Instead of pumping possibly harmful drugs into your system, you can try a natural version to help you out.

I would recomend 2 things:
Garcinia :  This is a flower extract, you take 4 a day before meals and it helps supress your appetite, but not in a harmful way

Ephedra: Natural extract which helps speed up your metabilism. Works even better with caffeine (so coffee or guryana)

Do all you can to avoid pharmaceutical chemicals, plus, these are cheaper.

At the moment, I am taking Garcinia and it does help.

If your talking bout Guarana then no i wouldnt recommend that at all, i would better off stick to the phentermine. there is lack of studies in it and it has massive amount of caffenine in it so recommending it with coffee isnt the smartest thing to do. Maybe your body can tolerate it bout not everyones.

Does Guarana Cause Side Effects? Guarana contains a large amount of caffeine (which is actually the active ingredient in guarana). Therefore, guarana can cause any of the side effects that are usually associated with caffeine consumption.   Common Guarana Side Effects Since guarana has not been adequately studied in clinical trials, all information on side effects comes from what is known about caffeine. Based on this information, common guarana side effects may include:
  • Insomnia
  • Nervousness
  • Restlessness
  • Indigestion or heartburn
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Shakiness (tremor) or jitteriness
  • Increased urination
  • Headaches
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus).
Guarana Side Effects to Report Some side effects with guarana, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider right away. These include but are not limited to:
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • A rapid heart rate (tachycardia)
  • Rapid breathing or difficulty breathing
  • Seizures
  • Anxiety or agitation
  • An irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • Feelings of a rapidly or forcefully beating heart (known as heart palpitations)
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as unexplained rash, hives, itching, unexplained swelling, wheezing, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Hey all I was diagnosed with PCOS when i was 18 but did not see an  until i was 22.  I am on birth control and a  MIRACLE drug called spironolactone.  I used to shave twice a day and had pubic hair almost to my knees!  I now shave maybe once a week and my skin is gorgeous.  I do have trouble losing weight still, but it's important to stay on a low glycemic index diet.  PCOS causes insulin resistance, which can lead to diabetes, but it also makes our bodies inefficient at digesting carbohydrates (the ones in bread, not the ones in fruits and veggies).  I've read that diets like the Zone diet are best for us PCOSers.  I have never been on metformin, but it sounds terrible!  If you are not seeing an endocrinologist, you MUST.  OB/Gyns and general practitioners for the most part are NOT up on the research in PCOS.  If you live near Chicago, I can recommend my doc.  There is also a PCOS study at Northwestern University that I think will put you on a PCOS-geared diet with a nutritionist.  I can give you more info, and I don't think you need to live near Chicago for it.

Anyway, I have just started eating FAR less bready carbs and replacing with fruits and veggies and gluten free breads and pastas (like sprouted wheated breads and pastas).  I lost 1 lb in the last two days.  I'll be happy to keep you updated if it's working, but I have a tendency to 'cave'.  Anyway, I'd love to keep chatting, it's always good to have friends with PCOS!

Michelle

P.S. - I have been trying to apply for individual health insurance and was denied TWICE because of PCOS!

as for the endocrinologist vs ob/gyn i say  it all depends bc yes ive been to 2 ob gyns(the 1st one was just horrible) but my newone is amazing!! he actually specializes in these types of disorders of the female reproductive system, and ive just cmoe to find out that one of my h.s friends  also had pcos, had the same doctor as me and had the surgery to remove the cyst and correct her ovulation and what not and it worked, shes been regular for over  a year. Yes surgery should be the last result and trust me ive tried every damn medication, diet so im going for surgery this month and hopefully all goes well. itll be wedge resection/drilling of cysts, all done laprascopic, with harmonic scalpel. ill keep everyone updated,as for metformin,i have not gotten sick on it,maybe bcmy doc started me on a VERY low dose then worked it up. Pple got to really look around for an amazing gyn or endocrinologist

hello  lisa  im Julie.  Im taking bc and metformin for my PCOS . I just started the metformin, my doc has me on half a pill(from 500mg) so its 250 mg , once a day for the forst week  and keep adding half a pill each meal time every week till it comes up to 3 500 mg pills a day, so far im  on the 2nd week, and i  been doing good with it no stomach problems though i did feel lightheaded from the sugar drop the first few days but not stomach probs etc well not yet(crosses fingers). try eating it with food,as in a meal, but like watch what you eat with it like a hearty chicken salad. and i also heard the extended release was supposed to be better side effect wise. Right now i weigh 165 and i want to go down to 125, i went to 145 but my pcos caused me to gain like 20lbs in a month  :(

