I'm in the same boat with only having about 20 pounds left, but I don't think it is possible to lose that much by Christmas.... My goal is 7 pounds by Christmas and even that is pushing it since there is only 5-6 weeks until then....good luck, though!!

Fitness First 5K question Jun 12 2009
18:25 (UTC)

i ran my 1st 5K two weeks ago and I was almost dead last!!  It took me 37 minutes.  I was so embarassed!  I did it with an injured foot, though so i think that slowed me down some.  I have since been to the Doctor and I can start running again today.  So now I am definitely going to work on improving that CRAPPY time and can't wait until there is another race so I can beat myself! ha ha

How about a pasta salad?  Make it with whole wheat pasta, lots of fresh veggies and light Italian dressing.  I bet it will be so good, they won't even realize it's HEALTHY!! ha ha

I would add sitting down...if am walking i'm ok, i don't feel too fat...but the fact that whenever i sit down I need to adjust my pants and bring them a bit up so my love-handles and stomach rolls of fat don't hang over my jeans is a minor annoyance

 Totally agree with this!!!!

Health & Support Quit smoking on June 1 for good. Jun 04 2009

Maybe I took the easy way out, but I used Chantix to quit.  There are some crappy side effects, but it works really well.  I used it before and quit for about 5 months and then started again.  I don't think I was ready, I guess.  Anyway, this time I haven't smoked in a week and a half and I think about it once in a while, but it goes away fast.  Plus, like someone else said, I started running and I was wheezing like a fool and it was embarrassing, so I think not smoking will make a huge difference in my stamina and endurance.  Plus, my face isn't breaking out as much either.

Good luck to all of you!!

It feels good to be a non-smoker!

Wow!  It seems like some of you don't eat alot for the amount of calories and some of you manage to eat TONS for the amount of calories!!

Here is my plan for today:

B: 1 egg and 1 white, fried with 2 slices of turkey bacon on 2 slices of low-cal wheat bread (191 cal)

L: a small slice of homemade veggie lasagna and about 3oz of chicken breast (400 cal)

S: large banana (110 cal) 1 cup frosted shredded wheat (183 cal), small cappucino (84 cals)

D: 2oz (dry) wheat pasta, 3/4c prego sauce (will probably throw in some spinach), and 2 oz of ground venison w/ a salad and light dressing (545 cal)

Total: 1513 (my goal is 1500/day)

Yesterday, all i did was eat and I was still hungry!

B: 1 egg, 2 slices turkey bacon, 1 slice low-cal wheat (140)

S: 1/2 banana (the other half was all rotten once I peeled it :() (50 cals) and a cappucino

L: small slice of veggie lasagna and 2 oz of london broil (~400 cals)

S: 1 package of sunsweet prunes (60 cals) 1 cup of shredded wheat (183)

D: Parmesan Crusted Tilapia (230 cals in 4 oz) 1 c brown rice, mixed veggies (210 cals)

S: 1c corn flakes w/ 1/2c skim milk (150 cals)

Total: 1507

I find that I have to eat ALOT of protein at breakfast if I want to stay full until lunch, but I usually throw in a snack before lunch to hold me over.  I eat b'fast at 6am and don't eat lunch until noon.  Yesterday, with only 1 egg I was starving before lunch, even after my half a rotten banana, ha ha!  But today with the added egg white I didn't even need my snack.

Any other ideas for a high protein b'fast besides eggs and bacon.....it's getting pretty old....

Fitness Pump class? Apr 22 2009

My gym has "pump" classes and they are usually, steppump of cyclepump and it's pretty fun.  You do some cardio, but mix some weights in to get a really well rounded workout.  I like them.

OK, thanks! I did the PB thing yesterday with a banana.  It was good, I'll have to try it with apples.  The problem with nuts is that I LOVE them, and I can't only eat a few....without accidentally eating the whole can, totally by mistake :).....ha ha

How about some frozen fish?  I got some parmesan crusted tilapia from Sam's club.  The pieces are huge and they're only 230 calories each and they are really good and cook in the oven in like 20 mins.  Then add some wild or brown rice and a steamed veggie or salad and you've got a complete, yummy meal.  And it's a quick and tasty way to get your weekly Omega 3's!!

Or try some salmon burgers topped with homemade coleslaw on a whole wheat bun!  Add some sweet potato fries and a veggie.

Is the gazelle worth it?

personally, I don't really feel like I get much of a workout on it.  I don't really get winded and I don't usually sweat at all.  Maybe I'm wierd, but it doesn't even feel like it's as hard as walking briskly.

This activity level thing confuses me, too.  So given the info that sngbrdchls77 posted, if she changed the activity level to moderate, would she also log her workouts as activity log?  I am in a similar situation, and I have mine set as sedentary and then I just log all the exercise separately.  Same thing as setting it to moderate, or not?

I just went to the website that was posted and it said I would burn over 500 calories in one hour on the gazelle??????  I don't even burn that much in one hour of jogging/running!  In my opinion, the gazelle is MUCH easier than running.  I think that website is misleading, at least for that particular activity.  I will check out some others.

Thanks, guys.  Your suggestions are great!  I think I will go for some oatmeal and maybe some canadian bacon next time.  I know it's only one day per week, but it's EVERY week so I don't want to be totally careless with the calories, but I don't want to have to give up father-daughter time either!!
