Thanks so much Vixen! I learned quite a bit during this challenge!

I wasn't able to participate in the last 2 weeks - i was on vacation in the woods - no way to track my fats.  I did avoid the trans fats as best I could though. (Mom was cooking so I only had partial control!) I did put back on 3 pounds during my vaction, but I have lost 2 of those pounds already!

I lost 11 pounds during the challenge! (This includes being put on a new medication in early February, which is well known for causing weight GAIN!)

Just as a side note, I was put on a new anti-depressant the first of February.  I have since found out that it is KNOWN for causing people to GAIN weght!  Of course my Dr. didn't tell me this at the time!  I still have managed to LOOSE 24.7 pounds in that time (15 weeks)!

I know this challenge has most definitely helped in that! Thank you so much again, Vixen!!!! Laughing

Last December, I had to get a Cortisone injection in my left knee. I had to get the injections in BOTH knees yesterday. OUCH!!! Cortisone use is also know for causing weight gain, so I'll just have to be extra careful.  Especially since my ability to exercise is severely limited right now! Cry

Interestingly enough, based on my normal diet, my fat grams usually come to about 65 per day, the UofM calculator said 64 for me.  Looks like I was doing it right already! Of course, I wasn't really tracking what KIND of fat I have been eating, so that will be the new challenge for me!

I have started frying (in Pam) my chopped veggies (onions, mushrooms, gr pepers, & zucchini), adding a little 2% cheese, fajita seasoning (just a little due to the sodium) and grilling my quesadilla on my Presto Pizza Oven.  YUM!!!

I've also added 1 serving of low sodium v8 juice most days.

I lost a lot of weight when I first went on Wel-butrin several years ago.  Of course I was working 15 hour days M-F plus 6hrs both Sat&Sun and eating very little at the time! (Just too tired to eat!) When my work schedule slowed down, I slowly gained back a lot of what I lost.

My Dr. added Zoloft to my daily Wel-butrin about 6 weeks ago.  My weight loss was VERY slow since I started on it, but it I am still dropping about a pound a week (down from 2-3).  I don't really know if it is the Zoloft, or just my body hitting a plateau 2 months into my new lifestyle!

I work out 5-7 days a week now & my sleeping is getting much better.  Good luck to you both!

I have also been using the pool, but I RUN (okay jog) laps, not swimming.  The tonning has been awesome.

I have bad knees and running on the treadmill for just 10-15 min will have me limping for 2 days!  I can go 30-45 min in the pool without irritating my knees!

I had lost 20 #'s before I saw any change in my size, then it was like totally overnight that my body shrunk!  I did it again with the next 15 pounds.  I lost it, then my weight plateaued, but my body shrunk!!

LOVE THAT POOL!

This challenge turned out to be harder for me.  I tried something new - running on the treadmill and totally screwed up my knees!  I had to take a cpl days off. :(

I did enjoy a cpl of the new things I tried.  My favorite is a body pump class.  I am totally addicted! I am doing them several times a week now!  I'll drive to the other side of town to take one!

I'm not a big veggie fan, so this will be another challenge for me.  The water is not a problem, but 5 veg/frt a day will be tough!

The calories got me too.  Of course, I have been really good about my calories - until this 2 week period! Argh.

I'm at my parents house this weekend - so wish me luck! LOL!

I am definitely trying to continue & build on each week's challenges.  This is truly an AWESOME plan Bvixen!  Even though I seem to plateau the first week of each challenge, by the end of the second week, my weight is dropping!

Wk1&2 = 3.2  Wk3&4 = 2.8 Wk5&6 = 3.2  Total for 6wks = 9.2 pounds lost!!!

SWSarah - you are totally rocking it out! Hope everyone else had good results from the challenge too!

I went camping this weekend with my parents and didn't even try to worry about my calories!  It was just too complicated!