my doc just put me on metformin for my pcos, i been taking it for about a week though  but he told me about all the side effects and i was aware that metformin was a diabetic medication so i knew all the side effects, so he recommended that i  take a half a pill once a day (from 500mg) for the first week,  2nd week half a pill for breakfast, half pill for lunch, then so on  till it builds up to 3 full pills of 500mg a day, i  havent felt any side effects except fir the first few days a lil lightheaded from the drop in blood sugars, but i  learded to eat a nice meal before i take them  , ill keep you updated on how it gos with the increase of doses over time.

Several years ago I made the mistake of going on Depo Provera (injection). I didn't even want to go on it but I was with a controlling bf at the time who refused to use protection and I didn't trust myself to remember to take an oral pill. At the time I was a size 8 (UK) and 32B bra size. Without any changes to my diet (I hardly ate much to be honest) and bearing in mind i had a very physical job working with horses I shot up to about a size 14 and 34DD in  a very short space of time, which looks horrendous on my 5ft1 small framed body. My periods also stopped completely and even though I didn't have a repeat injection (the injections last for 3 months) it was over a year before my periods returned. I know several people who have been on the injection and all but one had the same thing happen to them. Not only the weight gain but depression, paranoia, agrophobia etc. One person even attacked her bf with a knife in a fit of extreme anger and paranoia which is something she had never done before! I suffer with depression as it is but at the time I was self harming and incredibly depressed, but that may have been due to the situation I was in with my relationship at the time. One thing I do know is I'll never touch Depo Provera again in my life.

yea those shots r the worse, even my doctor says he would never recomend them to anyone he doesnt even recomend bc unless absolutly needed for hormonal imbalance or other medical reasons or if the person absolutly wants em and knows the dangers of it which encludes blodd clots an etc and no u dont have to smoke and be on bc to get a blood clot i just read a news story of a healthy 19 year old works out, non smoker getting a blood clot and heart attack due to her bc. Which was yasmin btw, i read on a health forum/holistic med forum that yasmin was one of the worst pills, iuno

I bet the never release stored fat was because as you lose weight you still have the same number of fat cells....They just get smaller....and ummmm hcg dosent start in peoples urine.....

I agree with alyssandra she actually right you  will still have the same amount of fat cells even after you loose weight you just have to stick to a  diet even after you loose your goal amount, maybe not a diet as strict but to  one nonoetheless otherwise your fat cells will expand get full and multiply making you gain hence making you gain weight once u stop dieting etc.

Uhm, no. This sounds like a branch of the "Ice Water Myth", which says ice water has negative calories because of the calories your body spends heating it up. Studies were done and there was some truth found in it.. if you drink something like 8 glasses of ice water per day, you can burn an extra 70 calories.

The practical use of this information isn't much. Most people do not even drink 8 glasses of liquid per day, because most of the water we get is from food. Second, chugging ice cold water is very uncomfortable. So keeping up the habit for any length of time would be... eh. Not very comfortable either.

AGREED,LOL

It is a psycological disorder more then a physical disorder. Most people who have anorexia have a very unhappy life and they feel the need to control something. The one thing they can control is their weight.

yes but the psycological disorder becoms a physical problems, organs shutdown u eventually die not matter what unless its stop and the person can become a healthy eater again. theyll get muscle spasms, and once ur heart spasms(hearts a muscle as well)ur done unless ur rushed to the hospital/possibly saved. thats the way i see it in an overall summary of anorexia nervosa.

Yes it does make you gain weight. Some people are diffrent but majority of the women will gain weight bc of the hormone combonation. Also causes alot of other problems such as blood clots, increases the chances of getting breast cancer.(Significant increases of breast cancer risk due to abortion and to use of contraceptive hormones have been clearly defined in research studies as early as 1981.) ive been on several hormones on the past year due to ahmennorhea or hower u spell it ortho triclyen lo,yasmin, junel fe,and estrogen/progesterone its self and gained weight and used to work out and was really hard for me to loose when on it. I did my research and its can be really dangerous, who wants to worry more bout getting blood clots and it traveling to the lungs/heart? I got off it did my diet and exercise and now ive lost 15lbs easy. As long as u get ur period 4x a year ur good so not a good excuse to take b.c. Iuno my opinion, just research it thouroly(im a bad speller) lol
