I have read that eggs are the best thing to eat for breakfast and there is a correlation between eggs for breakfast and weight loss. This has been consistent with my experience. I enjoy eggs at breakfast, they are pretty easy to prepare (can even be boiled ahead so they are ready to go!) Add a whole wheat english muffin, pita or piece of bread and you have a good balance of protein, fat and carbs. Its also pretty easy to vary scrambled eggs by adding lowfat chese, peppers, onions, tomatoes, beans.... lots of ways to avoid getting bored. |

I have had an EXTREMELY frustrating road trying to lose weight with my PCOS. I am on the low GI/ high protein diet and I work out 4-5 days a week for 45 minutes to an hour, but I literally do not lose any weight. I try to stay motivated by remembering that exercise is important for more than just weight loss! |

At this website: http://www.nutritiondata.com/tools/nutrient-s earch You can search for foods based on what they are highest or lowest in. For example of you put "foods highest in iron" it will return a whole list of foods high in iron. You can also filter that list by food category. I agree with you, its always better to get your nutrients from a food than it is from a supplement. Good luck! |

As a Christian I wouldn't find it offensive, I would be flattered by your good intentions. No offense but since I think your whole religion is false there's nothing to be threatened by in your spellwork, know what I mean? |

It comes refrigerated and in a shelf-stable variety. Usually you see it in a little plastic tub with a clear-plastic top.

They are very acidic, which can be hard on your teeth and upsets digestion for some people. Never brush your teeth immediately after eating acidic foods. They are healthy and delicious though, I eat them very regularly. DO make sure you have variety in your diet, of course. |

Its processed soybeans.
You can usually get it somewhere in the produce section of a regular store, or else in the ethnic section. You can eat it raw, put it in shakes, scramble it with eggs.... there are about a thousand ways to cook it.
Here are some great beginner tips and recipe ideas: http://www.savvyvegetarian.com/vegetarian-rec ipes/basic-tofu.php |

We have a family recipe called "finger lickin' tofu"...
Basically you slice the tofu, dredge it in scrambled egg and then dredge it in equal parts nutritional yeast and cornmeal. After all that pan fry it with just a little olive oil. Its really good with ketchup. We ate it all the time as kids. I used it as the first introduction for my non-tofu-initiated husband.
Works best with extra-firm. |

They only make it from sugar so they can say its "made from sugar". They COULD make it from any variety of things. It is a chlorinated sugar molecule and there has been very little long-term research into the safety.
I like agave nectar... tastes delicious and has a low glycemic response. I put a little in my black tea along with some lemon juice.
I also like a lot of herbal teas, usually I don't put anything in those. |

You should talk to an OB/GYN and maybe have a hormone level test. I had all sorts of problems with my period (missing it for several months in a row, having it too often, having it for a long time... etc etc) and I turned out to have PCOS which is quite manageable when you know you have it but if left untreated can lead to type 2 diabetes and infertility.

The snobbery addressed towards starbucks is a little absurd. Its a very responsible company that has taken many steps to decrease environmental impact while also providing a good living to coffee bean farmers and good benefits to employees. Maybe you don't like the coffee, thats a matter of taste, but don't be so obnoxious about it. I do use my own mug when I stop at Starbucks (which is far from every day!) I am also ALWAYS happy to frequent a locally-owned coffee house when there is one, and assuming the coffee tastes good to me. Those are my values and I try to share them with the people around me, but I hope I do it in a kind way. Storming into an internet thread and acting all condescending isn't going to get you far with most people. |

| Foods | Chicken and testosterone (women, please respond!) | Apr 28 2008 17:00 (UTC) |

Even a woman's body has testosterone as part of the normal hormones in the blood stream. To say that something stimulates testosterone is not to say that it necessarily does you harm.
Some women (like me) do have trouble with excess testosterone, but I've never been told it is because of chicken. More likely it is genetic. I take a blood test annually to monitor my hormone levels and I was normal last time, in spite of the fact that I consume chicken several times a week. |

I would like to avoid protein powder, etc if I can. I prefer to get my nutrients from naturally-occurring foods.
I do agree with the idea of avoiding simple carbs (although I do have a love affair with potatoes that has been hard to walk away from) and I think I can definitely be more aware of combining a protein with my carbs. |

It definitely isn't good for you. That being said I know just what you mean.
Condensed skim milk is worth trying as a substitute.
When I was facing the same problem I cut down to ONE cup of coffee followed by several cups of black tea (which I drink with lemon instead of cream.) Now I am down to just the tea and I save the coffee (with cream!) for a special treat. |