The water is part of my norn, so that's been good, except 1 day.  Keeping within my calories hasn't been a problem in the past, but I haven't been very good about my exercise this last week, so my cals have been lower - hard to do!

Friday I finally broke below the 220 mark - 219.4! (Of course after the weekendd, I've bounced back up a cpl, but I know it will come back off!)

I've been asked that a few times myself over the years.  People can be so ignorant!

(The last time was when I was ooing over someone else's baby.  She asked me when I was due.  I simply said, "unfortunately, that's not baby fat! I'm just fat."  She was extremely embaressed and appologized profusely, but it does hurt.)

On the days that I am feeling really good about my weight loss (34 pounds now!), I still have to remind myself that strangers don't see me as someone who has lost that much weight - just someone who needs to loose a lot of weight (still). My friends, family, and co-workers are commenting about what an awesome job I'm doing! I just keep that in mind & keep on keeping on!

Well, I lived through it!  My first 10K come and gone.

If anyone wants to read about my experience, check out http://www.runinrich.com/index.php/monument10 k/comments/susans-10k-story/

I totally amazed myself!  I expected to complete the 6.2 MILES in just under 2 hours.  My official time was 1:36:32!!!!  For the first time since I was like 12, I actually ran, well parts of the 10K anyway!  I NEVER dreamed I could have done it!  Honestly, I wasn't even sure I would finish!

What a challange the sodium was!!! I am proud to say that I made the goal 13/14 days!  I also lost another 2.8 pounds!  That's a total of 6 pounds in the last 4 weeks!  31.5 pounds since Dec. 7, 2007!!!

This challenge is going to be a bit strange for me.  The water I am already doing now.  My goal is 1/2 my body weight in ounces - which is 111 ounces right now!  I don't always make that, but usually end up around 80 ounces.

What is going to throw me off for this challenge is that I change my calorie goal daily based on my current BMR (weight)+Activities.  I guess I could set my calorie goal to be a minimum of an 800 calorie deficit daily.  Will this be acceptable Vixen?

Another thing that throws me off is that I have to load up on carbs & protein tonight & tomorrow - I'm walking/jogging a 10K in the morning! (Wish me luck!) That's 6.2 miles!!!!! I expect to finish it in just under 2 hours, but that's 2 hours of continuously moving!!!  I decided to not even try to track calories today or tomorrow, so I guess I start 4 points in the hole! :(

Anyway, wish me luck tomorrow guys!

Hi all!

Sorry I've been MIA for a few days! I just got home from my Yoga class.  I am soooooooooo relaxed - and I still have to plan my meals for tomorrow!

Upcomming Events?  How about a 10K on Saturday!!!! ARGH!  To make matters even worse, I have to leave home by 7:05am!!!

My weight has been on a rollercoaster this week - gotta love that TOTM - NOT!

Anyway, I was just sitting here drinking my post-Yoga shake & thought I'd check in!

UPDATE:  I went 3 miles last Saturday in my parent's neighborhood. (I went home for the weekend.)  There neighborhood has waaaaaay more hills than the 10k will have and I still did the 3 miles in lesss than 1 hour!  I also wasn't even sore AT ALL afterwards - or the next day!

I know I'll be able to do this now!  Of course, it's just 1 week away so ....

BTW: I've lost over 30 pounds now in 3.5 months!!

Hi all!

It's been a rough week for me. I've managed to stay under the 2,400 most days, but I keep coming REALLY close!

I actually found some "No Salt Added" canned corn! It's hard work, but for me planning is the total key!  I plan what activities/exercise I will do and then build my meals around my AMR for the day to have my 800-1,000 calorie deficit.  On the days with my harder workouts (like tonight), when I am eating 2,100 calories it is even harder!

We were celebrating one of my co-worker's birthday and got Moe's takeout.  I was able to still make my sodium goal today!  2,100 calories including fast food Mexican & I made the goal!!! (I planned out yesterday what I would order!)  I did eat my organic low-sodium chips, salsa, & low-fat sour cream so I could control those calories & mg sodium.

