Miralax? It is a natural laxative and not a bowel stimulant so your bowels shouldn't become reliant on it. You should not need to keep increasing the dose to get the same effect. It is available in most U.S. drug stores and is over the counter.

Oh my gosh! These are hilarious! Ok...I have a gym complaint:

There is this older man at my gym (65-70) and he comes to spin class every once and awhile. Every time he comes into the class wearing normal athletic shorts, but before he gets on the bike he insists upon taking his shorts off. Now, I know this sounds ok...you're thinking he has bike shorts on underneath...WRONG! He is wearing hanes WHITE boxer briefs!!! It is sooooo disturbing. Somebody should tell him that those are not appropriate! UGH!

Congrats on rejoining the gym! I too have problems with boredom and motivation at the gym. It seems to become more and more like a chore than an enjoyable experience. I've found that mixing it up helps a lot. Does your gym have any exercise classes? Those are always fun. Even if they don't seem like something you would enjoy, just give them a try. I also have found that treadmill intervals are a lot of fun. You can just adjust the speed or incline every 30 seconds to a minute. My routine is to start at 6.0 mph and add 0.1 every 30 seconds. I do this until I get up to 7.0 mph and then start subtracting 0.1. This is fun because when you first start, it is kind of hard. But, as you keep going, it gets easier and you can see the progress you've made.

Good luck! Happy exercising!

Spursfan: I totally hear you on the athletic frame thing. In high school I weighed 180 and didn't have an ounce of fat on me. I look at pictures of myself in high school and I would kill to be that toned again. But even without any fat I still wore a size 12!

Last year I hit my heaviest weight at 230 pounds! I was a size 16 at that point. Then I lost 60 pounds and got down to 170. I was pretty toned then, and my body fat percentage via bioelectrical impedence (more accurate than the height-weight BMI calculation) was 19%! Even then I was only a size 8 or 10.

Unfortunately, I have gained a little back and I'm trying to ditch those pesky 20 pounds before my wedding in October. I am just having a bit of a struggle getting back there.

Muttlover: Don't worry hun! I was 5'10" in fifth grade!! I went through elementary school feeling enormous. In college, I met a guy and he was sitting down at the time so I hadn't really noticed his height. Then I overheard him talking and he said that he was 6'8"! I immediately ran up to him and jokingly asked him to marry me. We started dating that day and are now getting married in October! You just have to seek out the tall men because I think most of them are looking for tall women!

Hi folks!! Tonight, I was soooo hungry for a giant bag of greasy potato chips with some sour cream and onion dip. It was seriously all I could think about. When I get these cravings, having just a bite or two does not help.

So, to beat my craving, I bought Lays light potato chips (only 75 calories for 20 chips and 0 fat) and dipped them into fage 0% greek yogurt with dried french onion soup dip mixed in. It was really yummy and a good amount only cost me about 250 calories!! Yay!!!

What is everybody doing for the Super Bowl?

1. 5-6 days per week (3 days of cardio, 3 days of cardio + weight training)

2. I love that feeling when you finish a really hard workout. It gets your mind off everything else. It is soooo much fun to see results and watch your strength and endurance improve. I feel guilty if I don't go.

3. Never been injured (good shoes are key!!)

Weight Loss Vent: weight loss advice from my DOCTOR!!! Jan 30 2008

Now I hate to sound like a drag, but most doctors are not incompetent. Many may be tactless and rude, but that does not mean they don't know what they are doing. Now, I don't advocate going to a rude doctor, (by all means, you should be comfortable with the person with whom you are entrusting your life), but conversely, just because they are nice does not mean that they are competent.

Just make sure that you stand your ground with your doctor. Tell them your concerns and be sure to press for a reason of why/why not they wont do something. Also, if you want nutritional/weight loss counseling, it is best to go to a dietician/nutritionist for help. Some doctors are trained in weight management, but not many.

I really like the Boca (meatless) chilli. It is in the frozen food section near the veggie burgers. It's great because it is one serving and all you have to do is heat it up. It is really filling!! It has something like 20g of protein and 12g of fiber. I love it!!

I hear ya!! I've gotten to the point that I would rather be in my dressy work pants than in my jeans. I blame part of it on the clothing industry. I just don't feel that they make jeans that are flattering for a lot of women. I have really muscular thighs that wont even dream of fitting into a pair of jeans in my waist size. It is so frustrating!!! AHHHH!!! I'm glad to hear that somebody else shares in my hatred of those non compliant little denim buggers!!

Ok...this one sounds kind of weird, but Fage 0% greek yogurt as a substitute for sour cream. It has kind of a tangy/sour taste and is yummy as yogurt, but is also really great as a sour cream substitute on a baked potato! It's about 80 calories for about 5 ounzes.

Molly- I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis of hypothyroidism, and then the insensitive doctor on top of that. What a bummer! Now, I don't know your individual situation, but hypothyroidism is a fairly common problem that usually can be managed by a general practitioner. Do you have an internist/family practitioner that you see? If you do, he/she might be able to help you. That would prevent you from having to rely on the internet or this endocrinologist for much needed information. Good luck!!!

Health & Support Breast surgery Jan 27 2008

Hey! I just answered another post of yours Smile.

There are risks to breast surgery at every age, but the risks are minimized if you do your research and find a surgeon that you feel comfortable with. You have a couple of options on what kind of breast surgery you could get. First, you could have your breasts lifted. With this, the surgeon removes some of the extra skin that you have in your breasts since you've lost weight and lifts your breasts back up to a reasonable level (aka no more sagging). With this surgery you would have no implants and would be more natural. Second, you could get implants alone, or you could get implants and a breast lift.

Now, I'm not sure whether or not a plastic surgeon would be willing to operate on you since you are only 15, but that is something to talk to him/her about.

Good luck!!

Fitness Whey protein Jan 27 2008

I have used whey protein in the past. The problem I had with it was that to use it you need to make milkshakes or something of that sort in order to make it taste decent. My issue was that the shakes added at least 200 calories and the protein powder was around 50-100 calories, so you ultimately end up with a 300 calories snack. Unfortunately, the men that bulk up with whey protein consume probably at least 3 or 4 of those a day. Those calories really add up!

Basically, I tried it, but couldn't commit to more than one shake a day because I wasn't looking to gain weight. It didn't work for me, but it might work for you. You can always give it a try and see how it works for you. Just be sure to continue to eat well balanced meals (don't go on a whey protein shake diet Smile).

Revitalize: 3300 calories seems like a lot, but it depends on your height and body type. Did you do the calculations in under the "tool" tab? Those tools give you an estimated number of calories you burn in a typical day and then also a number of calories that you should eat per day in order to reach your goal weight in a safe manner. It can be very helpful! Good luck and let me know how it goes!
