Thanks amy, I decided to just leave it out because it has 0 calories and 0 nutritional value. Was frustrated as well because I couldnt find low fat ricotta cheese and low fat cream cheese on the data base that match the values of the products I bought. data base values where higher. Tissa I use stevia the same ways you mentioned, and I use it for desserts. |

So here's an update: since starting I've lost 8 pounds as of yesterday. wow does it feel good considering how I felt at the start. It's a small amount compared to the total I want to lose, yes I know. But still I started and little by little, pound by pound, I am getting there! Through these 8 pounds I've had my highs and lows, my cravings and impulses, jumping on the elliptical when I much rather sit on the couch...but you know all in all, it hasnt been that hard. I think a big part of that is because of all the help I've been getting from you all. It's just a matter of staying the course, even when it gets a bit scary and weiry. Those times are just fleeting and so worth passing through to the other side. I have alot more energy now and the couch isn't nearly as seductive to me as it used to be "The journey of a thousand miles begins with one single step." How's everyone else doing? |

Thanks for your responses, I can't remember but I know it was completely vegan since I made everything from scratch, except the bread, which is vegan, I'll have to check that too. Hey dragon, sorry to hear that going raw is soo expensive, I've heard amazing things about it though. Just one question, do you feel satisfied? Is it cold where you live, it's -28 celcius on days this cold I really want hot food....how's it working out for you? |

Hiya, thanks for the great advice Molly. You know I'm a chef by trade, so you'd think this wouldnt be so hard for me....I thought I was doing great, cutting out alot of fats from recipes and replacing them with other things....just not cutting out quite enough apparently. I 'll take it up another notch by reducing the amount of sauteeing I do and I'm getting a steamer instead. About dairy, I occasionally eat organic yogurt, cheese and eggs, but I find that my body does much better without them. Ironically, my nails and hair get nicer when I cut them out. Huh? Ya I know, strange but true. I"ve come to believe that some people can remain somewhat healthy even though they eat animals, dairy and eggs, while others do not. Personally, I get bloated, constipated, occassionally develop skin rashes, dry hair and brittle nails. It's not something new, it's been this way my whole life. How did I figure out that it was animal products? I used to have eczema my whole life, then years ago I did a vegetable juice detox (made in my home with nothing but organic vegetables) for 2 days, with plenty of lemon water inbetween. Then to break my fast I ate steamed rice with kale and swiss chard. I ate like that for a few days.. Then I went back to eating normal except that I cut out: wheat, all meat and animal products, and all sugars, other than those from fruits and vegetables. What happened? I lost alot of weight, I WAS FREE OF ECZEMA for the first time in my life, my hair, nails and skin where gorgeous and I was so much more peaceful and happy. Well, fast forward years later, sugar, wheat and some dairy have found there way back into my life, but no meat and STILL ECZEMA FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! Oh btw, what and sugar bloat me too, but there's only so much I'm willing to give up ya know!

| Vegetarian | Any Non Soy Vegans? | Jan 17 2008 18:24 (UTC) |

Hey Kat, using organic is totally better than using genetically modified frankein-food. I know some people who use soy often and dont seem to have problems but it's only been about 2 years or so for them. I also know people who've been using soy products for over 20 years and they've developed some mega problems. I 'm not a doctor or scientist but I have eyes and know what I see. We're meant to eat a variety of things and it seems once we start relying on limited selections we develop intolerances i.e wheat. Another thing is it's best to eat foods as nature offers them, in their natural form because in their whole form they usually offer more nutrition, fiber and enzymes for digestion.

I love soy products, but they don't love me. I get bloated and it hurts, so it never got to the point of losing my hair.... ...speaking of which... someone on this thread said that her sister's hair dresser said vegan hair is really weak?? Has she seen women from East India!?!?!?!? Many of them are vegan Hindus, and have the most amazing silky shiney thick long long long black hair you could imagine. They eat alot of beans and lentils in addition to rice and all sorts of fruits and vegetables.

Yikes!!!! I figured out how to get my mid month report, and it's scaryyyyyyyy. Reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllll scary. I had no idea how much fat I was eating. Really it's just olive oil mainly for my salads, and sunflower seed oil for light pan frying, oh and peanut butter, I'm vegetarian. and gosh, well it just doesnt look good! holy canoli, am almost to embarrassed to put it up ...well here goes Fat - 40.1% (800 grams) any suggestions I would like to point out that I start on Jan 3, it took me about a week to get the calories below 1700. And the past few days I've got my fiber up to 30 g daily and sodium below 1600 mg daily. I also work out daily and burn about 400 calories there. so my main concern is not so much the amount that I'm eating but my ratios.

Hiya Molly! thanks for sharing. I have a question, how does one compile a mid-month report? Did you take averages yourself or is this just another one of those awesome services that calorie count offers? As far as progress goes, I'm excited, I've lost 6lbs, and with only a few bumbs on the way. and each bump while thankfully has been short lived, on the bright side, offers something new to learn. I also jump on the elliptical for an average of 30 mins 6days a week. I just have it infront of my TV so when I'm watching some of my fav shows I just jump on and before I know it 30mins are up. Other wise I doubt I 'd even do 10 mins a week LOL. Well am going to get ready for work in a bit. It's good to hear from you. p.s. I really like how you post what you eat daily and howmany calories in your journal. It's been very helpful for me, especially cause you keep it interesting and wholesome.

thank you for responding, that makes sense, and I suspected as much. But what threw me off is the lower number (large white number) in my burn meter is almost 2000. and we aren't supposed to have more than 1000 calorie deficit right? |

Molly am going to take my measurements today! You're right it's going to be awesome to really appreciate in everyway how well I'm doing. That could even be one of the reasons I let myself regain the weight in the past. Because I didn't really savour the process or successes in the past, it's like I wasn't really present for it...kinda hard to explain.....almost like a sleep walk. This time I'm awake, dancing and singing thanks to all the support and good advice/tips from you all. |

| Foods | Olive Oil? | Jan 12 2008 16:43 (UTC) |

Hey Aaron, I'm actually a chef so if you run the recipe by me I can help you come up with something delicious and healthy. At first guess, I'd say use only a few tsp of olive oil, but do use olive oil it's so good for your body and has no chemicals in it, and use either a) a vegetable or chicken broth or B) a white wine reduction to make the body of your sauce. p.s my grandparents are from the mediterranean so I was raised on fish and seafood, it's my specialty Hope this helps. Sounds like getting tested is a great idea. You may want to see a holistic practitioner such as a homeopath or naturopath as they are often light years ahead of more popular medicine, especially when it comes to food intolerances and how they affect us. Good luck , keep us posted!

Howdy, I'm vegetarian too, have been for years. Most of the time I'm vegan, I eat the occassional bit of organic cheese or free-run eggs now and then. Now comes the gassy part! I've started having some serious gas recently too. Quite painful (bloating)...and I know what it is. It started when I bought tofurkey sausages last week. I dont know what it is in them that's causing this but it's killing me. So though these tofurkey sausages are yummy I'm chucking them in the waste bin. Have you been eating anything like that? Like vegan pepperoni etc...? |