My mother had the surgery.  She went through EXTENSIVE pre-op testing.  Everything from a cardiologist to a sleep study!

It is NOT a quick fix and is extremely dangerous!  I was 253 pounds and decided that I didn't want to go through all that.  Thank God, I have now lost over 30 pounds and am still going!

(BTW: She had 13 pounds of excess skin removed from her stomache! EWH! Don't even start me on the "drains" she had to wear & measure outputs - UGH!)

I can only answer #2 -

I carry my weight evenly spread over my body as an "Hourglass". (Of couse, at this point my body holds more than 1 hour's worth of sand!) Therefore, I didn't see a reduction in my cup size until I lost about 30 pounds (D to C)!

Congrats all!

Okay - Easter weekend with the parents....

I can't belive it, my mom was actually supportive of my eating - no extra candies, sensible meals for all 3 of us.  My dad & I walked together Saturday morning - I went 3 MILES in just under 1 hr! (He only did 1.5 miles - his usual!)

I couldn't weigh while I was there, but - this morning I was down to 221.6!!!!!!!!!!!! I lost 4.4 pounds in the last 7 days!!!! (I was 253 on December 7, 2007 so that's 13.4 pounds total weight loss!!!!)  I also can finally where size 16's pants (down from TIGHT 20's)!!

I'm thinking now that I shouldn't have a problem reaching my goal of being under 200 by July 4th!

I personally am not on the "Slim Fast Diet".

I use 1-2 shakes during the day for my first breakfast and an afternoon snack.  I eat around 6 "meals/snacks) a day - most 200-300 calories.  Due to my metabolic type, I need %30 fat, 40% carbs, 30% protein.  I also exercise 5 times a week 1hr+. I have now lost 19 pounds since the begining of February.

The "SlimFast" diet includes "real" food also - all the calories are not from the shakes anymore. The plan used to be (*almost*) that way, but it has changed in the last few years!

I use the shakes now to supplement my diet.  As I stated in an earlier post, when I get closer closer to my goal weight I will be more concerned specifically where my calories actually come from.  Right now I am more concerned with how many calories I get (in the %'s I mentioned above!)

Awesome Job y'all! I too lost - 3.2 pounds!!!  It sucks - 1 day was only 24 grams!!! I did average 35 grams for all 14 days!

1 hint for the sodium, the Kashi Cinnamon Harvest Cereal that I told y'all about for the 5 grams of fiber is SODIUM FREE!

(This will probably be the hardest challenge for me.  I eat a lot of prepackaged foods & cheese.  The 2%&fat free cheeses still tend to be higher in sodium. Cry)

I am going to my parents for Easter weekend.  Wish me luck in my perseverance!

The thing to remember is that -3,500 won't ALWAYS result in an instant loss of a pound.

I've been tracking my calories in & out now since mid-January.  Due to my age/height/weight, I have been eating 1,800-2,300 calories each day. My overall weight loss is pretty close to the 3.500=1 ratio, but NOT each weekly weight loss.

It takes time for our bodies to understand what is going on.  I had lost 19 pounds without a change in dress size.  I hit 20 #'s down and, literraly, overnight my body "shrunk" to my new size.

I know we look for definite and instantaneous results, (myself included!) but remember this is for life!  It will come! :)

Hi Ladies!

You all are so inspiring!! Keep at it! I have now lost 27 1/2  pounds since the 1st week of December!  I haven't quite lost a "full" dress size yet, but .... does anyone have a large belt I can borrow for a while? Wink

I just bought 4 really nice pairs of jeans for $30 (craigslist. com).  3 of them I will be totally into in 5-10 more #'s.  The 4th pair are a size smaller, so they'll be waiting for me when I get there!

For our "middle" sizes, I suggest getting good quality/shape used/consignment clothes so I don't spend a lot!
