I'm just getting back in the game. Maybe this will help! 5'5" medium frame sw was 152.6 in January got down to 137, now cw is 141.2 gw is 132.6 I don't have a strategy per se - trying to eat around 1400 calories and do some kind of exercise, walking, running, biking... I'm not into strength training. I tried but couldn't stick with it - just not my thing. |

I know your pain - losing the last few is really hard. I posted earlier about losing in big chunks - maybe your body is waiting and will suddenly "let go" of a big chunk of weight. That seems to be what my body does. I wish I had some suggestions, but all I can say is I agree that 3lbs can be important! Happy Anniversary! |

Nope, and I'm not going to! I'm down almost 15 lbs since January and have every Saturday as cheat day... I start counting again on Sunday, usually aiming for less than usual. |

If you're hospitalised for dehydration, I can't imagine your diet was all that healthy... what have you been eating? What are your stats? |

I just read your journal, and it sounds like you have an eating disorder - you mention wanting to see your bones and spine... Your weight is actually pretty low right now, around 100lb right? You may stop losing because there isn't anything to lose. |

but id really love to lose fat and love myself more You need to love yourself no matter what. If you love yourself only based on how much you weigh, that is the type of person you will attract. We've all been there, but you need to trust us. Find other things about yourself to focus on, like your sense of humour, or special abilities... |

The OP is a teenager, so 1200 is not sufficient. You will screw up your metabolism long term if you go too low. |

One thing - are you putting the weight down on the floor each time, or holding on to it and just lowering? LOVE the step idea. |

My favourite part of that commercial is when her boobs shrink and she says, "Now we're both unhappy." If you search recipes for "honey nut tilapia" or something like that you'll find it. It's easy - brush the tilapia with a little olive oil and coat it in crushed honey roasted peanuts. Bake. Eat. Rub stomach in gesture of enjoyment. Share special moment with husband. |

I did the same thing, but I needed to focus on eating more on the days I worked out. Isn't it awesome? As for dinners, here's what my husband and I do - we agreed to try one new recipe each week. You can find a lot on-line, or in cooking magazines when you're waiting to pay for your healthy groceries... We also do one soup night every week where we make homemade soup (night before weigh in - a light meal) which has resulted in new recipes. Another thing I tried for a while was buying one thing each week that I had never tried before - it could be a vegetable, a fruit, a meat if it isn't too expensive. You DON'T have to eat only chicken & salads. This week we had: Honey Nut Crusted Tilapia with rice and brussel sprouts (recipe on this site); pasta and homemade sauce; ham steak with asparagus and mashed squash; Jane's Chicken Breast Nuggets with yam fries and broccoflower; tomorrow is Red Pepper Soup. |

| Weight Loss | Not eating below BMR and still losing weight? | Mar 27 2008 23:08 (UTC) |

The calculators on this site are NOT RMR or BMR calculators. They include your BMR and an allowance for activity. If the site says you burn 1600 at sedentary, then that includes your BMR and calories for being sedentary, which is on top of BMR - BMR is what you burn to exist, not to shower, type, walk, scratch, etc. If you have calculated it to be 1388, then that means that you shouldn't eat under 1388 calories. If you burn 1600 at sedentary, then that gives you 212 calories deficit before exercise. You shouldn't go below your BMR, so you'd have to add exercise to burn more calories. |

Eating back is a controversial idea - I don't eat back exercise calories. You may have to eat more on exercise days to keep your deficit from being too big, but you don't have to eat back everything you burn. I disagree with the net calorie theory. I calculated your BMR and guessed your age to be 35 - your BMR is 1602, which means you should eat at least that much. Once you figure out your activity level, and how much you're burning by really living, I would subtract 500 from that, providing you don't go under 1600. If it does, then you need to add exercise instead of eating less. Does that make sense? |

I'm pretty sure 1200 isn't enough for you. There are some BMR calculators posted in threads here - use the search function to find them. You shouldn't eat less than your BMR. That's your Basal Metabolic Rate, or what you burn just existing. I'm only 5'5" and 142.6, and mine is 1421, so I'm sure yours is at least 1500. |

I am really impressed with the answers on this thread - I must admit I feel much better. A couple of things: 1) I TOTALLY understand the thing with the "pink dumbells" and the stickied article. I agree that 3000 reps at 1lb won't help. I may have gotten sensitive about it because at MY gym, the pink ones are 10 lbs and that's what I use right now... 2) I actually do challenge myself to lift more when I can. I started going the machines and wasn't challenged, moved to floor exercises, then got some workouts (supersets & compound exercises) from this site. I work with 10 or 15 lb weights now, and I do work to increase the weight. I really try to work with a weight I can only lift for the reps. It's a little intimidating to go over to the co-ed part of the gym to do weights because the guys there are a bit scary, and the women's side doesn't have a squat machine. Maybe I just have to suck it up and go over there. There's a cable machine there, too. 3) I have no problem with women lifting heavy, and I absolutely agree with the benefits. I do my weights at least twice a week, three if I can. I'm not afraid of gaining bulk or anything. 4) There have been a lot of encouraging comments here, and I appreciate it. |

I've lost weight several times successfully, and my doctor told me that the medication I've been taking for 8 years would make it hard for me to lose weight. It never has, but that's always on my mind when I hit a rough spot.

I don't understand how pilates and ball are cardio? You're doing resistance training using your body weight and targeting different muscle groups, and my heart rate is certainly not at a cardio level. Using the ball with weights is supposed to strengthen your core. |
